Tesla updates software with iPhone Support for ignition and unlock
The owners of Tesla cars have been waiting patiently for a software update known as the OS 6.0 for their cars and it seems like the wait is finally over. According to Electrek, Version 6 of this OS will bring quite a number of brand new features for Model S cars from Tesla. Some of the upgrades include a new Calendar app for in-car use, and big improvements to the Maps/Navigation software.
The best feature however, will be limited to those using iPhones. Users of iPhones will be able to unlock and start their car via their headsets. This would be extremely handy on those days you lost your car keys. This is similar to what we see in Chevy’s remote start feature. How will this be possible? Well, all you have to do is download the Tesla App and you can access this feature.
In more exciting news, Tesla is in talks to take full advantage of Apple’s Touch ID Sensor but this hasn’t been confirmed.
With this upgrade, we can see Tesla’s commitment to future and current customers. Just last week, owners of the Model S were promised warranty extensions for drive trains for infinite miles up to eight years. However, this major alteration to the in car software system after purchase is not something standard operating procedure condones. It is as expected, a pricey aftermarket upgrade.
