Whatsapp, the infamous cross platform messenger app, has hit a bump in the road. As of yesterday, the app has been pulled from the Windows Phone Store following alleged “technical difficulties”. It appears that the “technical difficulties” with the Whatsapp are focused particularly on devices running Windows 8.1 developer preview. Users who downloaded Whatsapp for this operating system have reported issues such as delayed notifications and a no compatibility message upon running the app. The fact that the app has been pulled suggests that those issues are just the tip of the iceberg.
According to Windows Phone Central, the Whatsapp team has confirmed that the app was indeed taken down to address some technical issues, though not specifically stating what those issues were. They did state that they are working closely with Microsoft to rectify them but no estimated re-release date was mentioned.
For the benefit of Windows Phone users, we hope that Whatsapp will be restored in to the Windows Phone Store sooner rather than later.
