TECH4ALL: Driving Inclusion and Sustainability with Partnerships

– Huawei and its global partners hosted a media roundtable at HAS2023

SHENZHEN, China, April 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — At a media roundtable held yesterday at Huawei Global Analyst Summit 2023, Huawei and its global partners shared the latest TECH4ALL practices and discussed how digital technology enables a more inclusive and sustainable digital world.

Huawei and partners held TECH4ALL roundtable on Day 2 at HAS 2023
Huawei and partners held TECH4ALL roundtable on Day 2 at HAS 2023

During the session, several of Huawei’s global TECH4ALL partners also made updates on projects that are currently running across the globe. A key message was that for each project, the powerful combination of technology and partnerships has been fundamental to driving positive outcomes.

“All our efforts in TECH4ALL initiatives have only been possible due to the combination of technology and partnerships,” said Jeffrey Zhou, President of ICT Marketing for Huawei in his opening remarks at the roundtable.

Since the initiative’s launch in 2019, Huawei has worked closely with governments, customers, international organizations, research institutes, and NGOs to make the social value of digital technology as far-reaching as possible.

Driving Equity and Quality in Education

To drive inclusion and help build sustainable futures, TECH4ALL education projects have so far reached 220,000 beneficiaries globally. Priority beneficiaries are remote and rural communities and underserved groups, including women and girls, unemployed youth, people with disabilities, the elderly, and K12 students and teachers.

During the roundtable, YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation shared its vision underlining how technology-based support platforms empower early-career teachers in rural areas by providing online training to develop their professional capabilities and confidence.

“The greatest development is the development of human beings. In the future, we would love to continue working with Huawei, enhancing rural education through technology,” said Hui Ling, Secretary General for YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation.

Conserving Nature with Technology

In the area of sustainability and nature conservation, TECH4ALL projects have helped conserve biodiversity efficiently and manage natural resources sustainably in 46 protected areas across the globe, including 5 pilot projects under the Tech4Nature partnership set up in 2020 between Huawei and International Union for Conservation of Nature.

“When we talk about biodiversity and area-based conservation, technology can really help us in assisting in monitoring and strengthening reporting on biodiversity, climate and area-based conservation targets,” said Khalid Pasha, Asia Coordinator, IUCN Asia Regional Office.

During the roundtable, TECH4ALL partner C Minds shared on the Mexico Tech4Nature project. Launched in May 2022 with IUCN, C Minds and other local partners, the project is harnessing the power of AI and community centered approaches to safeguard biodiversity in the Dzilam State Reserve, including the endangered North American jaguar.

“The use of technologies provides the ability to scale up conservation action to unprecedented levels and ensure shorter time frames, which we achieved in this case, that the results of years of manual tagging and data interpretation were achieved in less than 1 year of working together with technology and partnerships. It also provides the ability to create transparent and measurable impact,” said Regina Cervera Pacheco, Project Coordinator for C Minds.

Using ICT to Boost Rural Development

ITU-D also attended the session to update on the Smart Village Pakistan project. Launched in January 2023, this project model accelerates the impact of multiple SDGs by increasing last-mile access and provides remote villages with access to a range of digital services, including e-health, e-education, and e-commerce with a view to improving the quality of life and economic opportunities.

Pakistan is ITU’s first smart village programme in Asia Pacific under the Smart Villages and Smart Islands initiative. We are very proud of partnering with the Government of Pakistan and Huawei in this. These kinds of pilots also bring in new partners, who can bring about even bigger changes. I’d like to thank all those who have stepped in to make this a success.” said Ashish Narayan, Program Coordinator at the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

With the TECH4ALL partners at the media roundtable clearly showing what working together with common goals can achieve in practice, Huawei hopes to continue enabling inclusion and sustainability through innovative technologies and long-term partnerships.

Sangfor Named as a Representative Vendor for HCIS

Sangfor is also pleased to announce that it has been named as a Representative Vendor in the recently published Gartner Market Guide for Integrated Systems[2] for its Hyperconverged Infrastructure solution – Sangfor HCI.

What are Integrated Systems (IS)?

Integrated systems refer to a type of computing infrastructure that consists of preconfigured hardware and software components bundled together in a single stack. These systems combine servers, storage devices, network components, and management software, which work together seamlessly to provide a unified platform for managing data and applications.

One of the primary benefits of integrated systems is that they simplify the deployment, management, and maintenance of IT infrastructure. Organizations can avoid the complexity and cost associated with building and managing separate components. With an integrated system, they can achieve faster time-to-value, improved scalability, higher performance, and better reliability and availability.

Integrated Systems can further be divided into four segments:

  • Integrated Infrastructure System (IIS)
  • Integrated Reference Architecture (IRA)
  • Integrated Stack System (ISS)
  • Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)

The HCI segment is further divided into:

  • Hyperconverged Integrated Systems (HCIS)
  • Hyperconverged Software

Sangfor Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI)

Sangfor HCI is a full-stack HCI software solution that can be deployed as an HCIS with Sangfor’s aServer appliance or as a software-only solution on commercially available x86 servers.

Sangfor HCI leverages the world’s most advanced virtualization technology to converge compute, storage, networking, and management into a unified software stack, delivering an agile, simple, resilient, and scalable software-defined data center. As a leading cybersecurity vendor, Sangfor is also the first HCI provider to virtualize proprietary security capabilities into its HCI software to provide robust infrastructure and data security.

Key Points Sangfor has Identified in the
Gartner Market Guide[2]

How Sangfor HCI Satisfies These Key Points

“More solutions are now starting to integrate
one-touch upgrades for the entire stack, as
well as providing automation interfaces that
operate at a stack level, rather than on each
individual component of the stack.”

Sangfor HCI can help customers realize one-
click upgrade of their infrastructure on
Sangfor Cloud Platform.

“Prepare for future infrastructure needs by
prioritizing selection of IS vendors and
products that integrate with public cloud
environments.”

Sangfor HCI supports integration with
Amazon Web Services (AWS) in a hybrid cloud
solution. This hybrid cloud solution
provides unified management of both
environments to help customers transition
smoothly to hybrid or multi-cloud environments.

“When evaluating HCIS, I&O leaders must
determine whether vendors support
independent scaling of storage and compute.
They must also understand any limitations or
restrictions to independent scaling.

A highly scalable Sangfor HCI platform allows
you to invest in what’s needed for your
enterprise at any time with the option to
expand or minimize at any point.

“Several HCIS vendors now support external
access to storage in the HCIS cluster through
block- and file-level interfaces. Some vendors
are delivering mesh style architectures where
storage resources can be shared between
clusters.”

Apart from HCI’s storage virtualization
(aSAN), Sangfor also provides block, file, and
object storage through aStor, a software-
defined storage solution that adopts a fully
symmetric distributed architecture to enable
the allocation of different storage resources.

“Utilize low-cost HCI and HCIS solutions at the
edge, but ensure that management and
orchestration features are designed for a
distributed environment.”

Sangfor Nano Cloud is specially designed for
small to medium-sized enterprises and edge
scenarios, fitted with different feature
packages that can be chosen based on the
user’s  specific needs.

Sangfor HCI supports a range of digital transformation use cases for organizations across all industries, including data center consolidation, cloud transformation, mission-critical application hosting, hybrid cloud, virtual desktop infrastructure, distributed storage, continuous data protection (CDP), and disaster recovery

Sangfor HCI is trusted by more than 10,000 customers worldwide, including Fortune Global 500 companies, government organizations, financial institutions, universities, and hospitals. It has received numerous industry recognitions from reputable global analyst firms, such as a Representative Vendor in the 2023 Gartner Market Guide for Full-Stack Hyperconverged Infrastructure Software[3], a Representative Vendor in the 2022 Gartner Market Guide for Server Virtualization[4], and a Sample Vendor in the Gartner Hype Cycle™ for Storage and Data Protection Technologies, 2022[5]

“The ability to brand the aligner package, pouch, and aligner case with our practice logo allowed us to provide the patient with a unique, personalized experience,” says Dr. Kevin Oliviera from Coastal Orthodontics, a member of the pilot group that trialed the customized items. “When a patient is presented with a custom-branded package, it reinforces the value of receiving a high-quality aligner that was designed by someone they know and trust. Dr. Oliviera also notes that the branded items are giving his/her practice much more visibility in the community. “They are terrific marketing tools that distinguish us from other practices.”

Orthodontists develop long-term relationships over the course of their career with the communities where they practice, even treating several generations of families.  “At uLab, we believe it’s more important that our customers promote their brand rather than the manufacturer’s,” says Amir Abolfathi, chief executive officer and co-founder of uLab.  “It is the orthodontist’s expertise and their patient care that help create beautiful smiles. uLab provides them with the innovative software tools and proven materials they need to develop an effective treatment, but it is ultimately up to them to create the smiles. Their brand and expertise are what patients should associate with quality results.”

uLab is dedicated to innovating for the orthodontic specialty, providing practitioners with easy access to innovative, state-of-the-art tools that enable the flexibility to control the patient treatment plan, unencumbered by pricing structure confines and restrictive protocols. The company has delivered on that commitment since its inception with the release of its in-office aligner design and printing software, uSmile aligners, the uAssist concierge service, and now its custom packaging capabilities. uLab has future plans for “all-digital” platform options, enhanced AI-guided planning tools, and features to enable direct print outputs.

The UNIVERSE virtual campus has brought an immersive online learning experience to its visitors. In the 3D campus, teachers and students created their own avatars to interact with one another. They also experienced the platform’s latest features: Thematic Classrooms, a more immersive way to learn specific school subjects, and new teacher management tools, designed to help streamline class management. During the event, ViewSonic also debuted its new UNIVERSE case study in St. Joseph’s R.C. Primary School, showcasing how the platform increases student engagement and collaboration.

Finally, Viewsonic shared more case studies. The Bardwell Primary School in Suffolk improved the digital learning environment with the ViewBoard and myViewBoard solutions; the Heathfield Primary School utilized myViewBoard Manager to help schools’ IT staff manage all ViewBoard displays remotely.

HONG KONG, April 12, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei today officially unveiled Huawei Cloud Stack 8.2 for the Asia-Pacific market at the Huawei Hong Kong and Macau Partner Summit 2023. The theme of this summit is “Grow Together, Win the Future.” This latest version of Huawei Cloud Stack provides trusted cloud-native infrastructure, rich cloud services, and extensive industry know-how. It is designed to help enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region speed up intelligent upgrade. Also, Huawei announced the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Huawei Cloud Stack Innovation Lab.

Huawei Cloud Stack 8.2, The Preferred Choice for Intelligent Upgrade

Huawei Cloud Stack is a trusted on-premises cloud solution. Deployed on-premises, it improves security and compliance. Synchronized with services from the public cloud, it also allows for continuous iteration. Huawei Cloud Stack has been taking three approaches to inspire technological innovation and create new value for more industries:

Three Visions of Huawei Cloud Stack for Innovation
Three Visions of Huawei Cloud Stack for Innovation

Establish Trusted, Resilient Cloud-native Infrastructure

Robust service resilience is key to cloud migration of all workloads. To enhance resilience of cloud infrastructure, Huawei Cloud Stack provides high reliability, diversified computing power, high security, efficient storage, full-mesh networks, and efficient cloud management.

  • We have provided a range of scenario-specific disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including intra-city active-active and cross-region HA solutions, for automated failover. Plus, DR services and fine-grained DR allow tenants to create custom DR policies.
  • We have designed an end-to-end security protection system consisting of one security operations center and seven layers of protection, which transforms passive response to proactive defense. The system also provides more than 100 detection models and over 50 playbooks. 90% of alarms can be closed in minutes.
  • ManageOne, our intelligent cloud management platform, provides comprehensive management capabilities covering services, operations, and maintenance. Its unique multi-level cloud resource pool management architecture is able to match with intricate organizational structures of enterprises.

Offer Rich Cloud Services to Make Innovation Easier

Huawei Cloud Stack shares the same architecture as the Huawei public cloud, so it is able to continuously evolve cloud services and helps customers use the latest cloud services to promote innovation in data, AI, and applications.

  • We have developed ModelArts, an AI development pipeline. It provides a complete set of AI development tools, including data management, data labeling, algorithm development, model training, and inference deployment. It addresses the problem of inefficient AI application development, caused by fragmentation, lots of customization needs, and isolated environments. Plus, ModelArts helps efficiently operationalize AI in a wide range of industries such as mining, meteorological prediction, and biomedicine.
  • GaussDB, MapReduce Service (MRS), and Data Warehouse Service (DWS) are our three major products designed for data innovation. GaussDB is an online transaction processing (OLTP) database product that provides outstanding performance, reliability, and security. It allows customers to move their core databases to a distributed architecture. MRS provides a high-performance, real-time data lake. DWS provides an enterprise-grade data warehouse service that delivers both T+1 online analytical processing (OLAP) and real-time hybrid transaction/analytical processing (HTAP).
  • In terms of application innovation, Cloud Container Engine (CCE), from Huawei Cloud Stack, is 100% compatible with Kubernetes APIs and provides a one-stop O&M platform to monitor and manage application statuses. ROMA Connect can also be used for efficient governance of data, information, and APIs.

Consolidate Extensive Industry Know-how for Shared Excellence

Huawei Cloud Stack has extensive experience enabling cloud transformation of customers in many industries. We have provided professional services and industry-specific solutions by working with partners to help customers move to, use, and manage cloud with ease.

  • We have released more than 30 industry-specific solutions including national AI cloud, national government cloud, and financial cloud solutions. All of these solutions are pre-integrated and verified on the cloud platform and with partners’ applications. These solutions provide an architecture reference for customers in those industries.
  • We have launched more than 70 professional services, covering multiple phases such as top-level design, implementation, and operational excellence. The services share our professional expertise with customers.

Asia-Pacific Huawei Cloud Stack Innovation Lab

To empower local customers and partners to promote innovation for more scenarios, Huawei Cloud Stack has established an Asia-Pacific innovation lab in Hong Kong, China. The innovation lab will be open to customers and partners and will be used for tasks as diverse as software and hardware verification, POC testing, and talent cultivation.

Accelerate Intelligent Upgrade and Unleash Digital Power for Asia-Pacific Enterprises

Huawei Cloud, constantly innovating by sticking to the vision of “Everything As a Service”, has become a brand trusted by global customers. Backed by the extensive customers and partners, we are now the fifth largest cloud vendor in the world, the second largest cloud vendor in China, and the fastest-growing cloud among the top 5 clouds in emerging markets of Asia.

In Indonesia, Huawei Cloud Stack’s hybrid cloud solution helped CT Corp, one of the local leading groups, deploy a customer data platform (CDP), which reduces TCO by 25% and improves overall business performance by 30%.

In Thailand, Huawei Cloud Stack partnered with Siriraj Hospital, one of leading public hospitals in Thailand, to develop a smart hospital, a hospital that infuses tech advances into nine different hospital scenarios, like AI-powered image reading, unmanned drug delivery vehicles, and 5G-based ambulances.

In China, Huawei Cloud Stack helped Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) deploy a financial data lake with more than 4,000 nodes, the most of any lake in the industry. It moved all of ICBC’s mission-critical applications to the cloud, including those for big data risk control and real-time anti-fraud and anti-money laundering detection.

The Asia-Pacific market has seen a blossoming of digital transformation. It has been imperative for enterprises in the market to dive into cloud innovation. Moving forward, Huawei Cloud Stack intends to continue spearheading innovation, staying focused on industry needs, and joining hands with customers and partners to help enterprises in the Asia-Pacific market accelerate intelligent upgrade and light up a digital future.
