China Daily series Youth Power invites Gen Zers to bring cultural relics to life

BEIJING, July 31, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — To encourage Gen Zers to take a closer look at the history of China and use their wisdom to bring cultural relics to life, the second episode of season two of the China Daily series Youth Power, “Chinese Civilization: Generation A meets Generation Z”, was broadcast online on July 30.

In the episode, Gen Zers from China, France and the United States gathered in Henan Museum in Henan province, central China, to explore treasures handed down by generations past, drawing from them lessons for the contemporary world.

China’s civilization is one of the four greatest civilizations and the only surviving one,” said AlexandreGuery, a French Gen Zer who lives in China. “It gave so many technologies to the world, including gunpowder, printing and paper making.”

One item in the museum that left him full of wonder was an 8,000-year-old bone flute.

The Gen Zers who gathered in the museum said they believed that in an age of globalization it is important for young people to learn about history and the origins of one’s cultures. They discussed the increasing appreciation of Chinese traditional culture, the pros and cons of turning ancient relics into cultural and creative products, and the reasons for the vitality of Chinese civilization. They also discussed whether cultural relics lost abroad should be returned to China.

“In the 1920s the Tianlongshan Grottoes suffered a large excavation,” said Ruan Kexin, a PhD candidate in the School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University. “More than 240 statues were stolen. Almost all the heads and even the whole bodies of statues were taken away and transported abroad. It was also a very great loss for the cultural heritage of our country.”
However, after nearly a century overseas the statues were finally returned to China, he said.

“Allowing more people from other countries to see our cultural relics and feel our culture can help the Chinese culture to go global and strengthen its international influence. Instead of the unregulated movement of artifacts, this can be achieved through the regulated exchange of cultural relics.”

Jennifer Courtney Holstein, 26, from the United States, said it was sad that cultural relics are missing from China.

“In the case of the Old Summer Palace in Beijing, a lot of the things were ‘lost’ or stolen or looted. You can’t really imagine what it used to be like, because so much of it was destroyed or taken away.”

Zhong Yutong, the episode host, said: “We now know what bad things have happened before and we should do everything we can to ensure they don’t happen again.”

He encouraged Gen Zers to express their ideas on breathing new life into historic relics, with the aim of ensuring that these memories become part of present-day thinking.

Through stories, music and dance, Gen Zers breathed life into the relics in Henan Museum, retelling stories of the past. One of the invitees, Wang Licheng, 17, created a song related to the museum’s cultural relics, after he went into various stories and explored the culture.

“I was inspired by the relics themselves and the accompanying information on the walls,” Wang said. “I wasn’t sure what everything meant. There were some expressions and characters I couldn’t even understand, so I almost felt as though I wasn’t fully Chinese.”

Chen Shihua, a 17 year-old who is about to start her college life at Peking University, performed a dance from the show “Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting” that reinterprets the renowned artistic work “A Panorama of Mountains and Rivers”.

“This performance showcased the aesthetic value and classical beauty of the Song Dynasty,” Chen said. “The classical beauty of traditional China has a very important place in today’s world. And its beauty needs to be cherished.”

Zhang Yun, a graduate of the Communication University of China in Beijing and the author of the illustrated series “Guardian”, talked about the inspiration of her creation, which presents the traditional culture of the Miao nationality in the form of paintings.

“This is a unique form of artistic expression that reflects the spiritual beliefs and philosophies of all ethnic groups in ancient China.”

Zhang said she would like to further explore all kinds of traditional culture in China and to present it to young people from all over the world, hoping that through it they can better understand and appreciate Chinese culture.

Youth Power, organized by China Daily, aims to build a global platform for communication and exchange focusing on the interests and ideas of Generation Z. The program comes in the form of interviews, forums and speeches, with topics related to anything of current interest in the world.

CNN’s ‘Going Green’ meets the next generation of environmentalists leading the charge against climate change

Special coverage airs July 18-22, with a 30-minute program airing July 23

HONG KONG, July 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Protecting our planet often means starting small – but every action has the potential to spark a global transformation. On the upcoming episode of ‘Going Green’, CNN meets the next generation of young environmentalists who are sprinting into action and bringing their innovations to life to protect every corner of the earth.

CNN’s ‘Going Green’ meets the next generation of environmentalists leading the charge against climate change
CNN’s ‘Going Green’ meets the next generation of environmentalists leading the charge against climate change

CNN hears from Melati Wijsen from Bali, Indonesia, who started a youth campaign to make the island plastic bag free when she was just 12 years old. After several years, and a conversation with the governor, she succeeded – and a law was passed banning single use plastics. Now, Wijsen has launched YOUTHTOPIA, a platform where young people can learn from each other about how to create change. YOUTHTOPIA now runs 150 free youth workshops and programs for young changemakers focusing on tackling the climate crisis through education.

We also meet Fionn Ferreira, a 21-year-old student from Ireland on a mission to remove microplastics from our oceans. Ferreira is building an ingenious way to collect these particles by using a magnetic mixture to extract plastics from liquid. He won the Google Science Fair in 2019 with his invention, as well as a financial boost to jumpstart a pilot program in a wastewater facility in Ohio. Since then, Ferreira’s work has taken him all the way to the Arctic to continue his research, and most recently to the World Economic Forum where he helped bring together young changemakers to share their perspectives on the global agenda.

The programme then travels to Nairobi, Kenya, to meet a teenager hoping to use football to inspire young people to create a greener environment. Lesein Mutunkei is the founder of Trees 4 Goals, an initiative which began when Mutunkei decided he would mark every goal he scored playing football by planting a tree. What began as a solo endeavour has kicked off across Kenya – bringing a culture of conservation to a wider team of players. Mutunkei also sows with intent: he only plants indigenous trees to maintain ecosystem balance, and has been working with a team of other young environmentalists to help revive the country’s forests.

It’s then off to the Amazon rainforest to hear from Helena Gualinga, an Indigenous rights and climate justice advocate who hails from the Sarayaku community in Ecuador. For decades Amazonian women in Ecuador have been empowered and outspoken about protecting the rainforest. Gualinga is amplifying that message and spreading her tribe’s worldview at climate change conferences across the globe, giving first-hand accounts of life in the Amazon and the impact that deforestation is having on the rainforest.

CNN also travels to the land of the First Nations in Canada to meet Autumn Peltier, an Indigenous rights and water activist. Peltier shares how she became interested in water protection after a trip to a nearby Indigenous community whose water sources were polluted, making the tap water undrinkable. She has spent the past eight years speaking out about the importance of clean water to international organizations like the UN and the World Economic Forum. Peltier also explains why she believes the fight for clean water is in the hands of young people.

2022 Visionox Technology Innovation Launch Event

BANGKOK, May 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — According to Global One Belt One Road TV Station, On May 5, 2022, Visionox, a leading innovative display enterprise in China, held its 2022 Technology Innovation Launch Event online to release its innovative technological achievements in five sectors. With the theme of “Create a Brandnew and Visionary Future”, there are 20 innovative technological achievements in five sectors being released (e.g. EnV ALT low-frequency LTPS, InV tripod® tripod-shaped pixel arrangement, HLEMS technology, COE POL-less technology, and truly bezel-less face ID module). This release highlights Visionox’s great technological innovation capabilities. The further commercialization of these innovations will be destined to accelerate the iteration and upgrade of intelligent terminals.

Led by Visionox’s President Dr. Zhang Deqiang, there were five technical experts, namely Cai Minghan, Shan Qi, Zhang Wei, Xiao Yiming and Cao Xuan, delivering speeches in five dimensions: “Versatile for the Full World”, “Vibrant for the Strong Performance”, “Vigorous for the Integrated Trend”, “Vintage for the Smart Display”, and “Vast for the Infinite World”.

Dr. Zhang Deqiang explained Visionox’s medium- and long-term development strategies (2022-2031): “In the next five years, Visionox will focus on the core technologies of innovative display, expand our production to all related fields, and rank among Top 3 in worldwide OLED panel shipments.” He also noted that through ten years of hard work, Visionox would realize the synchronized development of the industry ecosystem and become a global leader in the emerging display industry. In terms of strategy implementation, Visionox has formulated “One strength & Two new roads” development strategies for the next five years, namely consolidating the success in small-sized display applications, expanding the application of medium-sized display and opening up a new large-sized display market. For the next decade, Visionox has put forward the “2345” development framework (i.e. 2 business lines: OLED and Micro-LED; 3 core technologies: optics and materials, semiconductor devices and system integration; 4 innovation bases in the Yangtze River Delta, BeijingTianjinHebei, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and ChengduChongqing; 5 application fields: intelligent terminal, automotive interaction, smart home, industrial control and healthcare, and innovation-driven business).

After his speech, the five technical experts explained the five sectors, covering nearly 20 innovative technological achievements, which were elaborated in terms of technical principle, innovation effectiveness, application scenario, user experience, etc.

In terms of “Versatile for the Full World”, Visionox has narrowed 1.4mm bezel down to 1.0mm by applying new circuit design and FIAA technology. In addition, Visionox has realized slimmer bezel, more invisible crease and smaller bend radius through foldable form optimization, stacking module thinning, module materials optimization, and other technologies.

In terms of “Vibrant for the Strong Performance”, Visionox has reduced power consumption by taking three major methods, namely, low-frequency LTPS technology, HLEMS technology and COE POL-less technology, from two aspects of drive and light extraction efficiency improvement.

Meanwhile, Visionox’s original upgraded “dual tripod” pixel arrangement is now able to present finer, sharper and more balanced images. With the promotion and application of new technologies, next-generation smartphones are expected to be substantially improved in portability, screen-to-body ratio, optical performance, screen power consumption and under-display camera.

In terms of “Vigorous for the Integrated Trend”, Visionox launched the world’s first under-display camera solution InV see® in 2020. Now, Visionox has released its latest solutions – InV see® Bezel-less solution of 3D face recognition and PIN optical fingerprint recognition solution, enabling smartphone recognition system to go further on the path of achieving higher information security, convenience of use and compatibility of flexible display.

In terms of “Vintage for the Smart Display”, Visionox has developed tandem OLED technology and aging compensation technology, and also carried out in-depth research on basic technologies such as oxide TFT backplane and Demura. Based on the improvement of the fundamental functions, AMOLEDs are used in medium-sized applications. Visionox presents a flexible under-screen camera solution for laptops which uses ultra-thin bezel technology, enabling the screen-to-body ratio to increase to 91% from 85% which has been the choice of most traditional laptops. In the field of medium-sized automotive applications, Visionox has cooperated with some automobile brands to launch customized OLED automotive displays, such as dashboard, digital rearview, central control and transparent A-pillar.

The part of “Vast for the Infinite World” was especially eye-catching. Visionox is actively “expanding new medium-sized display applications” and “opening up a new large-sized display market”. Visionox started its Micro-LED technology accumulation in 2017. At present, Visionox has built a Micro-LED Pilot Line, and successfully launched samples of 1.84-inch Micro-LED wearable retina displays and 12.7-inch glass-based Micro-LED tiling displays.

Finally, Dr. Zhang Deqiang said that Visionox would accelerate the commercialization of its innovative technologies and products in the future to create more immersive usage scenarios and provide end users with rich experience. At the present stage, Visionox’s goal is to meet market demand for customized, diversified and dynamic solutions, and deliver more value and better integrated solutions to downstream customers, so as to improve end users’ experience and bring the new future forward.

Cao Yong, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out that at present, China’s electronic information industry has ushered in an unprecedented and new landscape. China’s display industry has become a major force in the global display industry, and the new display industry represented by OLED has shown strong growth momentum and huge market potential. In recent years, China has made new progress in new displays. The innovation force in emerging displays, led by enterprises like Visionox, has been exploring and making breakthroughs in AMOLEDs. They have launched several new technologies globally, formulated a number of international, national and industrial standards, filed more than 10,000 patents, and made innovations in collaboration with upstream and downstream enterprises of the industry chain, opening up new prospects.

Historically, May is the peak month for the release of new display innovations around the world every year. Visionox’s launch event of its innovative technological achievements at the beginning of May has shown a high degree of confidence in technology and innovation strength.

Focusing on OLED technology for 21 years, Visionox has a leading position in this field, and its innovations are often characterized as “industrial windvane”. Competition for R&D innovation in new displays is expected to grow fiercer. With the advent of the era of flexible displays, intelligent terminals will iterate and update faster.

The Chinese solar terms embody Chinese people’s traditional recognition of natural rhythms, astronomical calendar, folk customs and farming. On November 30, 2016, China’s 24 Solar Terms were officially included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. At the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the creative "24 Solar Terms countdown" drew worldwide attention.

Minor Cold and Major Cold mark the end of a year. Paintings Snow on Mount Emei and Thatched Gate Covered by Snow are used to interpret the two solar terms. In these two paintings, against the majestic mountains covered by snow, pedestrians brave the heavy snow, domestic dogs wag their heads and tails, and donkeys waddle forward, adding great vitality to the snow-capped mountains.

To illustrate Beginning of Spring, Rain Water and Awakening of Insects, which mark the beginning of a new year, three paintings are selected: Fair Lady Exploring Plum Blossoms, Spring in the Mountains and Lakes, and A Thatched House in the Bamboo Forest. They together form a scroll of early spring: In the Beginning of Spring, girls get outside to enjoy plum blossoms. In the Rain Water, travelers take a boat and drift on a turquoise river. In the Awakening of Insects, crickets singing can be heard at night. Frame after frame, the animation depicts bamboo shoots coming out of the soil, insects stretching and jumping, and so on—everything is reviving to embrace spring.

All these paintings and poems embody the Chinese people’s graceful taste and rich emotions.
