Getting a medical consult when you’re out globe trotting can be quite a hassle – especially when your in a country where it’s hard to find someone who speaks the same language. However, Tune Protect is looking to help travelers out by allowing direct access to doctors over the internet through web chat, video and phone calls.
The DoctorOnCall service was founded in May 2016 and is Malaysia’s first ever telehealth provider. The service allows users to have access to medical professionals and doctors through a video call. During this call, the doctor is able to provide a general diagnosis as well as prescription for medication which can help alleviate symptoms. However, in more severe cases, users will be advised to seek more immediate emergency medical attention at a Hospital or Clinic in person. Travellers are able to access the DoctorOnCall service from 8am to midnight, Malaysian time.
The partnership between Tune Protect and DoctorOnCall is applicable to the Air Asia Tune Protect plan which travellers can subscribe to when purchasing their Air Asia flight tickets. Keep in mind that in some countries users will still need to get a licensed medical professional to confirm the diagnosis before a prescription can be dispensed. In these cases, DoctorOnCall and its affiliates will refer the user to a local clinic or hospital. Aside from these cases, the service will be able to diagnose and arrange for prescriptions to be delivered to the user.
