Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup has to be one of the most popular smartphone lines in Southeast Asia. The Redmi Note line is even more so thanks to the large display, powerful cameras and large battery life. This year’s new Redmi Note 13 series builds on that ethos with a new focus on delivering unrivalled camera performance with a more chic, modern design.
The new Redmi Note 13 series is spearheaded by the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ sporting the MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra, paired with a triple camera setup with a 200-megapixel main camera sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. Upfront is a 16-megapixel sensor for selfies. The quad-core processor is supplemented by up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage. The Redmi Note 13 Pro follows up closely with the same triple camera and memory setups and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.
Together with these big hitters, Xiaomi also announced the Redmi 13 and Redmi 13 4G – yes, the company did announce a 4G version. The Redmi 13 4G comes with a Snapdragon 685 and sports a 108-megapixel main camera sensor. This is enhanced with an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. The Redmi 13 5G, on the other hand, comes with the same camera setup and a MediaTek Dimensity 6080. Both sport up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal memory.
When it comes to screens, all of the models come with a 6.67-inch display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The only difference is that the Pro and Pro+ come with a 1.5K resolution, CrystalRes AMOLED panel while the Redmi 13 4G and Redmi 13 5G come with an FHD+, regular AMOLED panel. All variants have coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space with support for Dolby Vision. The Pro and Pro+ come with higher 12-bit colour depth and 1800 nits peak brightness.
Battery-wise, the Pro comes with a 5,100 mAh battery supporting 67W Fast charge while the Pro+ comes with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging. The Redmi 13 and Redmi 13 4G, however, come with a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging.

We get a lot of emails (not really) asking us; “we only have MYR 599 maximum to buy a smartphone, what do we buy?”. We sometimes will tell them to just bump their budget up a little bit to afford better, mid-range devices – especially if it is going to be their daily driver. Secondary device? Whatever works if it serves your calling and messaging purposes. What if you only have MYR 599 for a daily driver though? Can you still get a decent daily driver for that kind of money? With Xiaomi, it turns out, you can.
Take the Xiaomi Redmi 12 that was just launched for example. It is worth MYR 599, right on your budget. If you plan to get it at its launch (15th of July 2023), it will be MYR 100 below your budget too at MYR 499. It is an entry-level device but comes with everything you need in a daily driver device.

For starters, it packs MediaTek’s Helio G88 system on a chip (SoC) that clocks in at 2.0GHz. While the Helio G88 is not the most powerful processor you can find on an Android device, it is still no slouch when it comes to daily tasking and multitasking, especially with memory extension capabilities. You get up to 8GB of RAM with the device, enough to take on anything you might want to throw at it. With memory expansion, you will get more than 8GB of RAM to play with too for even better multitasking capabilities.
You also get up to 256GB of storage with it to store all kinds of things like your photos and videos. If that is not enough, you get to expand the storage to up to 1TB with a MicroSD card. You want this kind of storage for the kind of camera you get on the device.
You get a 50-Megapixel main shooter out the back of the device. Alongside the main camera is an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide camera and 2-Megapixel macro camera. The camera app on the device also offers seven different filmCamera filters that offer a different kind of photographic experience and creative choices. If you do take plenty of photos in 50-Megapixel, you will fill up the storage quickly.

If you are taking plenty of photos, you also want a large battery for it. The Redmi 12 comes with 5,000mAh of battery capacity. They say that the large battery can offer 23 days of standby time, 133 hours of music playback, 26 hours of online reading or 16 hours of continuous video playback. Your video is played on a high-resolution Full HD+ DotDisplay with 90Hz refresh rate measuring 6.79-inch. You can watch and read on the display for a long time as well with their low blue-light mode and Reading Mode 3.0 that protects your eyes at the same time.
Of course, it comes with everything you need in a daily driver like water resistance rating at IP 53. At 8.17mm, it is thin enough to be a regular mid-range or look like a flagship device. Unlike most flagship and mid-range smartphones, the Redmi 12 still offers you the convenience of a 3.5mm AUX combo jack. Its USB Type-C port also supports 18W of fast charging.
Price and Availability
The Xiaomi Redmi 12 is available in Midnight Black, Sky Blur, and Polar Silver colour options. As mentioned, prices start at MYR 599 (4GB + 128GB). It will be available 15th of July 2023 from authorised Xiaomi Stores, including official online stores at Shopee and Lazada. As mentioned earlier, if you do get it on the first sale date, you can get your Xiaomi Redmi 12 smartphone for MYR 499. For more information on the Xiaomi Redmi 12, you can head out to their website.
Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup has long been one of the most affordable smartphones available on the market. With the Redmi Note 11 series, the lineup took a step closer to bringing flagship-class specs with its 108-megapixel camera. This year, the series inches even closer with a 200-megapixel camera and high-performance display.
The new series comes with three entries – for now. Spearheading the lineup is the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G which comes with a 200-megapixel camera and the MediaTek Dimensity 1080. The Note 12 Pro+ 5G also comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage and runs on Android 12 with MIUI 14. On the entry-level side of things is the Redmi Note 12 without 5G which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage and comes with a 50-megapixel camera. Sitting right in the middle of the lineup is the Redmi Note 12 5G which comes with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. It comes with a 48-megapixel camera and up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal space.
The hallmark of the new lineup is the 200-megapixel sensor which comes as the main sensor on the Pro+. This main sensor is complemented by an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front of the Pro+ is a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The Pro+ comes with a 6.67-inch FHD+ Flow AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 900 nits peak brightness and Dolby Vision support. The Pro+ is also the only one in the lineup which comes with a dual-curved design making it more ergonomic.
The Redmi Note 12 5G’s 48-megapixel sensor is complemented by 8-megapixel ultrawide and 2-megapixel macro sensors. It comes with a 13-megapixel on the front. Display-wise it comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED DotDisplay with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,200 nits peak brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The 5G version of the Redmi Note 12 comes with a curved back.
The Redmi Note 12 without 5G comes in a completely flat form factor. It has the same camera setup complementing its 50-megapixel sensor and selfie camera as the Redmi Note 12 5G. Even the display is the same. The major differences here are its processor, the lack of 5G connectivity and the 50-megapixel sensor.
The smartphones are IP53 splash and dust resistance certified. Xiaomi has also opted to keep the 3.5mm combo jack and IR blaster. All versions come with side-mounted fingerprint sensors which are embedded into the power button. They also all come with a 5,000mAh battery with 33W Fast Charging. However, Pro+ ups the ante a little bit with 120W HyperCharge.
Pricing & Availability

The official pricing and variants available are listed below.
When HUAWEI and its sister brand started in the world of Windows PCs, we were quite curious. The dawn of smartphones and tablet devices were regarded by many experts as the beginning to the decline of bulky PCs. If you think about it as well, today we rely more on our smartphones than modern PCs.
The reality today is a large contrast to what the experts thought would happen many years ago. Smartphones thrived, which is largely in line with what was being said at the time. Oddly enough, Windows PC and Macs thrived too, there is even the Chromebooks now. All of which also points to the fact that PCs still have their place in the world today. In most cases, you tend to use both devices for differing functions. That is why Xiaomi also came up with the RedmiBook 15.

The RedmiBook 15, to be fair, looks like any other thin and light notebook that came out from any China manufacturers like HONOR and HUAWEI. They all have that same svelte and clean design with minimal branding. You can probably only see the branding on the cover of the laptop and the bottom of the display. Even the cover shell branding is rather subtle on the RedmiBook 15.
As its name suggests, it is a 15-incher notebook. Specifically, you get a 15.6-inch display that boasts up to 1,920 by 1,080 pixels in resolution. It is an anti-glare display with flicker-free technology to protect your eyes. Of course, sitting atop the display is a 720p webcam, nothing too special or surprising there.
The Microsoft Windows 11 machine is powered by Intel’s 11th Generation Core processors. There is no Core i7 model here though, you only get up to a Core i5. We presume that it is because they might want to keep costs low. Storage wise, you get up to 512GB in SSD storage paired with up to 8GB of DDR4 RAM. Graphics is handled by Intel’s UHD Graphics. All of these are kept running for up to 10 hours at a time with a 46Whr internal battery.
Yes, to be fair, there is nothing much to shout about here. Intel’s 12th Generation Core processors are gracing the field now. The UHD Graphics are also a little outdated at this point with Intel’s Iris Xe graphics going on every thin and light you can find in 2022. There is a reason why you might want to get your hands on one of these though, its cost.
Price and Availability
The Intel Core i3 variant of the Xiaomi RedmiBook 15 starts at MYR 2,399 which is not a lot of money to begin with for a Windows 11 machine. If you want to go for the more powerful Core i5 variant, it will set you back MYR 2,799. The Xiaomi RedmiBook 15 will be available 6th June, 2022 onward in all authorised Xiaomi stores nationwide (Malaysia) and on Xiaomi’s official online stores on Shopee and Lazada.
Xiaomi is no stranger to the mobile and tech market. The company has built an empire spanning smartphones to smart home items and it achieved this in a relatively short time. The company emerged and grew in the span of a little over a decade. In fact, Malaysia’s first Xiaomi device was the popular Mi 3. It’s been nearly a decade since – and it looks like things are about to change.
According to a statement to XDA Developers, it looks like Xiaomi will be streamlining its branding. As part of the move, it looks like the “Mi” branding that we know and love is going to be retired. In its statement, the company highlighted that the recently announced MIX 4 was the first device to have its new, streamlined branding.
The move to retire their “MI” branding marks a close in a very important chapter in Xiaomi’s history as it moves to be a more international company from its humble beginnings. Xiaomi’s first product wasn’t a smartphone – it was MIUI, the Android fork that is now a hallmark feature of all its products. Today, the company has become one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world with a smartphone literally built for everyone.
With the retirement of the “Mi” brand, new flagships will come under their “Xiaomi” name. This should bolster the recognition of their brand worldwide. However, Xiaomi now has the task of differentiating itself in a market saturated by so many. In addition, it also has POCO and Redmi under its belt. The two brands are wildly popular in their segments but do little when it comes to Xiaomi’s branding.
Xiaomi now has the behemoth task of maintaining its dominance in the mobile space. The market has always been ruled by big guns like Apple and Samsung. However, just recently, Xiaomi dethroned the companies as the largest OEM in the world.
Xiaomi is known for many things. They are currently one of the most popular names in smart home ecosystem accessories and appliances. But they started as a humble smartphone manufacturer that shook the market with a very memorable and immensely popular Xiaomi Mi 3.
The Xiaomi Mi 3, while a powerhouse back in its day, may not cut it for 2021 though. For 2021, you need something more powerful, something like the Redmi Note 10S from the highly commended Redmi Note 10 series. Welcome to the 64-Megapixel experience of the Redmi Note 10S.
Immersive and Impressive
Source: Xiaomi
The device first greets you with a beautiful 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED DotDisplay screen at the front with a punch-hole to house a 13-Megapixel selfie camera. The 20:9 ratio display boasts a bezel-less design too for a properly immersive and optimal viewing experience. With Dual speakers at the top and bottom of the device, the Redmi Note 10S offers an immersive experience like no other in its class.
Clean Cut, Stunning Looks
Source: Xiaomi
You do not unlock the device like any other device of its class too. The Arc biometric fingerprint sensor is nestled on the power button housed on the aluminium frame on the sides of the Redmi Note 10S. That also means clean, balanced, and polished look from all sides of the Redmi Note 10S. Covering the back of the device is a beautifully crafted glass backing in three colour choices – Onyx Gray, Pebble White, and Ocean Blue.
An Everyday Powerhouse
Source: Xiaomi
The Android 10 device is powered by a powerful MediaTek Helio G95 System on a Chip (SoC) which is designed with gaming in mind. Serious gamers would also appreciate its 31% GPU performance bump compared to its predecessor. All that power requires a large battery bank though. That is handled by a massive 5,000 mAh battery pack to keep it running for an entire day and more. With 33W of fast charging too, you will not be stuck to a wall socket for too long before getting on your next big adventure again.
Memories in Better Detail
When you talk about adventure, you are also talking about creating memories. In that sense, there is no better way to create memories with tonnes of photos. This is the Redmi Note 10S’ party piece is.
The Redmi Note 10S packs an immensely powerful 64-Megapixel quad camera set up that will capture the best moments of your next adventure. The main 64-Megapixel shooter shoots highly detailed photos that captures the essence of the moment in that photo.

There is an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide camera that captures at 118o. A wider shot also means more object in a photo. You can now include everyone of your group without finding a large space for you to back out to. You can capture more of nature in your adventures. You can take stunning landscape photos and freeze that moment in time forever in the ample 128GB (up to) of storage you have in the Redmi Note 10S.
Ultra-wide
There is also a 2-Megapixel macro camera that allows you to take photos of the finer things in life. You can go into the details of your adventure with the macro lens, taking photos of everything including the sunflower that bloomed right beside your chalet or tent. If there is a butterfly or a bee on the flower, your macro lens could handle the shot and produce clear and detailed image of that moment.

The 64-Megapixel shooter also works as a portrait camera. With the 2-Megapixel depth sensor supporting the main camera, you get better and more accurate depth effect from the camera. You can capture beautiful and highly detailed portrait shots with the Redmi Note 10S, capturing what is important in your adventures – the people you are with.

Xiaomi’s Redmi line-up has been the long serving champion of great value for money smartphones. Okay, I might have exaggerated their position a minute there. But they are really good at what they do; they are really good at making budget friendly smartphones that punches above their weight.
Yesterday they launched the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note10 Pro in Malaysia with prices starting at MYR 799. The new Redmi Note series is, technically, the brand’s most advanced Redmi yet in certain areas.

You get a very powerful and proven Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series in the form of a Snapdragon 732G. Unfortunately, you do not get 5G capabilities with the chipset. Then again, 5G technology has yet to see public daylight in Malaysia at this time.
The Redmi Note 10 Pro more than makes up for it with an ultra-powerful 108-Megapixel main camera though. Yes, it is the same 108-Megapixel sensor that the Xiaomi Mi11 gets. You also get the enhanced Night Mode 2.0 for even better low-light shooting capabilities with the high-resolution camera. That added with the dual native ISO nature of the sensor means you can really take this device to the night. The 108-Megapixel camera also comes with an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 5-Megapixel telemacro sensor, and a 2-Megapixel depth sensor to make it even more versatile.
You also get the Note 10 Pro with 120Hz AMOLED display. This makes this mid-ranger one of the most unique smartphones in the market. You seldom see 120Hz refresh rates in smartphones at this price, at this range. The 6.67-inch Full HD AMOLED display boasts Full HD+ and is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Of course, all that power needs a lot of electricity to keep it going. That is where the 5,020mAh battery comes in to ensure you get a whole day of running time. You can get the battery charged quickly too at 33W.

The Redmi Note 10 is a little less impressive with 6.43-inch AMOLED DotDisplay taking up its front. But you still get 33W charging on the impressive 5,000mAh battery. You also still get dual speakers similar to the Redmi Note 10 Pro with Hi-Res Audio certification for immersive audio.
The Processor is a step down from the Redmi Note10 as well at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 678. The System on a Chip (SoC) is still no slouch though. You can still play modern mobile games with it with no issues.
On the camera front, while not as impressive as the 108-Megapixel main camera flanked by three other cameras, the Redmi Note 10 still has four cameras packed into the rear section of the device. You get a 48-Megapixel main shooter, which is still relevant today, an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide shooter, a 2-Megapixel macro sensor, and a 2-Megapixel depth sensor.
Redmi Note 10S
Want a higher-resolution camera without breaking your bank with the high-end Redmi Note 10 Pro? There is the in-between model that is the Redmi Note 10S.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S features a 64-Megapixel main shooter that is flanked by an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide sensor, a 2-Megapixel macro camera, and another 2-Megapixel depth camera. You can see a pattern emerging here. The 64-Megapixel sensor though should be able to give you super clear, super pretty photos out-of-the-box.
You are not getting a Qualcomm Snapdragon to boot here though. You are getting a MediaTek Helio G95 SoC to work with. The MediaTek Helio G95 is proven to be a potent and capable processor in mobile gaming, so you should not be left wanting more.
You also get 5,000mAh battery packed in its body for all-day battery and even more. If that is not enough, the battery charges at up to 33W too for a quick trip to the sockets.
Redmi Note 10 5G
If you want to take advantage of 5G networking when its available then you have to look at the 5G variant of the new Xiaomi Redmi Note series. It is the only Redmi Note series that is powered by MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 700 with 5G capabilities. There are some compromises on this device though.
For one, you get one less camera. You still get a high-resolution 48-Megapixel main camera to work with. But you are only getting two other cameras besides. You get a 2-Megapixel macro sensor and another 2-Megapixel depth sensor. You also lose out on the front camera at 8-Megapixel compared to 13 (10 and 10S) and 16 (10 Pro).
You do get a bigger display though at 6.5-inch. You also get an impressive 90Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate that will optimise itself to keep your device lasting as long as it can on a single charge. You also get a 5,000mAh battery for an impressive battery life. Although, you only get up to 18 in charging speed.

Xiaomi is at it again. Hot off the company’s announcement of their Mi 11 flagship, the company is announcing not one, but two, entry-level devices which make up their new entry-level line up: the Redmi 9T and the Redmi Note 9T. Both come with specifications that make them contenders for your attention if you are looking to purchase a smartphone on the cheap.
Redmi 9T – A non-5G Device for the in-between
Not all devices need to be 5G enabled – that is a truth that is hard to deny as we are squarely in the transitional time between 4G LTE and 5G. Xiaomi is acutely aware of this and continues to provide options for their consumers. The Redmi 9T is the latest in their 4G LTE devices.
The Redmi 9T comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662. The Octa-core processor comes with 4 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and a supplemental 4 cores at 1.8GHz. The processor is complemented with the Adreno 610 graphics processor. The combination of which should be able to handle most, if not all, tasks that you can throw at it. In fact, it should be able to handle most high-end games (you’ll have to wait on our review for a full breakdown).
Complementing the formidable internals of the Redmi 9T is a 6.53-inch IPS LCD panel sporting a Full HD+. The display comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It should be large enough to provide a sufficiently immersive experience. It comes with ample space coming in both 64GB and 128GB. This is complemented with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM.
On the camera front, the main camera setup of the Redmi 9T is a quad-camera setup. The main sensor is a 48-megapixel sensor with a 1/20-inch sensor size and 0.8µm pixel size. It has an f/1.8 aperture and wide-angle with 26mm focal length; equipped with phase detection auto-focus (PDAF). This sensor is complemented with a 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor; and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Up front is an 8-megapixel wide sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
Redmi Note 9T – MediaTek Powered 5G
Together with the Redmi 9T, Xiaomi also announced their new entry to the Redmi Note series: the Redmi Note 9T. The new entry to the Redmi Note is also the first commercially available smartphone running on the new MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor. The new processor is an entry level processor equipped with 5G technology. It comes with 2-cores clocked at 2.4GHz complemented with 6-cores clocked at 1.8GHz. 4GB of RAM complements the processor in addition to 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
The Redmi Note 9T comes equipped with a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a 5,000mAh lithium polymer battery which supports 18W fast charging.
On the camera front, the Redmi Note 9T is equipped with a triple sensor main camera setup. It comes with the same 48-megapixel sensor found on the Redmi 9T complemented with a 2-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel depth sensor. Up front is a 13-megapixel sensor with an f/2.3 aperture.
