Toward the Digitalization of Energy: Huawei Launches Smart Modular Data Center 5.0

SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 6, 2020 — On October 28, 2020, at the Digital Power Summit 2020 event, Huawei launched its next generation Smart Modular Data Center 5.0.

Zhenfu Fei, President of Huawei Data Center Facility Domain, commented: "With the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), increasing demands are placed on data centers, in turn driving their advancement as the cornerstones of the intelligent digital world."

"Huawei Smart Modular Data Center 5.0 uses AI to build next level data center intelligence, making full use of our proprietary smart lithium battery — SmartLi — to implement full lithium battery backup."

Huawei Smart Modular Data Center 5.0

The solution builds a smart and green data center based on SmartLi inside, a big screen visualizing the digital twin, and AI-Robot intelligent Operations and Maintenance (O&M).

Changing the game, with SmartLi inside, now any room can be a data center. Indeed, with far lower requirements placed on net height, Huawei Modular Data Center 5.0 has no need for a traditional raised floor design. Instead, air conditioner pipes and strong- and weak-current cables are routed from the top, meaning that equipment can be accommodated in ceiling heights as low as 2.6 m, far below the 3m minimum height required for a traditional data center.

Elsewhere, the SmartLi Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) has extremely low load-bearing requirements — falling below 1000 kg/m2 for Tier III and Tier IV data centers in TIA-942 – meaning that the power supply system and Information Technology (IT) devices can be deployed in the same room, sharing the same space.

Doing away with the need for a separate power room, this high-density solution slashes the space needed for the lithium batteries by 75%, compared with lead-acid alternatives, meaning more revenue-generating IT cabinets can be deployed instead.

Finally, flexible capacity expansion becomes possible, with the Huawei Smart Modular Data Center 5.0 Solution — with SmartLi inside — offering a fully modular backup power supply. This brings into reality a truly modular system, from the power module to the battery module, where enterprises only pay for what they need now, significantly reducing Capital Expenditure (CAPEX), simply expanding when the need arises.

Simply put, the solution accommodates all budgets, dramatically reducing the size of the initial investment required.

Intelligence is visualized, making O&M more reliable, efficient, and simple.

Huawei Launches Smart Modular Data Center 5.0
Huawei Launches Smart Modular Data Center 5.0

Huawei Smart Modular Data Center 5.0 uses a 43-inch local touch screen to integrate Information & Communication Technology (ICT), AI algorithms, intelligent communications, and infrastructure. Digital twinning is implemented for physical modular data centers and intelligent i3 features — iPower, iCooling, and iManager — are also accommodated on the local smart screen:

  • iPower: Visualized data center power distribution links, key modules to systems, and predictive maintenance.
  • iCooling: Visualized cooling links and AI cooling energy efficiency optimization boost Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by 8%, to 15%.
  • iManager: Global data center visualization, diagnosis, and optimization reduce O&M costs by 35%.

In addition, facial recognition can be used to enable the access control function and log in to the management system, reinforcing security. The goal is to present intelligence, clearly and intuitively, accelerating O&M and, ultimately, bringing down costs.

Huawei’s Smart Modular Data Center 5.0 Solution marks a step forward on Huawei’s journey to promote and lead energy digitalization, building a greener and more intelligent world. Huawei Digital Power will continue to innovate and integrate ICT, AI algorithms, intelligent communications, and infrastructure to enable the automated driving of data centers, harnessing intelligence to create real-world value for customers.

East China’s Hangzhou puts on online expo to showcase global cultural and creative products

HANGZHOU, China, Nov. 6, 2020 — The 14th Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Expo was held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province in southeastern China, from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1. The expo attracted more than 4,000 cultural institutions and enterprises from more than 60 countries and regions to participate online and offline. The total number of participating brands increased by 60% compared with the previous expo. The exhibition area of overseas brands remained at 40% of the total exhibition area. During the exhibition, the main venue received more than 60,000 visitors, the two online sub-venues received more than 930 million clicks, and completed on-site transactions and project contracts worth 2.19 billion yuan.

In the past 14 years, amid new culture, new consumption and new life, the expo has not only become one of China’s four major cultural exhibition activities, but also Hangzhou’s cultural landmark and an important platform for building an international cultural and creative center.

Online expo stays open throughout the year

With the rapid development of China’s new economy, more and more consumers are using the Internet to communicate, and online shopping has become a trend. This year’s expo also features two online sub-venues, allowing citizens to visit the exhibition without leaving their homes.

As one of the online sub-venues of the expo, Dongjia App is an online shopping platform specially set up for excellent traditional craftsmen at home and abroad. According to Meng Wenbo, president of the app, more than 2,000 exhibitors at home and abroad have "transferred" their offline works to the app, presenting their works in a three-dimensional and diversified manner by means of pictures, videos and live broadcasts. Alexandre Turpault textiles from France, Knit Planet children’s clothing from the UK, Festka bikes from the Czech Republic… Visitors can find all of these global creative products on the platform, and place an order with a few clicks and have them delivered to their home.

"The expo used to be held offline in a relatively short period. With the digitalization of the event, the online venue has opened up more possibilities for people to browse, communicate and buy through mobile phones anytime and anywhere, creating a year-long 24-hour event," Meng added.

Cultural and creative products gain life as part of life

The online expo which enables easy purchase and delivery makes cultural and creative products more accessible. However, Meng believes that the more charming part of Hangzhou’s cultural industry lies in the fact that many designers’ creative works are based on integrating the essence of eastern traditional culture into the daily life of modern people.

Born in 1990, Liu Weixue is a paper umbrella designer who focuses on the innovation of umbrella surface. "Only by making innovations based on a full understanding of the technological core of the past system can traditional techniques be better protected and passed on." In order to make paper umbrella technology with new vitality, Liu is trying to develop different derivatives of paper umbrella.

Yao Yuting, who grew up in a silk workshop, is the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Hangzhou satin (a thick, smooth and shiny silk fabric made in Hangzhou).

"I hope to make Hangzhou satin closer to life. After all, Hangzhou satin has a history of thousands of years. To better inherit and develop it, more people need to know it, understand it and feel it," she said. Thanks to her efforts, the products produced by the weaving factory now combine silk with landscapes, home decorations, architecture and other elements.

An expo of insights to power industrial growth

In 2018, the expo proposed the goal of becoming an insightful event. This not only means a display of global creative products, but also deep exchanges in the global cultural industry to push cultural and creative innovation to a new level.

The expo drew hundreds of experts and scholars from well-known universities at home and abroad such as German University of Lueneburg, British Schumacher College, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University. Meanwhile, more than 100 well-known cultural and creative institutions at home and abroad such as Alibaba gathered to hold more than 20 professional activities such as an industry summit and the annual industry index release to jointly discuss the latest trends in the development of cultural industries.

After 14 years of development, the Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Expo not only gathers creative products with traditional oriental aesthetic flavor and modern life elements, but also attracts more and more overseas established cultural and creative products to enter the Chinese market and innovate local consumption patterns. Just as Hangzhou, a traditional ancient city in the south of the Yangtze River, has become a modern smart city, the expo has never failed to display new vitality and vigor.

Hytera Envisages the Future of PMR at Critical Communications World Virtual Conference

SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 6, 2020 — Hytera, a global leading Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) solution provider, participated in Critical Communications Week (CCWeek) 2020 as a Brand Leader sponsor to showcase its latest innovations and shared perspectives on the evolution of communications technologies from 2G to 5G. CCWeek, a five-day virtual exhibition and conference on Nov. 2-6, offers a new opportunity for stakeholders of the critical communications sector to network after the Critical Communications World 2020 offline event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

On the first day of the fully packed five-day conference progromme, Simon Yin, general manager assistant of Hytera Americas, shared with attendees Hytera’s insight of how the critical communications sector is to move forward in the 5G era. Hytera believes that there is no single technology capable of fixing all problems, instead it will be "2+5+N", a hybrid and convergent way of meeting a multitude of requirements.

Simon Yin, general manager assistant of Hytera Americas, shared with attendees Hytera’s insight of how the critical communications sector is to move forward in the 5G era.
Simon Yin, general manager assistant of Hytera Americas, shared with attendees Hytera’s insight of how the critical communications sector is to move forward in the 5G era.

"2" stands for 2G technologies, such as TETRA, which provides stable and reliable voice services for critical communication users. TETRA, as the most successful PMR technology, will remain as the first choice of mission critical voice services thanks to its great availability, reliability and security. Since the technology itself keeps evolving, Hytera sees TETRA as a viable technology in years leading to 4G and 5G era.

"5" stands for 5G that supports high throughput, low latency and massive connections. In 3G/4G LTE era, in order to satisfy the increasing demand of data services, there are mainly two paths available for mission critical and industrial users. One is private LTE, the other one is Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). One common choice for critical communication on broadband systems is Mission Critical Service (MCS), an open standard defined by 3GPP. When it comes to 5G, the two paths technologically merge and converge, since 5G from bottom up is designed for industries, which not only enables the telco to explore business opportunities into vertical sectors, but also empowers industry users with their private network in ways such as network slicing.

"N" stands for various applications based on different technologies. Numerous services and apps will be made available for industries by developers. Hytera believes the key is how to get the best out of each technology and converge them into an interconnected network. When multiple technologies and vendors are involved, the optimal situation for mission critical users is that they can choose freely from an open ecosystem and establish the critical communications infrastructure following an open protocol, which is important now and in the future.

"New digitally empowered business models—usership-based, services-oriented or data monetization-driven, among them—are gaining momentum across the mobility value chain," notes Vivek Vaidya, Associate Partner and Senior Vice President, Mobility Practice, Asia Pacific, Frost & Sullivan. "Start-ups are upsetting traditional value chains, creating new use cases, and fostering novel ideas about value creation."

Participants in the hard hit shared mobility segment are evaluating new business approaches. For instance, several ride hailing, e-scooters, and e-hailing companies are repurposing their offerings by riding on the boom for last mile food and grocery deliveries.

Vehicle electrification and autonomy are long-term strategies that have remained largely insulated from the impacts of the pandemic.  Automakers are continuing to develop electric vehicle/ autonomous driving (EV/AD) platforms and architectures, while pushing forward on circular economy and innovating to zero practices.

Digital automotive retail has received a massive fillip during the pandemic. "Changing customer behaviors are compelling automakers to streamline the customer journey from vehicle purchase to delivery, and promote seamless access to contactless parts/services delivery and online retail finance," says Vaidya. "Simultaneously, evolving online-offline dynamics are altering dealership and distribution models."

Advances in enabling technologies are expanding the potential of urban air mobility (UAM) applications. Cargo drones are being spotlighted as last mile delivery solutions, while passenger UAM vehicles offer promise in resolving urban congestion woes. Continued innovation and regulatory oversight will be key to boosting market prospects.

Wild Digital SEA 2020 is set to be the biggest virtual tech conference in the region

This 6th edition is reflective of a year of constant, and at times, exhaustive changes. However, we are seeing an even more vibrant tech ecosystem in Southeast Asia emerging from this pandemic. Our structure and content format might be different this time, but nothing has stopped us from gathering the region’s top internet players, entrepreneurs, founders, chief executives and investors for another phenomenal #WildDigital experience!

"Like many others, we found ourselves scrambling to adjust as our flagship conference kept getting new dates later and later into the year," said Patrick Grove, Catcha Group CEO & Co-Founder. "But, here we are. Bigger and better! We’re gearing up for what will be the biggest virtual event in the region, and hopefully break another record this year!

Right now, we are witnessing first-hand the effects of remote working, the boom of ecommerce platforms, the rise of telehealth and other tech-centric impacts on the collective community. We’re excited to bring these topics to the fore on our Main Stage."

We’re no longer limited by location, and as such, we’re able to gather even more top-tier speakers from around the region. Some of the speakers include (bit.ly/SEA20-speakers):

A platform to highlight disruptive startups

Southeast Asia has a vibrant, young and tech-savvy population, and the potential for us to become the Silicon Valley of Asia is immense! One of our main aims has always been to showcase and support the most disruptive and innovative startups in the region. We want to be the launching pad where they can pitch their billion-dollar ideas in front of leading investors, mentors, senior executives and media during our conference.

We have once again partnered exclusively with Startup World Cup to organise Startup Disruptor Arena (SDA) – a highly-anticipated live pitching session where we’ve seen some of the region’s most innovative startups battle it out. We’re gearing for a bigger, better experience – SDA will be the SEA regionals, and the winner will go on to compete at Startup World Cup in Silicon Valley next year for a Grand Investment Prize of USD1million!

Startup World Cup is helmed by Pegasus Tech Ventures, a US Silicon Valley VC, and consists of a global series of startup conferences and pitch competitions that spread across 40+ countries. More information on Startup Disruptor Arena here.

To make our online conference experience even better for our attendees, we have launched an ALL NEW #STARTUPSHOWCASE initiative as a bonus feature for participating startups! For the first time, startups may apply for complimentary virtual booths to network and promote their product directly to the C-suites and top level executives that will be in attendance! This initiative is only available with purchase of our Startup Promo package. Find out more about the #StartupShowcase initiative here.
