Xiaomi looking to go public?
On Thursday 12th of February, Xiaomi will be headed to San Francisco to host a press conference. Everyone is wondering why the sudden activity, especially when it’s held in the U.S. For now, we don’t know what the press conference is all about, as they haven’t spoke about it yet. Many are speculating that Xiaomi may be taking its first step in entering the U.S. mobile phone market. However, sticking with their plans, they assured that the press conference is not about their expansion plan. Instead, the press conference will be an event for Xiaomi to try to understand their potential consumer base.
Another source revealed that Xiaomi is actually considering to go public – either to go on Hong Kong’s or U.S.’s stock exchange, whichever has highest value valuation. We think it’s the latter since it will be held in San Francisco, but it could be something else.
Previously, CEO of Xiaomi Lei Jun has said in 2010 that it will take them at least five years to be publicly listed. The timing seems right as the time frame is ending, and now that they are planning on regional expansions and increasing their line up of products, they are looking for additional investments.
In this press conference, Lin Bin, the company’s president, and Hugo Barra, the global vice president, will be present. Barra was a key player in the development of Android. If anything, he could lead the maneuver into U.S. market.
We will report more on the press conference as the event comes. In the mean time, what do you think the press conference will be about? Let us know in the comments below!
