vivo has been busy with their devices lately with their recent announcement of their S1 and the teasing of their next version of the vivo NEX. However, the company is keeping its eye on their mid-range V series with the new vivo V17 Pro. Initially launched in India on 20 September, the new mid-range smartphone from vivo comes with the company’s first AI Quad Camera setup and a dual selfie camera.
The new vivo V17 Pro runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 mobile platform which comes with AI-centric enhancements. The octacore (8-core) processor is complemented with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This is expandable with a microSD card slot with up to an additional 256GB of memory.
The display on the vivo V17 Pro is a 6.44-inch, Full HD+ Super AMOLED panel. The display is a bezel-less Ultra FullView display which spans edge to edge. According to vivo it has a 2.5D glass but there is no mention of Gorilla Glass or any other form of durability rating for the display. The company is touting the V17 Pro as the device with uncompromising display with 1.85mm on the sides and 3.51mm on the top and bottom. The screen is touted to be able to cover 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.
6 Cameras for the Perfect Shot
The hallmark feature of the V17 Pro is the quad camera main setup as well as the dual selfie camera setup. The quad camera setup comes with a 48-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and 0.8µmn pixel size. Complementing this main sensor is an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor with an f/.2.2 aperture and 1.12µm pixel size; a 13-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. PDAF; and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The hardware of the main camera setup is complement by a slew of software features including a macro mode, night mode and wide angle optimisations for the “perfect shot”.
On the front, the company is touting their 32-megapixel dual sensor. The front camera setup is a main 32-megapixel sensor paired with an 8-megapixel depth sensor. The dual camera setup is hidden behind the 6.44-inch screen and will be raised through a motorised mechanism. This mechanism has protective antifall features which will retract the selfie camera when the phone is detected to be in free fall.
Not Forgetting the Essentials with a change to USB type C (finally!)
The vivo V17 Pro comes with a in display, optical fingerprint sensor. It also comes with support for WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Also on board is Bluetooth 5.0 with support for Bluetooth LE and A2DP. It also has A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and BDS. There’s no mention of NFC support from the company.
All of this is powered by a 4,100mAh battery. The vivo V17 Pro supports 9V, 2A dual engine fast charging.
Pricing and Available
The vivo V17 Pro is already available in stores and is available in Crystal White and Night Black. It will be retailing for MYR1,699.
