IBM, DELTA AIR LINES WPP, 4A’S, IAB, AD COUNCIL AND OTHER INDUSTRY LEADERS ACT TO MITIGATE BIAS IN ADVERTISING TECHNOLOGY

IBM Delivers Open Source Toolkit to Identify and Mitigate Bias in Advertising Technology

CANNES, France, June 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, leading companies committed to improving fairness in marketing campaigns. The initiative, announced at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2022, brought together agencies, brands, and other leaders to generate awareness and take action towards mitigating bias in advertising technology. Committing organizations include IBM (NYSE: IBM), Delta Air Lines, WPP, Mindshare, 4A’s, IAB and the Ad Council.

The action is the most recent effort by IBM to drive education and awareness around the impact of bias in advertising technology. In 2021, the company launched a research initiative to explore the hypothesis that bias can exist in ad technology, which initial findings confirmed. The research also showed that mitigating bias in ad technology was possible using AI tools and resources in marketing processes. More industry participation and data collection are needed to better understand the potential impact of bias on these campaigns, but several industry leaders are demonstrating early activism by raising awareness and taking action via IBM’s Advertising Fairness Pledge.

“While the risk of bias in advertising is well known, by making this commitment, these organizations are among the first in the industry to take action,” said Bob Lord, IBM Senior Vice President of The Weather Company and Alliances. “Together, we are agreeing to educate ourselves and our companies and ask other industry leaders to join us in helping to mitigate bias in advertising.”

Toward that effort, IBM also announced the release of its gratis Advertising Toolkit for AI Fairness 360, an open-source solution deploying 75 fairness metrics and 13 state-of-the-art algorithms to help identify and mitigate biases in discrete data sets. A playbook and sample code are also made available for ease of use. Organizations utilizing the toolkit may gain a better understanding of the presence and impact of bias on their ad campaigns, as well as the makeup of their audiences.

“Used correctly, data can help brands personalize consumer engagement and identify the most relevant touchpoints. However, we know that bias can exist in algorithms or technology, and that’s why we’re helping our clients to evaluate how and when to use data in a meaningful way that will benefit the customer experience,” said Mark Read, CEO of WPP. “Through WPP’s GroupM, we’ve developed the Data Ethics Compass to help clients navigate the challenges of using datasets, while IBM’s new Advertising Toolkit for AI Fairness 360 will help us to better understand the potential impact of bias. Consumers rightly expect brands to use their information in a fair way and for the industry to tackle data bias collectively, which can ultimately result in increased engagement and commercial outcomes.”

Bias is often unintentional, a result of human assumptions and judgments encoded into algorithms that can result in unfair targeting, exclusion of certain groups, and marketing campaign failures. Organizations taking the pledge can contribute data to ongoing studies that seek to better explain the impact of bias. According to Salesforce’s 2022 State of the Connected Customer survey, nearly 62 percent of consumers surveyed reported they are concerned about bias in AI, up from just 54 percent two years prior, emphasizing the imperative for brands and agencies to better understand its impacts.

“As technology and data prevalence accelerates, the risk for bias in advertising compounds. It is our duty to address this head-on,” said Adam Gerhart, Global CEO of Mindshare. “We believe the industry needs to take clear and intentional action, which is why we are committing to leverage the Advertising Toolkit for AI Fairness 360.”

As the advertising industry continues to face issues related to privacy and transparency, many organizations believe that tackling bias in ad tech could be a next key area of focus for marketers. Nearly $1 trillion was spent on digital advertising globally in 2021, much of which flows through programmatic engines that segment and target specific audiences, sometimes missing large consumer groups in the process. With increasing consumer demand for transparency in how their data is used, marketers must look for new ways to remain effective. Tapping into alternative privacy-forward data sources, such as weather data, can be effective predictors of behavior that could also help rebuild trust with consumers.

“As a global brand, we know that every decision we make, whether it’s about a supplier, an employee or an ad campaign, is a reflection of our values and the change we want to see in the world,” said Emmakate Young, Delta’s Managing Director of Brand Marketing. “We’ve long been focused on inclusive representation in our campaign creative, this effort allows us to go a step further to bring more inclusive representation to our campaign delivery.”

Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage Wins Best of Show Award at Interop Tokyo 2022

SHENZHEN, China, June 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — At Interop Tokyo 2022, the largest ICT exhibition in Japan, Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage won Special Prize for Best of Show Award in the Server & Storage category. This is the first world-class award won by Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage, demonstrating its high-end and competitive advantages.

Award-winning review: Unparalleled backup storage performance. With rapid backup speeds and high data reduction ratios, the system may revolutionize applications and system designs and propel a new backup storage model into the future.

Interop Tokyo is the largest and most influential ICT exhibition in Japan. Each year, top technology companies from around the world showcase their leading solutions and technical prowess, to compete for Interop’s positive reviews. Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage earned plaudits from IT experts and reviewers with its industry-leading, unique solution and flawless on-site demonstration.

The traditional Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape (D2D2T) model for data protection faces problems like long backup window and recovery time, while the new era of Flash-to-Flash-to-Anything (F2F2X) is redefining the model as backup solutions are going flash, further unlocking the value of data. The Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage, as the next-generation intelligent all-flash benchmark product, is built for the F2F2X age, featuring rapid backup and recovery, efficient reduction, and high reliability.

Why Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage was crowned the winner

The first advantage is rapid backup and recovery. At the front end, OceanProtect uses DTOE intelligent network interface card (NIC) to optimize protocol computing and release CPU computing resources, doubling the array bandwidth compared to traditional NIC. Furthermore, OceanProtect supports high-performance SSDs at the back end. The end-to-end full acceleration feature enables up to 155 TB/hour backup and 172 TB/hour recovery bandwidths, respectively.

In terms of efficient reduction, multi-layer inline variable-length dedupe, feature-based compression, and byte-level compaction achieve up to 72:1 data reduction ratio, which contributed to great TCO savings.

Furthermore, 6-nines high reliability is built on the Active-Active redundancy hardware architecture and RAID-TP technology, which can tolerate three disk failures and implement failover within seconds when single controller failure, achieving high availability and reliability.

In the F2F2X age, data protection is embracing a new ecosystem and challenges. Huawei OceanProtect Backup Storage adapts to high-speed backup models in diverse industries and application environments, providing premium backup and recovery to safeguard your data assets in the intelligent world.

Beko and Grundig bring their vision for a better future to the stage at EuroCucina – FTK 2022

LONDON, June 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Grundig and Beko, leading household appliance companies, participated in Europe’s major kitchen trade show, EuroCucina 2022, to showcase their latest product innovations and share insights from Arçelik CEO, Hakan Bulgurlu and Grundig Brand Ambassador, Chef Massimo Bottura.

Beko Grundig Eurocucina 2022

Speaking at the Sustainability Talks, Hakan Bulgurlu and Massimo Bottura discussed the current state of the climate, food social sustainability and how failure to act on climate change now may drive a global food crisis that transcends economies and regions. Their discussion also turned to how companies should place sustainability at the heart of their business strategy, drawing examples of projects that Arçelik is pursuing to achieve its ambitious vision.

Commenting on the growing climate crisis, Hakan stated that “the amount of time left, to avoid an increase of 1.5°C in temperature, is incredibly small and the current state of the planet is, unfortunately, dire.” Arguing that pursuing a sustainable business model is urgent, achievable and ultimately rewarding for companies, which is why Arçelik is deeply committed to reaching net zero by 2050.

The discussion also examined the impact of climate change on food security worldwide. Hakan stated that “the rising heat has already damaged agricultural capacity in many countries, which forces governments to limit or even ban exports of various crops. This creates a food shortage and leads to more and more people going to bed hungry, each night.”  To combat this crisis, Grundig partnered with Chef Bottura, who founded the Food for Soul Initiative in early 2016 to encourage communities to fight food waste in the interest of social inclusion as well as individual wellbeing. This project created the foundation of the relationship between Chef Bottura and Grundig.

Chef Bottura states that “Grundig is the only foreign company to which I am very closed both for a sharing of values and for gratitude because they were among the first to believe in my Food for Soul project. We both want to change things simply, connecting people can really make a difference to change the world. If you want to change something you have to stay together.”

Grundig, as the official partner of Food for Soul, has set up more than thirteen refettorios, around the world. Refettorios aim to develop community spaces and experiences that promote sustainability and help tackle food waste. So far, these efforts have helped save more than 955 tonnes of food saved, distributed 2.08 million hospitality meals, and engaged over 100,000 chefs and volunteers.

In talking about solutions, Hakan spoke about Arçelik’s decarbonisation roadmap and ambitious plans to offset carbon emissions, which led to the topic of energy efficiency. Arçelik’s decarbonisation vision is led by the company’s effort to ensure energy efficiency in both the production and the products. As home appliances are such a necessity, the responsibility to reduce the large amount of energy consumed by these appliances falls on their producers. With that in mind, Arçelik aims to increase its products’ energy efficiency by 50% by 2030.

The talks appropriately took place in Beko and Grundig’s ‘Zero-Impact’ booth, which was designed by architect, Martino Berghinz and named, ‘Sustainability on Stage’. The materials used to create the booth were, altogether more than ninety-five percent reusable. Additionally, to highlight the guests’ overall sustainability experience, Beko and Grundig partnered with ZeroCO2, a company specialising in reforestation projects with high social impact, to carry out an in-depth Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis of Beko and Grundig’s participation in the event, and a subsequent offsetting operation. This operation involves a social fruit-planting project that will not only offset the CO2 emitted but also support local farming families by donating the planted fruit to contribute to their economic and food well-being.

The booth also featured Beko’s Beyond and Grundig’s Prologue Ranges as well as two Immersive Rooms, dedicated to telling a story of those technologies that are most representative of Arçelik’s commitment to sustainability. These rooms offered visitors, a virtual and multisensory experience. The products and their associated technologies included within both of these ranges demonstrates Arçelik’s efforts towards creating a manufacturing ecosystem that favours the circular economy. For example,

  • Grundig’s FiberCatcher Washing Machines integrates the first-of-its-kind filter that collects and retains 90 percent of the microfibres produced by washing cycles, which would otherwise pollute the marine ecosystem, and consequently end up in the food we eat.
  • Beko’s HarvestFresh Refrigerators are designed to better preserve the vitamin and nutritional contents of fruits and vegetables.

In its entirety Beko and Grundig’s zero-impact booth offered guests a holistic sustainability experience, while reaffirming Arçelik’s commitments to innovation in the service of a more sustainable future.

ARCELIK

With over 40,000 employees throughout the world, Arçelik’s global operations including sales and marketing offices in 51 countries, and 28 production facilities in 9 countries with 12 brands (Arçelik, Beko, Grundig, Blomberg, ElektraBregenz, Arctic, Leisure, Flavel, Defy, Altus, Dawlance, Voltas Beko). • The company is designing the Cisco Security Cloud to be the most open security platform with no public cloud lock-in
  • Cisco is taking steps to realize its vision with innovations across the industry’s most complete portfolio, driving security resilience for its customers

SAN FRANCISCO, June 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — RSA Conference – Cisco, the leader in enterprise networking and security, unveiled its plan for a global, cloud-delivered, integrated platform that secures and connects organizations of any shape and size. The company is designing the Cisco Security Cloud to be the industry’s most open platform, protecting the integrity of the entire IT ecosystem – without public cloud lock-in.

At RSA Conference 2022, Cisco unveiled its strategic plan to provide security resilience for a hybrid multi-cloud future
At RSA Conference 2022, Cisco unveiled its strategic plan to provide security resilience for a hybrid multi-cloud future

“With the complexity of hybrid work, continued acceleration of cloud adoption, and the ever-advancing threat landscape, organizations are looking for a trusted partner to help them achieve security resilience. We believe Cisco is uniquely positioned due to its scale, breadth of solutions and cloud-neutral business model to meet their needs,” said Jeetu Patel, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco. “Cisco is already delivering upon key tenets of our cloud platform vision. We’re excited to increase our innovation velocity to truly deliver on the vision of the Cisco Security Cloud.”

The Security Cloud will provide an integrated experience for securely connecting people and devices everywhere to applications and data anywhere. With unified management, the open platform will provide threat prevention, detection, response, and remediation capabilities at scale. Cisco has been on the journey toward the Security Cloud for some time and is sharing additional progress with new innovations across its security portfolio.

Secure Access

Ushering in the next generation of zero trust, Cisco is building solutions that enable true continuous trusted access by constantly verifying user and device identity, device posture, vulnerabilities, and indicators of compromise. These intelligent checks take place in the background, leaving the user to work without security getting in the way. Cisco is introducing less intrusive methods for risk-based authentication, including the patent-pending Wi-Fi fingerprint as an effective location proxy without compromising user privacy.

To evaluate risk after a user logs in, Cisco is building session trust analysis using the open Shared Signals and Events standards to share information between vendors. Cisco unveiled the first integration of this technology with a demo of Cisco Secure Access by Duo and Box.

“The threat landscape today is evolving faster than ever before,” said Aaron Levie, CEO and Co-founder of Box. “We are excited to strengthen our relationship with Cisco and deliver customers with a powerful new tool that enables them to act on changes in risk dynamically and in near real-time. You can expect to see more innovation and execution from Box and Cisco that help businesses protect their content across any location, application, or device.”

Secure Edge

To radically simplify how organizations connect and protect users, things, and applications, anywhere, Cisco is excited to introduce Cisco+ Secure Connect Now, a unified Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution. Cisco+ Secure Connect Now is a turnkey offer available in several countries that allows customers to quickly deploy SASE and ease day-to-day operations through a cloud-managed platform. The as-a-service subscription is optimized for value and managed through a unified dashboard.

Cisco offers unmatched breadth and depth in its networking and security capabilities, which is why Telefonica Tech will add Cisco’s SASE suite to its service portfolio.

“As businesses shift to support hybrid work and work from anywhere models, we are committed to helping them adapt to the increased demand for high performing and secure connectivity,” said Rames Sarwat, Director of Cyber Security & Cloud Products and Services at Telefonica Tech. “Together with Cisco, we will offer customers an innovative, managed service that will combine SD-Branch with Cisco SASE to address a complete set of next-generation connectivity and security use cases for the branch and the hybrid worker.”

Secure Operations

Cisco added a new Talos Intel On-Demand service offering custom research on the threat landscape unique to each organization. To help accelerate incident detection and response, Cisco announced enhancements to Cisco Secure Cloud Analytics with its ability to automatically promote alerts into SecureX and map those alerts to MITRE ATT&CK. This follows the general availability of SecureX device insights to aggregate, correlate, and normalize data about the devices in their environment, and the integrations of Kenna and Secure Endpoint to better prioritize vulnerabilities. Cisco also introduced the Secure Firewall 3100 Series, designed for hybrid work with a new encrypted visibility engine that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to detect hidden threats.

Simplification

Cisco is introducing simplification across the portfolio with the new unified Secure Client. Streamlining how administrators and users manage endpoints, half of Cisco Secure agents, including AnyConnect, Secure Endpoint, and Umbrella, will be unified by mid-year 2022 with additional agents to be added over time. This follows the new cloud-delivered Secure Firewall Management Center, which is enabled through the Cisco Defense Orchestrator and unifies management of both cloud and on-premise firewalls.

Thailand moving ahead to develop ‘Innovation City’ and reconnect the world

  • Strong spatial potential of Bangkok explored and analyzed to attract innovation-driven enterprises from around the world
  • The country remains in the Top 50 in Global Startup Ecosystem Index
  • Startup x Innovation Thailand Expo 2022 (SITE 2022) to be held hybridly in June this year

BANGKOK, May 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Thailand is forging forward with the development of its first smart innovation hub, led by the National Innovation Agency (Public Organization), better known as NIA. This is accomplished by exploring and analyzing the spatial potential of Bangkok and other significant cities for a specific purpose. After the country’s reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic, Bangkok is intended to be a regional innovation hub for innovation-friendly investment, regional air travel hub, and the creation of innovation districts, with the goal of attracting innovation-based entrepreneurs and stimulating strategic partnerships from around the world.

Dr Pun-Arj Chairatana, Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), Thailand
Dr Pun-Arj Chairatana, Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), Thailand

Thailand also maintains its position in the Top 50 of the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2021, with four of its cities ranking among the first 1,000 cities with the finest infrastructure and resources for fostering the startup ecosystem.

Commenting on the ambitious move, Dr. Pun-Arj Chairatana, Executive Director of NIA, said: “Many cities throughout the world have policies in place to improve the quality of life and the economy, as well as to make their communities more livable. To make the city a sustainable city, innovation is employed to promote problem-solving and handle difficulties in a fast and effective manner. Bangkok is a city that is constantly expanding. Urbanization is critical, and it invariably requires policies that encourage or provide space for innovation. Such challenges are crucial in supporting the capital’s and the country’s lifestyles and economic prosperity.”

He also said, “To build a brand-related to innovation for Bangkok, it should create an impression that is more than just a city welcoming tourist. What must be pushed intensely is to develop a truly international innovation collaboration space for the community of digital startups, corporates, entrepreneurs, world changers, and innovators. It is a world-class network that wants to help accelerate innovation through fostering co-creation, friendly regulations, and welcoming urban development plans that attract innovative business entrepreneurs. It should also enable connectivity to other cities in order to lessen the concentration of growth and allow for new ways to utilize the resources available in each place. When these cities are discussed, they will have a distinct image, such as being a green city, a clean technology city, or a retail center, which will become a city brand.”

“Many cities designated as Smart Cities or Innovation Cities, such as Barcelona, London, Shenzhen, New York, and other Asian and European cities, must have critical features that are friendly to innovation. They all have the capacity to govern the city’s infrastructure and have regulations that encourage the development of new ideas. It also has the image of a city government that promotes growth through innovation,” said Dr. Pun-Arj.

According to NIA, Thailand has the potential to become an Innovative City in three areas: financial innovation, aviation hub growth, and the creation of innovation districts that invite international investment.

Bangkok as a regional hub for investment in innovation ventures

Bangkok has the potential to become an ASEAN powerhouse for investment in innovation ventures. Previously, investors had the option of choosing between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta. More global venture capital firms, on the other hand, have chosen to invest in Bangkok because of the city’s reputation as a hotbed of financial innovation, owing to the city’s well-built infrastructure. Furthermore, the city is working to expand opportunities for persons who are skilled or have experience. Efforts have been made to promote the body of knowledge, commercial collaborations, and new business connections.

The city has a variety of educational institutions that may provide upskilling and reskilling as well as information regarding financial services developments. The country receives advantages in terms of pulling money from both within and beyond the country by building a framework to promote the use of technology to assist the financial innovation industry. As a result, many people think of Bangkok as a nice city willing to welcome the financial innovation community, and these good aspects shine out so that more people notice them.

Bangkok as a regional ‘aviation hub’ when the world is reconnected

Bangkok’s strength is that it is the world’s air transportation hub. Because there are just two countries in ASEAN, with Singapore and Bangkok competing for the position, visitors to the region can easily travel to diverse destinations both domestically and internationally. Tourism is expected to return to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed. The most important things to plan in Bangkok are solutions for travelers and convenience for entrepreneurs. This invites inventive people from all over the world to engage and collaborate with other sectors by proving that it is an open city for Global Citizens.

‘Innovation districts’ defined as areas rich in opportunities that must be expanded

One of the most important things that visitors to Bangkok look for is the uniqueness of each region and the benefits that can be derived from them. Bangkok has several potentials for innovation. A certain area of the city can be designated as a medical district, a digital development district, a tourism zone, or a logistics district, among other things. These can serve as incubators for entrepreneurs and catalysts for economic value creation. Many stakeholders will benefit from the commitment to establish innovation districts, and it will be a driving factor for economic growth today and in the future.

Bangkok as the startup capital

Thailand remains in the Top 50 of StartupBlink’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2021, a global resource for knowledge on innovation ecosystems that ranks 100 nations and 1,000 cities with the finest startup ecosystems. Thailand also has four cities among the top 1,000 in the world with the best startup ecosystems. Bangkok is ranked 71st in the world for startups based on the level of innovative prowess of 1,000 cities. This shows the availability of infrastructure, urban setting, and other factors that are comparable to their Southeast Asian or Asian counterparts.

Bangkok is also distinctive in terms of e-commerce and retail technology, ranking 33rd in the globe. Quantitative criteria such as co-working spaces, business facilities, the number of companies/branches functioning in research and technology, Internet convenience, and speed are all included. Unlike Jakarta, which has produced numerous unicorns, and Singapore, which is recognized for its financial startups, Bangkok stands out for its diversity, which it can use to connect with urban lifestyles. This stimulates investors’ interest in many types of businesses, particularly DeepTech, which the government and the NIA are actively supporting.

“To become an innovative city that can attract foreign investors and innovators, a number of factors must be in place, including collaboration among local administrative organizations, innovation investors, the new generation of leaders, educational institutions, research and development communities, and, most importantly, urban residents’ willingness to focus on innovation. We believe that by working together, they can make Bangkok more inventive.”

Dr. Pun-Arj concluded, “The transformation into a knowledge-based economy and leading investment destination will attract innovation-driven enterprises and stimulate strategic partnerships, further developing our growing tech sector by nurturing inclusive growth and impacting the lives of thousands of people in Thailand and beyond.”

Thailand, headed by NIA, will host Startup x Innovation Thailand Expo 2022 (SITE 2022), to showcase outstanding innovative products and services and connect leading startups, innovators, experts, business executives and investors. The event will be held hybridly on June 23-25, 2022, with the theme “Reconnecting the World.”

Also, TCL CSOT showed the world’s first 8″ 360° folding screen with Pol-less technology integrating the leading technology of foldable screen and 360° Stress-free self-compensating hinge.
