"Feel free to try out our application. Chinese and foreign companies can communicate on it and reach agreements online," Sebastian Valcic from Germany who works at the Jinan Innovation Zone, introduced the application designed for the 2020 Sino-German (Europe) SME Cooperation and Communication Conference.

The conference took place on Thursday in Jinan, the provincial capital, with 11 Chinese and foreign cooperation projects signed worth 10.13 billion yuan (1.54 billion U.S. dollars) in investment.

"We have always stayed bullish on China’s development," said An Yu, executive vice president Asia-Pacific of VOSS Automotive, a German company. "Thanks to China’s economic recovery policies, our business in China has grown by 40 percent this year, prompting the Asia-Pacific region revenue to become the fastest-growing revenue segment of our company."

Joachim Denzel, a project consultant with Festo, said that China’s economy keeps growing despite a gloom over other economies worldwide. He expects business in China to outgrow other areas in the world in the future.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, since 2012, China has set up nine Sino-German SME cooperation zones, giving strong support to the investment of Germany’s medium- and small-sized companies in China with policies and intellectual property protection.

"Our app is still in the testing stage, but more than 150 foreign companies have already registered, and more than half of them are German companies," said Sebastian Valcic.

Relativity Strengthens Investment in Australia’s e-Discovery and Compliance Market

Relativity hires a Managing Director for APAC, rolls out a local product update and brings Justice for Change program to Australia

MELBOURNE, Australia, Nov. 19, 2020 — Relativity, a global legal and compliance technology company, announced at Legal Innovation and Tech Fest that it is strengthening its investment in the Australian market. Relativity is growing its presence in Australia given the high demand and engagement from the region.

The Relativity community in Australia has shown more engagement than ever over the past year, including a 93% increase in attendance at user groups and nearly 40% growth in overall certifications, which is twice the global average. Additionally, RelativityOne data in Australia has more than doubled in the last year, demonstrating an increased desire for an e-discovery SaaS product.

Adding to the Team in Melbourne
Building out the team in Australia is a key element in Relativity’s continued investment in the region to provide the best support possible for customers. Relativity has hired Georgia Foster, Managing Director, APAC, to lead the organisation’s efforts in the region. Foster has more than 17 years of experience leading lead sales, operations, product and marketing teams in APAC, the U.S. and Latin America. She previously held roles at LinkedIn and Uber, bringing their products and concepts to the local market.

"I’m thrilled to join the Relativity team at a time when there’s so much growth and excitement around the product in Australia and the APAC market more broadly," said Foster. "As we continue to expand in the local market, it’s important to empower our Australian users to be successful. I look forward to working with our customers and team members to ensure we can deliver the best experience possible."

RelativityOne’s Latest Release Built with Australia in Mind
Delivering a solution that makes meeting processing and production requirements in Australia simpler is a key priority. To achieve this, Relativity introduced a preview program enabling some Australian customers to provide real-time feedback allowing for iteration on the functionality prior to its release. The latest release for RelativityOne users in Australia offers:

  • Level Numbering to eliminate the need for multiple processing platforms.
  • Improved PDF Rendering and Viewer so there’s no more importing/exporting.
  • Improved PDF Redaction Workflow to apply redactions from within RelativityOne.
  • Updated options in Relativity Desktop Client (RDC) to export rendered PDFs.

"Our goal is for e-discovery teams to have a true end-to-end e-discovery platform in RelativityOne," said Stuart Hall, Senior Manager, APAC Service Delivery at Relativity. "This is the first time that we collaborated so closely with Australian customers on a locally focused product upgrade and the approach certainly benefitted both Relativity and our customers."

Expansion of Justice for Change Program
Relativity’s new Justice for Change program is now available in Australia, the first region outside of the U.S. This global program leverages the unique capabilities of RelativityOne and its ecosystem to positively impact racial justice progress in our communities. Justice for Change first launched at Relativity Fest in September where Relativity pledged 100 terabytes of RelativityOne to remove barriers to access technology for organising, collecting and analysing data in matters related to racial injustice.

Any customers or organisations working to promote racial justice are eligible to apply for the program. And for those in Australia who are not familiar with our software, Relativity will pair them with a service provider or law firm from its network that can assist.

"We are thrilled to include the Australian community in our efforts to make inclusion, diversity and belonging an integral part of our culture," Foster added. "I look forward to seeing the difference we can make when our community comes together to create positive change."

The fourth CIIE begins taking stall reservations from exhibitors

SHANGHAI, Nov. 13, 2020 — Some exhibitors planning to attend the fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) next year started to reserve their stalls on Nov 8. This is the first time that the CIIE has offered such an option.

Five dairy companies – Fonterra, Mille, Ausnutria, Yashily and Saputo – marked their reserved booths on a map of the fourth CIIE.

Companies showcasing products at the beauty makeup section of the Consumer Goods Exhibition Area, pharmaceutical products section of the Medical Equipment & Healthcare Products Exhibition Area, and dairy products section of the Food and Agricultural Exhibition Area will receive priority when reserving their exhibition stalls, as part of new measures adopted by the fourth CIIE.

"We hope to explore a mechanism where exhibitors can choose their preferred stalls on their own starting from next year," said a worker responsible for recruiting exhibitors to the fourth CIIE.

He added that exhibitors can decide earlier to attend the expo and make preparations in advance.

The stalls at the CIIE’s Food and Agricultural Products Area have always proved to be popular among exhibitors wanting to make reservations.

The exhibition area occupied by dairy companies at the third CIIE was nearly 10,000 square meters, with six of the top eight dairy companies in the world taking part in.

The fourth CIIE’s Food and Agricultural Products Area has remained popular, with over 10 dairy companies having signed on to attend and their signed exhibition areas surpassing a total area of 5,000 square meters.

Over 120 beauty makeup and daily chemical companies have been invited to make reservations for exhibition stalls at the fourth CIIE, and many of them are currently signing agreements or making down payments.

Due to high exhibitor demand, the fourth CIIE’s beauty makeup and daily chemical product section is expected to expand to 25,000 square meters from 20,000 sq m this year.

China is the largest and most significant market for Fonterra. The CIIE has provided development opportunities for them, said Han Li, Vice-President of Fonterra Greater China, explaining why they continue to attend the expo and make reservations.

The fourth CIIE began taking applications from business exhibitors on Sept 28. It will set up six business exhibition areas: Intelligent Industry & Information Technology, Consumer Goods, Automobile, Food and Agricultural Products, Medical Equipment & Healthcare Products and Trade in Services.

Huawei’s Ken Hu: 5G Creates New Value for Industries and New Growth Opportunities

SHANGHAI, Nov. 13, 2020 — At the 11th Annual Mobile Broadband Forum today, Huawei’s Deputy Chairman Ken Hu spoke with leaders in the telecoms and digital technology sectors about the new value that 5G can bring to different industries around the globe. As 5G is poised to transform the way we live, connect, and work, the telecoms sector is deeply invested in creating more value beyond the consumer market.

"There’s no out-of-the-box approach to innovation," said Hu on the topic of accelerating 5G application in industrial settings. "We’ve got to focus on real needs in real scenarios – and build up the capabilities to meet those needs. This is a challenge. But more importantly, it’s a huge opportunity for everyone involved."

Ken Hu speaks at 2020 MBBF
Ken Hu speaks at 2020 MBBF

Global 5G rollout is progressing quickly. As a leader in this domain, China has already seen over 600,000 base stations deployed in more than 300 cities, supporting more than 160 million 5G connections across the country. 5G services in China now deliver speeds in the hundreds of Mbps, and a wide array of 5G services have already been implemented in more than 20 domestic industries, including healthcare, ports, steel, power grids, mining, and manufacturing.

"The adoption of 5G in industries has moved from technical verification to commercial deployment," Hu noted. "As of September 30, 2020, China’s three major operators have implemented over 5,000 innovative 5G projects and signed over 1,000 5G business contracts."

While expressing his full confidence in 5G’s promising future with industries, Hu noted, "There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution, because every industry has vastly different requirements." He shared four observations on the best ways to drive 5G innovation for industry applications.

First, the industry needs to identify real needs based on specific business scenarios. While many industries have shown that they are ready and willing to embrace 5G, Hu stressed the need to develop a concrete set of criteria for specific scenarios and assess whether or not 5G is the right tool for the job: "This is how we can identify the real needs that are worth investing in."

Huawei proposed four criteria for assessing real needs: technical relevance, business potential, value chain maturity, and standardization. Based on these criteria, four typical scenarios that demonstrate a real need for 5G include remote control, video backhaul, machine vision, and real-time positioning.

Second, networks need to adapt to different scenarios. Networks are the foundation of competitive 5G services, so network equipment, together with network planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization, must be able to meet the requirements of an incredibly diverse range of industrial use cases. This requires operators and vendors to work together and keep innovating based on in-depth insight into industrial challenges.

Third, a thriving industrial 5G device ecosystem is key. Huawei estimates that the average price of 5G modules will level out at around US$100 by the end of 2020, and hit US$40 by the end of 2022, which will greatly enrich the 5G device ecosystem.

Fourth, telecoms operators need to develop new capabilities to serve business-facing 5G markets. 5G technology is a critical element in digital transformation, but it’s not a full solution in and of itself. So beyond connectivity, telecoms service providers need to build a range of adjacent capabilities in areas like cloud operations, industry application development, and end-to-end system integration. At the moment, there is a noticeable lack of comprehensive solutions to meet these needs in the enterprise market.

Telecoms operators are in a good position to provide these services. By focusing on connectivity, they can solidify their position as a connection provider in markets where existing network solutions are no longer sufficient. If they develop cloud and integration capabilities on top of that, operators can then provide a combination of connectivity, cloud, and integration services. Different roles have different capability requirements, and Huawei has doubled down on its commitment to helping carriers transform their portfolios as needed.

"5G will create increasingly greater value for industries over the next decade," said Hu in closing. "This means another period of rapid development for the telecoms industry. Moving forward, we will have to overcome a number of difficulties, and every step forward requires change. But I firmly believe that the hardest things are the things worth doing most. Because when you succeed, the results are incredible. We are ready and willing to work with operators, our enterprise customers, and industry partners to push the boundaries of innovation and build a better future for everyone."

At the 2020 Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei will share insights into global industry trends and hot topics with carriers, regulators, partners, and media analysts from around the world. They will explore how innovation in ICT technologies such as 5G and AI can be mutually beneficial to industries and society at large.
