Smaato’s H1 2021 Trend Report Highlights a Publisher Revenue Rally

Data From Their OTT/CTV Platform and Proprietary Header Bidding Solution Cite Publisher Revenue Gains in H1

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 4, 2021 — Omnichannel ad tech platform and ad server Smaato published its H1 2021 Trend Report, celebrating that their publishers have not only recovered from the pandemic, but rallied.

The report demonstrates ad spend spiked on the platform in 2021 and global eCPMs are up 7.4% YOY. Not only has the industry’s digital adoption trend been reflected on Smaato’s platform, Smaato’s own data also supports the acceleration of OTT/CTV spend, a shift toward header bidding solutions and the importance of contextual targeting in their latest report.

Smaato’s publisher monetization options run the gamut, and with the change in user behavior here to stay, the focus on experiences across channels seems to be paying off.  As one of the only OTT/CTV platforms to offer dynamic ad breaks and bidding by ad pod, ad slot and auction type, Smaato reports higher eCPMs for ad podding, offering more evidence that delivering experiences delivers results.

Alongside Smaato’s built-in Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) and Server Side Ad Insertion (SAI) capabilities for OTT, publishers can include platform, genre, series, season, and even episode information in the bid request.

"Advertisers know what they’re bidding on, and publishers can see which ad pods, which ad slot and even which episode drives the highest revenue," says Smaato General Manager Matthew Deets. "The win-win comes down to personalizing the experience for the end user."

Another highlight in H1 is Smaato’s in-app header bidding solution. Smaato’s Unified Bidding is built into their SDK. The report cites publishers using Unified Bidding outperformed the traditional waterfall. In June of this year alone, Unified Bidding in the Smaato SDK outperformed both Android and iOS SDK integrations for won auctions by up to 10x.

"When you look at the data, it’s clear how a feature-rich platform focused on user experiences makes an impact on the bottom line," says Deets. "Now that Smaato has joined forces with Verve Group, we can only boost our ability to create personalized experiences for users to drive revenue for publishers."

Smaato’s digital ad tech platform is the only omnichannel ad server and monetization solution with controls to make monetization simple. Publishers can bring their first-party data and manage all inventory in one place. Marketers get access to the highest-quality inventory so they can reach audiences around the world and on any device. As a young university of only 17 years, KIIT’s performance is better than any other university in the country. It has also been achieving impressive positions in the rankings conducted by various Government bodies.

Expressing happiness over the development, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS credited combined efforts by students and staff for the achievement. "KIIT’s performance in the rankings is significant as it is a multi-disciplinary university with as many as 28 faculties. Had it been an institution offering only Engineering courses, it would have achieved much higher ranking," he said. KIIT’s consistent outstanding performance in global and national rankings is only due to the vision of its Founder, said elated KIIT staff.

PolyU’s research finds contact tracing is an effective way for controlling the spread of COVID-19 when borders reopen

HONG KONG, Sept. 1, 2021 — As some countries in the world begin to consider adjusting their pandemic control strategy from "zero COVID" to "living with COVID", a research study by the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has found that contact tracing is as vital as social distancing measures and vaccination in controlling the spread of COVID-19 when borders reopen. The research team has also developed a mobile app with a contact tracing feature, designed for use by inbound travellers, that would help fight the pandemic in this respect.

The pandemic situation in Hong Kong is presently under good control, thanks to the implementation of various measures, such as social distancing and vaccination, with strong support from the general public. In the past 14 days (17-30 August), only one local case with unknown sources was reported.

Nevertheless, the economy is facing severe challenges as the economic activity of many industries has been seriously affected as passenger traffic, in terms of both arrivals and departures, remains low.

With COVID-19 vaccinations being widely implemented in many countries, against the backdrop of needing to revive cross-border activities, there is a growing prospect of easing social distancing regulations and reopening borders in different countries and regions. As a more sustainable control strategy for the long term, focus is shifting towards living with the virus.

Professor CHEN Wu, Head and Professor of the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at PolyU, said, "We have conducted a study that employed a computational approach to investigate the contact tracing integrated policy in different border-reopening scenarios in Hong Kong. Built on an epidemic model with 50% vaccination coverage, the results suggest that scenarios with digital contact tracing can reduce the infectious population by 84.7% compared to those without contact tracing."

One of the key recommendations drawn from the study is that contact tracing is an effective measure for reducing local virus spread, especially when it is applied along with social distancing and vaccination measures. "Contact tracing is an influential factor in controlling the spread because all the necessary pandemic control measures would not be promptly carried out without effective tracing against confirmed cases and identifying their close contacts," Professor Chen explained.

Consequently, the research team has developed a mobile app with a contact tracing feature, targeting inbound travellers when borders reopen. Utilising the Global Navigation Satellite System, Bluetooth Low Energy and Data Analysis Technology, the mobile app is designed not only for users to record individual locations they have visited but more importantly to help users identify whether they have had close contact with those who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days.

If any user is confirmed positive for COVID-19, they can share their record with all other users at their own discretion (or through a public health department that is acting as a central coordinator on the use of the mobile app). The app on other users’ handsets will then automatically compare the individual users’ record against the record received. If the record overlaps with that of the confirmed case, individual users will be immediately alerted to take appropriate actions.

All the information recorded by the mobile app is saved in the users’ own handsets only. No personal data is required when users download or use the app, and only anonymous data will be shared with other users. The app will also provide convenience for users to access the COVID-19 pandemic information released by the Government.

Professor Chen remarked, "Contact tracing is key to effectively controlling the spread of the virus when borders reopen and the mobile app we designed for use by inbound travellers would serve as a possible solution. Furthermore, the app can be adapted for incorporating into other apps as an add-on feature."

Mobileum Named Sample Vendor in 2021 Gartner ® Hype Cycle™ reports titled, “Hype Cycle for Privacy, 2021” and “Hype Cycle for the Future of CSP Network Infrastructure”

5G Network Security mentioned as a Key Technology as report states, "Securing 5G networks is a priority for CSPs and enterprises as the rise of private deployments, vertical applications, cloud architecture and massive IoT connections in 5G creates new vulnerabilities and challenges, such as potential DDoS attack vectors and entry points. "

CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 1, 2021 — Mobileum Inc. ("Mobileum"), a leading global provider of analytics solutions for roaming and network services, security, risk management, testing, and monitoring, is pleased to announce that it has been named a Sample Vendor in the 2021 Gartner reports titled,  "Hype Cycle for Privacy, 2021" [1] and "Hype Cycle for the Future of CSP Network Infrastructure, 2021"[2]. Mobileum is named in the 5G network security category.

According to Gartner, "securing 5G networks is a priority for CSPs and enterprises as the rise of private deployments, vertical applications, cloud architecture and massive IoT connections in 5G creates new vulnerabilities and challenges, such as potential DDoS attack vectors and entry points".What’s more, "security and risk management leaders managing technology, information and resilience risk consider privacy a top priority". Gartner estimates that, " By year-end 2023, 75% of the world’s population will have its personal data covered under modern privacy regulations, up from 25% today".[1]

"For CSPs to monetize more demanding 5G use cases, such as smart cities, they will need to guarantee security levels. This will require true end-to-end 5G network security spanning the core network, network slices, edge, and through to enhanced subscriber identity protection. We consider that being named by Gartner as a Sample Vendor for 5G network security category reinforces Mobileum market leadership position in telecom security and risk management space," stated Avnish Chauhan, CTO at Mobileum.

Mobileum’s Active Intelligence platform is a leading telecom-focused analytics technology that supports roaming, network services, security, risk management, and testing.  Mobileum’s network security product portfolio provides CSPs with end-to-end security and protection for 5G networks, services, and subscribers. Mobileum’s solutions enable secure interconnect between 5G networks, while ensuring backward compatibility across 5G, 4G, 3G, 2G MNO networks. The Active Intelligence platform ensures 5G network security with cross-protocol powered signaling firewalls, including SS7, GTP, Diameter, and SIP firewalls. Backed by Mobileum’s advanced analytics, penetration testing, SMS Spam Protect, and traffic anomaly detection, CSPs can detect threats before they happen, enabling them to deliver secure IoT connections, meet the higher security requirements for network slicing, and deliver 5G security demands needed for guaranteed QoS and QoE.

GCash cements fintech leadership and innovation thrust in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines, Aug. 30, 2021 — GCash, the number 1 mobile wallet in the Philippines, continues to be a rising star in Asia as it sets the bar higher for fintech innovation in the region. The company achieved unprecedented growth as it saw an exponential increase in its number of users from 20 million in January 2020 to 46 million in June 2021. The app also had over 13 million log-ins per day, peaking at almost 15 million in the second quarter of 2021.

GCash served as a lifeline for millions of Filipinos during the pandemic as users were able to perform various digital financial payments and solutions nationwide

GCash is the undisputed mobile wallet in the Philippines and continues to strengthen its vision to promote financial inclusion for all
GCash is the undisputed mobile wallet in the Philippines and continues to strengthen its vision to promote financial inclusion for all

This year, GCash processed an average of PHP 300 billion in monthly transactions, and is on track in breaching its PHP 3 trillion Gross Transaction Value (GTV) target. The company boasts of its wide network of more than 2.5 million merchant partners and social sellers via its QR and P2P features, enabling the app to cater to a diverse set of stakeholders in the country. As one out of every 3 Filipinos is now using the app, GCash sets its eyes on achieving more game changing milestones to uplift the lives of many and contribute to building an even stronger and more robust Philippine economy.

With its clear vision of promoting financial inclusion for all, GCash has quickly adapted to the needs of the Filipino people by being a digital payment essential for individuals and entrepreneurs, especially during the pandemic. The company has launched trailblazing products and programs to reach out to more sectors in the country, including underserved and vulnerable groups like overseas workers, the youth, small businesses and even market vendors and cab/tricycle drivers. The top mobile wallet company worked with the Philippine government last year and became its financial aid tool for communities affected by COVID 19, disbursing over P16 billion to more than 2 million Filipinos. It was likewise able to raise over P40 million in donations via digital bayanihan or resource mobilisation, helping at least 3 million Filipinos impacted by typhoons and other calamities.

A fast-rising regional fintech brand

The fintech brand was recently included in the Top 100 Brands in the Philippines, according to Campaign Asia-Pacific and NielsenIQ. GCash is also one of Asia’s top 1,000 brands this 2021.

Asia’s Top 1000 Brands is a consumer opinion survey across 14 markets in Asia-Pacific and measures brand preference in 15 product/service categories. It shows brands that are succeeding with their marketing and brand-building efforts and reveals the favorite brands among consumers. This year’s study saw the changing consumer behavior among brands and their increasing digital services.

"We are honored to be part of the top brands in the Philippines and in Asia. This award further inspires us to continue with our mission to empower as many Filipinos as possible by giving them access to digital financial solutions that can make their lives better and more convenient especially during this pandemic," said Martha Sazon, President and CEO of GCash.

No other fintech brand made it to the top 50 of the prestigious list, where the ranking of GCash rose from the previous year’s 51st spot to this 24th in the country in 2021.  Among the high-ranking brands in the list are Samsung, Apple, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Nike, Nestle, Google, Colgate, and Starbucks.

Solidifying customer experience through value-adding services

GCash provides customers with an easy and secure cashless payment platform through digital products and services like free money transfers from user to user, frictionless bank transfers, and bills payments. The mobile wallet company also offers businesses, especially MSMEs, a contactless way to accept payment for goods through the use of QR codes and its P2P platform, which has empowered over 2.5 million GCash merchants and social sellers.

Currently, a third of GCash’s monthly active users utilize at least one of the app’s digital products like GCredit, GSave, GInvest, or GInsure. GCash provides customers easy access to a pre-approved credit line to pay for bills or QR transactions with GCredit, safely deposit money with GSave, easily invest in a market fund with GInvest, and buy essentials on GLife.  With the health risks of the pandemic, GCash also offers customers  COVID-19 health insurance for as low as P39 (~USD 0.78) a month via GInsure.

"We are glad to see that GCash has become an extension of the Filipino digital life everyday. It is our goal to democratize access to financial services because everyone deserves to have ways to protect and grow their money, especially during these difficult times," said Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO.

GCash feted as outstanding fintech company promoting nation building

GCash was recently named as an "Outstanding Partner" by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) – the Central Bank of the Philippines, at the agency’s 2021 Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremony. The recognition is for GCash’s continued support and commitment to deliver innovative financial solutions for all Filipinos, especially the unbanked and underbanked segments. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin E. Diokno, in a recent webinar, described his vision for the country becoming a digital-heavy, cash-light society to help achieve inclusive growth. "50% or half of all transactions should be digital by 2023, and 70% of Filipino adults should have formal bank accounts by 2023," Governor Diokno said.

GCash also garnered two awards from the prestigious Asian Banker Awards 2021, and was the sole Philippine fintech company to do so. It won awards for the "Best Financial Inclusion Initiative/Application" for its Social Amelioration Program together with the country’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and "Best Digital Brand Campaign" for its CSR response to COVID-19, further solidifying the company as the e-wallet app in the country.

GCash continues to empower more Filipinos everyday as it strengthens its "One with the Nation" corporate social responsibility program employing various initiatives including NGO partnerships, programs on disaster response and environmental stewardship, as well as grassroots finlit education campaigns nationwide.

Many Filipinos have come to rely on GCash for their daily cashless payment transactions, helping sustain the economy during the pandemic and propelling the mobile wallet to becoming one of the most respected and widely used brands in the Philippines today.

According to Visa’s latest Consumer Payment Attitudes study, Filipinos using digital commerce platforms like GCash helped boost the usage of digital payments in the country. It was also expected that it will continue to grow as more Filipinos appreciate the benefits of contactless payments like GCash during the pandemic.

Research by Universum Reveals That Young Filipino Talent Favour Employers who Offer Professional Training & Development and Respect Their People

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Google are seen as the most ideal employers among business and STEM talent, respectively

MANILA, Philippines, Aug. 26, 2021 — Today, Universum launches the findings from the Philippines portion of the world’s largest annual talent survey, with over 8,000 students from leading national universities in the Philippines who responded between December 2020 and June 2021. Set out to track career aspirations and preferences of the future talent pool, the Top 100 Ideal Employers student survey also recognises the most coveted employers based solely on the responses collected.

This year, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has overtaken Philippine Airlines as the most attractive employer for business/commerce students, whereas Google retained its top position as the most desired employer among engineering talent.

Business students have a strong desire to work for domestic employers

The 2021 study reveals that 58% of young business/commerce talent would prefer to work for an employer founded in the Philippines. This is something that is also reflected in resulting employer rankings for business/commerce talent, with nine out of the top choices being homegrown. The banking industry remains the most preferred industry amongst business students (49% seeing it as a top choice), followed by auditing & accounting (37%) and e-commerce (33%).

Respect for its people surpass high future earnings

When asked about what they look for in an ideal employer, Filipino students report prioritising employers who offer strong professional training and development and show respect for their people. Both of these key attributes are highly associated with top performing employers Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and San Miguel Corporation.

When looking at the different markets around the world covered by Universum’s talent preference survey, it is clear that today’s students are highly drawn towards employers who demonstrate they have a social conscience, respect their people and perform well in some of the softer aspects, such as culture and working environment.

Mike Parsons, managing director APAC for Universum, said "Around the world in 2021, we have seen respect for its people trending. In the Philippines, this attribute was already important to talent but is now their second-highest priority when selecting a future employer, only behind "professional training and development". Employers who are serious about attracting the very best young talent in the Philippines need to listen to the strong message talent are sending. They also need to ensure that they not only deliver upon this but that they can articulate, both internally and externally, the respectful nature of their culture."

Salary expectations have increased

The study revealed that the young talent graduating in the Philippines expects, on average, an annual salary of 440,843 PHP, which represents an increase of 12% from a year before. In most regional and global markets, pay expectations have been stagnant or only increased modestly due to the tough economic conditions of the past year. Clearly, talent in the Philippines has far more optimism.

Sadly, female students expected 5% less salary than their male counterparts. However, among the students surveyed in Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan, the Philippines has the smallest gap between what the different genders expect to be paid.

Intelligent Systems | Tech Helps GAC Jump to 176th on the Fortune 500

GUANGZHOU, China, Aug. 13, 2021 — For almost 25 years, GAC has strengthened independent innovation on the basis of joint ventures and cooperation, as well as through extensively funding of the GAC R&D Centers. This investment in technology has yielded great results: as of August 2, 2021, GAC had jumped 30 places up on the Fortune 500 list to 176th.

Despite a global downturn, GAC achieved revenue growth of over 5% in 2020, and sales of over 2 million models. Figures for first half of 2021 were especially impressive, with overall sales increasing by over 25%.

At the GAC Group 2021 Investors’ Day, GAC presented some of the astounding technological achievements which will form the foundations of future growth, into a global top-tier automobile manufacturer.

Connectivity, New Energy | The Coming Years at GAC

"No technology, no GAC." This motto neatly encompasses the development strategy of GAC and its subsidiaries.

At the center of the GAC plan are the two tenets of smart connectivity and new energy.

GAC group has recently developed and upgraded multiple vehicle technologies, including the L2++ driving assistance system; experienced the Robotaxi, an L4 self-driving car; the Magic Box, a striking concept car developed by GAC; and the GIEC, one of China’s most advanced intelligent cockpits.

Over the next five years, GAC Group will focus on comprehensively improving independent innovation, and realizing high-quality development in five areas: electrification, smart connectivity, digitization, communalization and internationalization.

One aspect of this is the new GAC New Energy Vehicle Industrial Park, which will focus on EV (pure Electric Vehicle) + ICV (Intelligent Connected Vehicle) production, of key importance in the shift towards greener, low-carbon and sustainable vehicles and production. Excitingly, GAC is also working closely with tech giant Huawei on the production of a high-end autonomous car for the private market, due to enter mainstream production by 2023.

Striving for better

Placing 176th on the Fortune 500 is representative of the hard work and cohesion of the multi-faceted GAC Group workforce. It is an achievement to be proud of, but GAC is committed to striving for better, surpassing its previous limits to climb higher and higher on the world stage.

GAC is more than ready for the next five years. Let’s go!

Tolly Verifies Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution Leads the Industry in Five Critical Campus Network Capabilities

NANJING, China, Aug. 6, 2021 — The Tolly Group, a world-renowned independent testing lab, recently released the comparative testing results of campus network solutions from leading vendors. The findings show that Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution leads the industry in five critical campus network capabilities: solution architecture, automated network management, intelligent Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and experience assurance, network security, and openness.

Intelligently connecting all things and migrating services to the clouds are two megatrends experienced by campus networks amid the ongoing enterprise digital transformation. Today’s enterprise CIOs and network managers struggle to ensure user and application experience in the face of ever-changing services.

Against this backdrop, Tolly designed 61 test cases, 27 of which are new, by following the principle of building an experience-centric campus network and revolving around the full network O&M lifecycle, from planning and construction all the way to maintenance and optimization. Under the same test environment, Tolly engineers strictly and comprehensively tested Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution and a comparable solution from another industry-leading vendor.

The test results verify that Huawei’s Cloud Campus Solution outperforms the counterpart by offering simpler architecture, higher level of automation, more intelligent O&M, stronger network-security convergence, and better openness for easy interoperability with third-party vendor offerings. With advantages in these five critical capabilities, Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution can help enterprises slash IT O&M time and investment. It can also assist enterprises to build user-centric networks for reduced user complaints, improved network stability and reliability, lowered O&M costs, and enhanced operational efficiency.

Kevin Tolly, Founder and CEO of the Tolly Group, said: "According to our comprehensive testing, we are impressed by the compelling features of Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution, such as one-stop management architecture, full-lifecycle automated management, and intelligent O&M. We believe that the Huawei solution will empower enterprises to seize new opportunities arising from digital transformation in the cloud era."

"We are thrilled that Tolly has conducted independent and rigorous testing on Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution. The Tolly test report is of great help for customers of all types and sizes to better understand Huawei’s CloudCampus Solution," said Li Xing, President of the Campus Network Domain, Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line. "Looking ahead, we will continue to follow our ‘fully wireless networking, one global network, cloud management, and intelligent O&M’ philosophy and provide customers and partners with the most advanced campus network products and solutions."
