The Royal Thai Police, Supported By ACE, Shut Down Major Torrent Website

Simultaneous raids take place in Bangkok, Surin Province and Surat Thani.

BANGKOK , Feb. 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Royal Thai Police’s Economic Crimes Department (ECD), with support from the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), has raided four locations in Bangkok, Surin Province and Surat Thani. Four Thai nationals have been taken into custody and are expected to be formally charged with copyright offenses in the coming days.

Siambit.me was the largest torrent tracker site in Thailand with average monthly visits of 5.5 million, and which provided access to a huge range of Hollywood, International and Thai content. The site had been in operation since 2005 and is known to regularly change its domain to avoid detection. According to statements by the Royal Thai Police, Siambit.me had over 100,000 VIP members and the operators were making an estimated 1.5 million baht (USD$41,000) on a monthly basis.

“We commend the ECD for their continued collaboration with ACE and for taking enforcement action against this large torrent site,” said Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the Motion Picture Association and Head of ACE. “Illicit torrent sites put consumers around the world at risk of unwittingly downloading malware such as spyware, remote access trojans and even ransomware. The ECD’s action helps protect the livelihood of Thai and international creators and distributors, and it helps shield consumers from such malware.”

Suebsiri Taweepon, President of the Intellectual Property Association of Thailand (IPAT), said, “We would like to commend the professionalism of the ECD and ACE in taking down this large torrent tracker site. Piracy sites such as Siambit undermine local and international investment in our country’s content sector, reduce tax contributions to the government, and stifle creativity.”

CGTN:China makes new pledges to help developing countries defeat COVID-19

BEIJING, May 22, 2021China on Friday announced several new measures to help developing countries tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and its sweeping impacts, pledging to contribute $3 billion in the next three years and provide more vaccines.

Addressing the Global Health Summit via video link, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the world’s leading economies to remedy deficiencies, close loopholes and strengthen weak links in fighting "the most serious pandemic in a century."

The summit was co-hosted by the European Commission and Italy, chair of the Group of 20 (G20) this year.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide has surpassed 165 million, with more than 3.4 million deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

‘Close the immunization gap’

"A year ago, I proposed that vaccines should be made a global public good," Xi said. "Today, the problem of uneven vaccination has become more acute."

More than 1.1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered globally, but over 80 percent of those were administered in high and upper-middle income countries, with just 0.3 percent of inoculations taking place in low-income countries, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said earlier this month.

China has supplied 300 million doses of vaccines to the world; it has provided free vaccines to more than 80 developing countries in urgent need and exported vaccines to 43 countries, Xi noted, adding that China will provide more vaccines to the best of its ability.

China supports its vaccine companies in transferring technologies to other developing countries and carrying out joint production with them, he said.

Reaffirming China’s support for waiving intellectual property rights on COVID-19 vaccines, he said the country "supports the World Trade Organization and other international institutions in making an early decision on this matter."

He raised a proposal for setting up an international forum on vaccine cooperation to promote fair and equitable distribution of vaccines around the world.

"We must uphold fairness and equity as we strive to close the immunization gap," Xi stressed. "It is imperative for us to reject vaccine nationalism and find solutions to issues concerning the production capacity and distribution of vaccines, in order to make vaccines more accessible and affordable in developing countries."

More financial support

China has already provided $2 billion to help with developing countries’ responses to COVID-19; it has sent medical supplies to more than 150 countries and 13 international organizations, providing more than 280 billion masks, 3.4 billion protective suits and four billion testing kits to the world, according to Xi.

"China will provide an additional $3 billion in international aid over the next three years to support COVID-19 response and economic and social recovery in other developing countries," he announced.

Xi, the leader of the world’s largest developing country, mentioned "developing countries" 11 times in a speech that lasted less than seven minutes, calling on G20 members to do more to help them and address their concerns.

"China is fully implementing the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative for Poorest Countries and has so far put off debt repayment exceeding $1.3 billion, the highest deferral amount among G20 members," he said.

It is essential that G20 members continue to support developing countries by such means as debt suspension and development aid, said the Chinese president.

Xi went further to call for improvement in the global governance system. G20 countries should strengthen and leverage the role of the United Nations and the WHO and improve the global disease prevention and control system, the Chinese president said.

"It is important that we uphold the spirit of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, fully heed the views of developing countries, and better reflect their legitimate concerns," he added.

Xi repeated his call for solidarity and cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and building a global community of health for all.

"The pandemic is yet another reminder that we, humanity, rise and fall together with a shared future," he said. "We must champion the vision of building a global community of health for all, tide over this trying time through solidarity and cooperation, and firmly reject any attempt to politicize, label or stigmatize the virus."

Global Security Industry to be Powered by Rising Need for Niche Security Solutions and Rapid Advancements in Technology

The demand for surveillance technologies such as security cameras and advanced electro-optics, video analytics, RADAR, and LIDARs to intensify, reveals Frost & Sullivan

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 17, 2021 — Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Digitization and Advanced Analytics Power the Global Security Industry, finds that threats posed by the proliferation of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), frictionless borders, and integrated border stations will expand this industry worldwide. Segmented into three categories—critical national infrastructure (CNI), public safety, and border security—this market is estimated to garner $230.79 billion in revenues by 2030 from $172.4 billion in 2020, an uptick of 3%. Public safety will lead the growth, securing 72.8% market share and generating the highest revenue as the pandemic has led disaster and emergency management forces to spend significantly on situational awareness systems.

For further information on this analysis, please visit: http://frost.ly/5fi

"While the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily paused the industry, key investment areas remain unchanged. It opened new avenues of security spending in terms of pandemic response and public safety for the long and short terms," said Himanshu Garg, Industry Principal, Aerospace, Defense & Security Practice at Frost & Sullivan. "Escalating need for niche security solutions, rapid advancements in technology, and budget pressures will drive the industry to innovative revenue models to capture opportunities."

Garg added: "The increasing number of identity theft incidents and security leaks has accelerated the adoption of biometric technology for identity and access control across CNI, public safety, and border security applications. This has further emphasized the deployment of surveillance technologies. As a result, the demand for security cameras and advanced electro-optics, video analytics, RADAR, LIDARs, wearables, and sophisticated sensors is likely to inflate significantly over the forecast period."

To tap the imminent market potential, participants should consider:

  • Adopting biometric technology for identity and access control, such as facial biometrics in airports, metros, and other public places.
  • Screening and detection growth opportunities, especially at airports and checkpoints. Create measures that improve safety while reducing the screening time.
  • Developing evolving technologies, such as behavioral analytics, for tremendous scope in the security industry because analytics has changed the overall dimension of security systems being deployed and used.
  • Focusing on modern-day emergency management, which relies on end-to-end collaboration, communication, and real-time information sharing between various stakeholders, with opportunities in integrating various emergency communications.
  • Countering evolving threats such as usage of driverless cars, autonomous drones, etc., as weapons of mass destruction. Law enforcement agencies seek counter-UAS to detect and neutralize unmanned aerial threats and remote weapon stations to guard borders without endangering lives.

Digitization and Advanced Analytics Power the Global Security Industry is the latest addition to Frost & Sullivan’s Aerospace, Defense & Security research and analyses available through the Frost & Sullivan Leadership Council, which helps organizations identify a continuous flow of growth opportunities to succeed in an unpredictable future.

Irish Technology deployed in South Africa as part of International Music Events re-opening

DUBLIN, Dec. 23, 2020 — Irish-based Health Passport Europe has partnered with Big Concerts and The Entertainment Group to safely re-open the events industry in South Africa, using latest developments in rapid COVID-19 testing and the secure Health Passport Europe mobile technology.

The Health Passport Europe digital platform was deployed at this year’s RECHARGE 2020 event in Cape Town, South Africa, using latest COVID-19 testing and mobile technology as part of the safe re-opening of the live events sector.
The Health Passport Europe digital platform was deployed at this year’s RECHARGE 2020 event in Cape Town, South Africa, using latest COVID-19 testing and mobile technology as part of the safe re-opening of the live events sector.

The live event RECHARGE 2020 took place on December 21st in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Grand Café & Beach venue, with multiple live acts and DJs. The event passed off safely to represent an important stepping-stone towards a wider reopening of live events in 2021.

The platform, which efficiently supports COVID-19 vaccinations and testing, is set to be deployed at events in Italy and Portugal, where the system can be used to safely re-open the tourist sector.

How Health Passport Europe Works

Ahead of the RECHARGE 2020 event, all attendees including staff were required to download and set up the Health Passport Europe mobile app for free. On the day of the event, everyone was tested for COVID-19 before entering, using latest rapid antigen tests that are already validated for use in South Africa.

All staff, performers and guests were tested before the event. Multiple positive detections were successfully made during pre-testing. Anyone who tested positive was not permitted onto the event site but was given professional medical advice.

Within 20 minutes of testing, the results are updated privately and securely to the person’s Health Passport Europe app. At entry, security staff were able to quickly scan the person’s ticket and the person’s Health Passport Europe app, and only those with a negative COVID-19 test were allowed into the venue, ensuring the lowest levels of transmission risk for all. COVID-19 health guidelines were also followed by all within the event site.

People who presented for pre-testing who had COVID-19 symptoms were not tested but instead advised to follow national health guidelines.

Justin Van Wyk, CEO of Big Concerts said: "This was an important moment for the events industry which has been devastated by the pandemic. Using the Health Passport Europe platform allowed this event to proceed with the highest levels of risk mitigation, demonstrating the way forward for live events globally. The system allowed us to offer pre- and post-event testing for maximum reassurance, protecting attendees, performers and everyone connected with the event."

Robert Quirke, founder of Health Passport Europe, said: "Our team is excited and humbled to have worked on this project for Cape Town and to have contributed to the safe reopening of international entertainment and tourism. The secure technology is engineered to work with all official COVID-19 tests and vaccinations. Many thousands of people are already using the mobile system and it is helping industries to return."

The Health Passport Europe platform has been adopted by many leading medical and pharmacy organisations that are providing COVID-19 testing services. The technology has passed all trials and development, having been extensively tested across a range of industries including healthcare, logistics, hospitality, education, and nursing homes, as well as a trial at Dublin Airport.

The process has already been engineered to safely test over 100,000 people within 10 hours, with the results, travel certificates or vaccination documents immediately uploaded within the person’s app.

The Health Passport Europe system has been engineered as a secure system for people to store and display their official COVID-19 vaccination or test status. It is a common international platform for all industries and the public.

PT. ALTO Network Partners with INETCO to Secure Indonesia’s National Payment Gateway

INETCO’s real-time payment fraud detection platform increases the security of every end-to-end payment transaction

VANCOUVER, Canada, Dec. 3, 2020 — INETCO Systems Limited, a leader in real-time payment fraud prevention, today announced that PT. ALTO Network (ALTO), a National Payment Gateway for Indonesia, has chosen the INETCO Insight software to deliver world-class performance and security monitoring. This partnership further supports the National Non-Cash Movement and Bank Indonesia’s National Payment System vision.

ALTO is Indonesia’s leading provider of end-to-end payment switching and digital banking solutions. Licensed by Bank Indonesia as the institution that implements the National Payment Gateway (GPN) to uphold the interconnection and interoperability of Indonesia’s national payment system. Providing services to 40+ issuing and acquiring member banks, ALTO connects to 100,000+ automated teller machines (ATMs) and 1,000,000+ electronic data capture (EDC) machines across Indonesia. In September 2020, ALTO announced a partnership with Visa for domestic debit-card transaction processing. ALTO implemented the INETCO Insight payment monitoring and analytics platform to comply with Visa security regulations and guarantee the stability and safety of every end-to-end payment transaction.

"Payment fraud is greatly under regulated in Indonesia," said Patricco Baron, CTO at PT. ALTO Network. "Together, with world-class partners such as INETCO, we can actively work to prevent card present and card-not-present fraud attacks. We want to make customers feel safe when it comes to digital payment migration and help our member banks protect themselves against financial loss and a tarnished reputation – neither of which can be easily recovered."

The ALTO fraud risk team relies on INETCO Insight to identify and analyze transaction-level payment fraud attacks in milliseconds – before major financial loss, customer risk or reputational harm occurs. The round trip performance of every domestic ATM, debit and inter-bank funds transfer transaction is correlated and profiled in real-time, giving ALTO complete visibility across 120+ links that include:

  • From every issuing and acquiring member bank to the ALTO Retail Payment Solution (RPS) switch
  • From the ALTO RPS switch to the host authorization points

In addition to visibility across the end-to-end payment journey, INETCO Insight decodes all protocol message fields contained within each transaction, including message types, card numbers, amounts, transaction dates and times, response codes, terminal IDs and ISO 8583 messages. These are the data fields that the ALTO fraud risk team uses to meet Visa security requirements, and to feed proactive rules-based alerts, fraud analytics, predictive machine learning models and real-time risk scoring for each individual customer – instantly updated every time a transaction occurs.

"INETCO is dedicated to helping ALTO deliver world-class payment security and service excellence to all their member banks and customers," says Bijan Sanii, CEO of INETCO. "We have a proven track record of increasing the safety and stability of payment transactions, and are excited by the opportunity to drive financial inclusion and the adoption of non-cash payments across Indonesia."

You can read the full ALTO case study here.

It Pays to Protect Yourself

"When it comes to financial fraud, such as account takeover, banks are on your side," said Liz Lasher, vice president of Fraud, Financial Crime and Cyber Risk Portfolio Marketing at FICO. "However, prevention is critical, particularly when it comes to identity theft, because the clean-up can be quite difficult and messy, and recovering stolen funds can be a tedious, months-long process.

"Credit card fraud is more quickly resolved, but you may still have to go through the hassle of having transactions declined and filing a fraud claim with your bank or card provider. At the other end of the spectrum, scams, or as the industry calls it ‘authorized push payment fraud’ can have traumatic, long-term effects. It occurs when you, the consumer, approve a transaction, and you are most often held liable for the payment. In this instance, banks will not always foot the bill for damages.

"To reduce your risk of being a victim of any of these crimes, here are my five top tips to protect yourself against fraud this holiday season."

Tip : Revisit Your Password Habits

We’ve all pretty aware of the concept of strong passwords, mixing lowercase letters, capitals, numbers and symbols. But let me challenge you change your thinking, because it turns out that long passwords are even more important than strong passwords. The length and strength of a password, combined, is the strongest deterrent to a hacker cracking your password with brute-force computing power.

It’s also important is to use a unique password for each of your accounts, particularly important ones—not just bank and brokerage accounts, but PayPal, Gmail and Amazon, everything! I can’t overemphasize the effectiveness – and elegant simplicity – of browse-based password managers that suggest randomized long, strong passwords, and manage them for you.

Tip : Take Advantage of Authentication Features

I highly recommend using any additional authentication capabilities offered by apps and websites you visit frequently; they’re a second layer of protection to make sure you’re really you. The easiest type to use is a one-time passcode, which can be texted or emailed to you.

Face biometrics are increasingly popular, too, particularly for banking and financial apps. If an app has a face biometrics capability (like Face ID on the iPhone), use it. You may run across someone who thinks you shouldn’t use face authentication because then the government will have your picture and personal information. This was the subject of a recent meme, the punch line of which said, ‘Wait until [this guy] finds out about driver licenses.’ Very funny, but in all seriousness, face biometrics and voice biometric authentication are a growing part of a multi-prong approach to increasing the security around your accounts.

Tip #3: Use Trusted Payment Methods

New payment apps are cool, but be careful. Do your research, read the reviews, and check Google carefully to see if the app is a scam. If in doubt, use ApplePay, PayPal, or another payment app you know and trust.

If you’re sending cash from your online or mobile banking app, and you need to send money to a new recipient, do a test transaction with a small amount of money and ask that person to confirm they got it. I did this the other day when I was paying someone to inspect my house for termites. It was a $100 inspection, but I was worried I’d type in the wrong phone number and send $100 to the wrong person. We did a $1 test transaction together to make sure I got his information correct.

Tip #4: Be Skeptical

It’s the giving season—during a pandemic—which multiplies the opportunities for fraudsters to try to scam you. Although GoFundMe states that "the overwhelming majority of fundraisers on our platform are safe and legitimate," scams do happen there and many other places. Unfortunately, not every scam is identified and prosecuted; unless you personally know the person or family benefiting from a contribution, or can verify that the recipient’s identity and need, think twice (hard) before you donate.

To protect yourself from charity and disaster fraud (such as relief funds that spring up after hurricanes and wildfires), make sure the donation website is legitimate. It’s very easy for criminals to create lookalike websites that siphon off credit card and personal information, which can then be quickly used to run up fraudulent transactions. The FBI has a very useful tip sheet to help you spot fake charity and disaster sites.

Tip #5: Monitor Your Credit Report

Everyone––and I mean everyone––needs to monitor their credit reports. Not just to stay informed about credit history, but also a proxy for early indication of fraud such as identity theft. If you have young children, or take care of your elderly members of your family, or don’t expect needing credit yourself anytime soon, you can also consider freezing your credit. This will also freeze all of the accounts associated with your identity.

At the very least, periodically reviewing credit reports will help you find out if anything strange or unexpected is happening. Nipping identity theft or credit misuse in the bud could help you avoid losing a few dollars or a large sum of money, as well as well as having to rebuild your credit health.

VEVEY, Switzerland, Nov. 13, 2020 — On November 13th, 2020, AlpVision is launching the "AlpVision COVID-19 Initiative" helping pharmaceutical companies to protect COVID-19 relevant medicines against counterfeiting.

COVID-19 has caused not only a worldwide health crisis, but also created unprecedented economic challenges. In response, AlpVision has decided to launch the "AlpVision COVID-19 Initiative". The initiative supports pharmaceutical companies by providing them for free with the necessary tools to protect COVID-19 relevant medicines and vaccines against counterfeiting.

To do so, AlpVision will provide pharmaceutical companies and their suppliers with all necessary tools to deploy the Cryptoglyph on their packaging. The AlpVision Cryptoglyph is a digital security feature which can be implemented and deployed within just a few weeks. The Cryptoglyph is invisible to the human eye and authentication of a product protected with a Cryptoglyph is done using a regular smartphone. Securing of packaging with a Cryptoglyph is very easy as it neither changes the standard production process, nor requires additional consumables. In addition, the smartphone applications connect to AlpVision’s Brand Monitoring System (BMS), a centralized server platform through which pharmaceutical companies are able to monitor in real-time product authentication activities and gain important insight into counterfeiting activities.

The "AlpVision COVID-19 Initiative" starts on November 13th, 2020, and subscription will run for an initial period of three months. Participating companies will be able to protect their COVID-19 relevant products with zero additional cost for the authentication feature. AlpVision will provide this service gratuitously until the pandemic is officially declared as ended by the World Health Organization. Companies interested in participating in the initiative are invited to contact AlpVision. More information can be found online at www.alpvision.com/Covid/.
