Australia’s Open!: Booking.com’s 7 Predictions for the Triumphant Return of Travel in 2022

SYDNEY, Nov. 9, 2021 — In its most extensive travel predictions research to date, Booking.com reveals how a renewed sense of optimism is fueling a hunger to make 2022 the year to make the most of the unpredictability and get back to fully experiencing the world. Trends for the year include:

  1. Vitamin Vacay – More so than daily exercise or mindful meditation, getting away on holiday will become THE form of self-care in 2022, with over three-quarters of people (82%) affirming that travel helps their mental and emotional wellbeing more than other forms of rest and relaxation.

  2. Resetting the Out Of (Home) Office – When the pandemic hit, homes across the globe became our offices too, and the novelty of working remotely was realized. However, in 2022 we’ll see a significant rise in people wanting to take back control in a bid to firmly re-establish a healthy work-life balance as holiday time itself will be strictly work-free for three quarters of travelers (76%) in 2022.

  3. All the First-Time Feels – Remember what it was like to board a plane for the very first time? Or even just to check into a hotel? After feeling ‘stuck’ for so long, rather than rushing through the journey, travellers will be relishing every moment, from fine-tuning the playlist for the rental car to browsing the delicacies duty free has to offer, with a fifth (21%) most looking forward to the pure excitement and anticipation as the journey begins.

Green Flight Initiative Aired in North Bund International Aviation Forum

SHANGHAI, Nov. 5, 2021 — On November 4, the first North Bund International Aviation Forum, with the theme on the sustainable development of the global aviation industry, was held in China’s economic hub Shanghai, injecting new aviation elements and driving power into the city’s development into an international shipping center.

Jointly organized by China Eastern Air Holding Company Limited and Shanghai Airport Authority, this event was a parallel forum of the North Bund Forum.

Officials from related government agencies such as the National Development and Reform Commission, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Shanghai Municipal Government, as well as about 150 guests from domestic and foreign civil aviation enterprises, industry associations, and colleges attended the forum.

They discussed the new model of sustainable development and international cooperation in the industry around issues such as carbon emission reduction in civil aviation and construction of world-class aviation hubs, and released a number of major achievements and important initiatives in the industry.

At the forum, Zhang Wei, vice mayor of Shanghai, said that this year is the year when the Shanghai International Shipping Center is basically in shape. Shanghai will adhere to building a world-class aviation hub with leading quality, accelerate the improvement of airport ground facilities, and enhance the coverage and accessibility of airline network.

"The city will improve the legal system for green development and accelerate the green development of the aviation industry, while joint efforts will be made to promote coordination of the world-class airport group in the Yangtze River Delta in terms of functional positioning, planning and construction, operation management and ground transportation," Zhang added.

Willie Walsh, director general of IATA, said that to give an indication of the scale of the pandemic disruption, losses of the airline industry were significantly reduced in 2021. With a 20 per cent share of the global commercial aviation market, China’s domestic market is increasingly important. At present, IATA is actively dealing with the impact of the epidemic, and the industry remains confident about the future.

Liu Shaoyong, chairman of China Eastern Air Holding Company Limited, said that the company will give full play to the features of the aviation industry with a long chain, strong driving effect and great influence radiation. With the new mode of digital transformation and intelligent upgrade, China Eastern will accelerate the building of smart aviation, inclusive aviation and airport cities. A new aviation economic ecology will take shape by developing "aviation + tourism", "aviation + finance", "aviation + exhibition" and the integration of aviation with other services.

Qin Yun, chairman of Shanghai Airport Authority, said the company will strengthen cooperation with airports and airlines around the world to build a green and ecological airport and a digital airport.

During the session of topic sharing, Li Yangmin, general manager of China Eastern Air Holding Company Limited, made a special sharing on the situation of aviation hubs in world-class cities, the development process of hubs and serving Shanghai’s development into a world-class city. More than 10 guests delivered keynote speeches on cooperation and win-win of international civil aviation in the field of carbon emission reduction during the pandemic and construction and upgrading of world-class aviation hubs.

In the dialogue session, the speakers focused on the opportunities and challenges of reshaping the global industrial chain and supply chain, and discussed the development ideas from the perspectives of logistics industry development, aviation logistics, airport cargo terminal business and supply chain solutions.

At this forum, senior executives of 20 enterprises in the aviation sector released an initiative on global aviation industry carbon reduction cooperation via video.

The North Bund International Aviation Forum will be held in Shanghai every year as a parallel forum of the North Bund Forum, which will help the latter to become the "Davos" of the international shipping industry, better promote the Chinese shipping brands to the world and share Shanghai’s perspectives. China Eastern will also host the 78th IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the World Air Transport Summit in Shanghai in June 2022.

Xinhua Silk Road: Annual report on image of Suzhou city released to better tell Suzhou stories during 2021 AI Expo Thu.

BEIJING, Sept. 18, 2021 — To better tell stories of Suzhou, an east China-located city known for its classic Chinese gardens, an annual report on image of Suzhou city in global cyberspace (2020-2021) came to the public during the 2021 Global AI Product & Application Expo (2021 AI Expo) on Thursday.

The report was released by the Jiangsu Center of Xinhua-run China Economic Information Service (CEIS) on the expo’s future of smart media-themed sub-forum. It probes into the characteristics, effectiveness and shortcomings of Suzhou’s city image building via internet channels in the past year.

Chen Xixi, head of Jiangsu Center of CEIS releases the annual report on Thursday.
Chen Xixi, head of Jiangsu Center of CEIS releases the annual report on Thursday.

Suzhou, as one of the major cities in the Yangtze River Delta, boasts a unique city image thanks to its world-class traditional culture and rich aquatic resources, complete and diversified manufacturing industry chain, and advantages in piloting preferential and opening-up policies by national level local economic platforms, according to the report.

Different from other Chinese cities, Suzhou appeared in reports by global media with four typical characteristics.

For instance, the city was usually reported along with such hot words as the "digital city", "ancient Chinese gardens", and words related to urban construction, culture, and tourism of Suzhou.

Moreover, Suzhou mainly appeared in reports by global mainstream media, which are mostly neutral in stance, in topics regarding its ecological environment, science and technology progresses, and development of emerging industries.

Furthermore, the city caught more attention from traditional media such as magazines, news agencies and commercial news websites and new media as compared with social media where reports about Suzhou are relatively scarce.

YouTube turned out a more interactive and influential platform for the city to communicate with the world as it is easy for influencer campaigns to produce widely-focused livestreaming shows about Suzhou, and the audiovisual language and topics concerned are easy to understand and closer to daily life.

All of these resulted from Suzhou’s continuous efforts in city image building in recent years, which highlighted its international communication with more cultural factors and established an all-round and multidimentional communication mode.

To better tell Suzhou stories, the report suggests the city deepening cognition of its city image and exploring more value of its connotation.

CellPoint Digital to disrupt payments in new sectors following outstanding success with Airlines

Payment orchestration leader will boost digital revenues in retail, online gaming, online education and entertainment & media.

LONDON, June 9, 2021 — CellPoint Digital, a fintech leader in payment orchestration for travel, today announces it is now offering its market leading platform to new markets, including retail, online gaming, online education, and entertainment & media to boost digital revenues through an optimised payment service.

CellPoint Digital will capitalise on increased demand for payment orchestration from these verticals by partnering with rapidly expanding brands to deliver better, more frictionless payment experiences for customers through its Velocity Payment Orchestration Platform. The platform is uniquely suited to address the changing needs of modern merchants, allowing for dynamic transaction routing to reduce costs and minimise rejection rates, and offering access to a global payment eco-system of about 500 payment options, including acquirers, Payment Service Providers and payment methods through a single integration point. As retail, online gaming and education or content streaming markets continue to develop, CellPoint Digital aims to export these efficiencies to these new sectors. On average, this means merchants can expect 10% increased digital revenue, 20% decreased payment costs and 75% faster time to market to roll-out a new payment method or feature.

The move comes after several years of expansion and innovation in the travel sector and a series of successes in 2020, despite the pandemic, which saw CellPoint Digital achieve a record volume of Apple Pay transactions for Southwest Airlines and deliver its unique Payment Orchestration Platform to Cebu Pacific. CellPoint Digital was also recently chosen by the Latin American travel brand, Avianca – the world’s oldest commercial airline – to manage its entire Payment Orchestration Platform – a project that is being referred to as the most ambitious of its kind in the industry to date.

As more customers embrace digital payments, sectors such as retail, online gaming and entertainment will face a challenge in having to meet the growing demands from consumers for better, more flexible payment options. Figures from finder, for example, revealed that Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services have grown 39% year on year.

CellPoint Digital CEO, Kristian Gjerding is excited to bring their experience in the airline sector to help merchants in new verticals: "At its heart, our mission is to make payments easier for merchants and their customers. From cross-border transactions to rolling out proliferating alternative payment methods, we know from experience that international brands like global airlines face critical payment challenges to grow their digital profits. Our experience working with international airlines, probably the most complex retailers, means that we know how to help merchants quickly and affordably expand into new markets while optimising all their payments and streamlining their payment operations. This know-how will be invaluable as brands in growing sectors such as retail, subscription entertainment and online gaming look to expand into new international markets.

"Simultaneously, we look forward to supporting the rebound of the travel and hospitality sectors – those that have been hardest hit by the pandemic – as they will emerge from global lockdown with the roll-out of the vaccination. As the travel markets are reopening, CellPoint Digital’s leading payment orchestration platform will be on hand to facilitate the adaptation to new travel routes and ultimately best serve their customers in their selected destinations."

CGTN: Zhaojin Town, the red soil in northwest China

BEIJING, May 28, 2021Zhaojin Town in Tongchuan of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province was a place of glorious red history, and now has developed fast by carrying on the red spirit.

A view of Zhaojin Town, Tongchuan City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province. /Government of Tongchuan City
A view of Zhaojin Town, Tongchuan City, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. /Government of Tongchuan City

In the early 1930s, Liu Zhidan, Xie Zichang, Xi Zhongxun and other older generation revolutionists established the 26th Troop of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and the Shaanxi-Gansu Border Region revolutionary base with Zhaojin Town as the center.

Pass down the red gene

In May 2018, Wang Tianjiao, then a third-grader from Beiliang Red Army Primary School, wrote a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping on behalf of her classmates, telling him about her experience in learning revolutionary history and the development of the school.

Before long, Xi replied to the students in a letter, encouraging them to pass down the red gene from generation to generation. Xi wrote that he hoped the students cherished the time and studied hard with a grateful heart, and grow to be useful to the country, the people and the society in the future.

Beiliang Red Army Primary School is a trace of the revolutionary history in the town. It was established in 1955 at the old revolutionary site – the site of the Chenjiapo Meeting.

In June 2000, Xi’s mother Qi Xin visited the school. Seeing its shabby classrooms and antiquated facilities, she mobilized her whole family to donate 150,000 yuan ($18,116) to relocate and rebuild the school.

Since then, with the support of the government and different sectors of society, the school has continued to improve its conditions with newly-built academic and dormitory buildings, professional classrooms and a playground with synthetic-rubber tracks.

Fast development benefits local people

Back in 2015, when Xi Jinping visited Zhaojin Town, he stressed strengthening the study of the history of revolutionary bases, summing up historical experience, and better carrying forward the revolutionary spirit and fine working style.

The town has developed fast in recent years. Expressways, resident relocation settlement communities, convenience stores, stadiums and other infrastructure have been built. The once remote and backward place has developed into a town famous for red tourism.

"The per capita income in 2015 was 8,848 yuan. In 2020, the per capita income has risen to 15,235 yuan," said Bai Wei, the Party branch secretary of Zhaojin Town. "The town was poor and backward. The young men had gone away, and the girls would not marry here. But in the past two years, 16 college students have come back."

"Zhaojin Town is so good. Come back here and work in this red place, there is a sense of honor and gain," Bai said.

Revolutionary X-ray Technology From Australia to Transform American Airport Security

SeaTac chosen for Micro-X Inc’s USA headquarters
Official Opening at 10 am PDT, Friday May 28
855 S 192nd Street, Suite B600, Seattle, WA 98148

With:

  • Congressman Adam Smith, chair of the House Armed Services Committee
  • Brigadier Hugh Meggitt representing Australian Defence Staff, Embassy of Australia
  • Stephen Patterson, South Australian Minister for Trade and Investment (Pre-recorded)
  • Erin Sitterley, SeaTac Mayor

Technology featured:

  • World’s first electronic x-ray tube, using nano technology to create the most significant innovation in x-ray tubes in over 100 years
  • Rover: the first FDA approved system using Micro-X’s revolutionary x-ray technology
  • Prototype self-service baggage scanner, reimagining the future of airport security.

SEATTLE, Wash., May 28, 2021 — Australian company, Micro-X has chosen SeaTac, Washington State, as its US headquarters as it expands its capabilities to better support their rapidly growing business.

The proximity to the Airport for Micro-X’s future airline passenger self-screening development, the exceptional level of software talent in the greater Seattle Region, and the room in south King County for the company’s expansion plans all contributed to SeaTac being chosen as the ideal location.

Micro-X has reinvented how X-rays are generated. Using their patented carbon nanotube X-ray cold emitter technology, they’ve invented Rover, a mobile X-ray machine that weighs less than 220 lbs and is ruggedized for high intensity use in field hospitals and remote locations.

But the technology can do much more. It could transform airport security across America, enabling faster and more reliable X-ray baggage screening, reimagining airport checkpoints.

"Today, we’re expanding our US operations," says Peter Rowland, Micro-X Australian CEO.

"Our new SeaTac facility will be a center of excellence for imaging product development that will revolutionize medical, defense, and security x-ray imaging," says Brian Gonzales CEO of Micro-X’s rapidly expanding US operations.

"Our mobile X-ray machines are available now for use in public and military hospitals. They’re lighter, cheaper, more robust, and more precise than our competitors."

The patented invention that makes all these ideas possible is inside our 3.3 lb x-ray tube which replaces a conventional x-ray tube weighing more than 44 lbs.
