Verizon Wireless according to reports, has settled a 2002 class action lawsuit out of court. The company has agreed to pay up to USD$ 64 million to consumers who has alleged that they were charged for calls that should have been free. The settlement was filed last week and is pending approval.
Virezon Wireless was accused of billing customers making in-network calls on its Family SharePlan even though it was advertised that those calls were free from 2002 to 2006. The company has never admitted to such wrong and maybe has settled out of court to ensure the damages it has to pay doesn’t go up to the expected amount of USD$156 million.
Once given the green light, the company will pay the full amount to consumers but USD$19.26 million will be going to attorneys involved in the case.
