Anycubic Holds Printing Camps with Yale Funbotics to Introduce Children to the World of 3D Printers

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Jan. 7, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Anycubic, a globally-renowned 3D printer company, wrapped up its Anycubic X Yale Funbotics 3D Modeling & Printing Camp on Dec 11. The company’s first education incubation project was held in collaboration with Yale Funbotics, with the aim of introducing 3D printing to children and how to build and use Anycubic 3D printers. The printing camp was also held in July and October and gave children an introduction to the world of 3D printers, an understanding of how a 3D printer works, and a general overview of 3D modeling, slicing, and 3D printer operations.

Introducing 3D printing to students

Inspired by Anycubic’s vision — “For Freedom to Make” — the company’s 3D printing education incubation project was founded in Shenzhen on September 2, 2020. The project embodies Anycubic’s aspiration of helping everyone to achieve the freedom of creation and invention using 3D printing technologies.

The Anycubic X Yale Funbotics 3D Modelling Printing Camps were designed for 4th to 12th-grade students. All the camps ran virtually over Zoom, and each lasted for three days. On the first day, the students were taught to assemble their 3D printers, the Anycubic Kobra, which is auto-leveling and beginner-friendly. After this assembling process, students were able to gain a deeper understanding of how a 3D printer works.

The next day, the printing camp students learned how to model designs in CAD. In this section, mentors guided the students on how to design basic objects, how to slice and print their objects, and helping them solve problems as they came up. By learning how to model more complex items, the children learned that designing is an iterative process and continuous adjusting and troubleshooting is part of the design process.

On the last day, students learned how to slice, print, and troubleshoot their own models. This class showed the children how troubleshooting is part of the design process, and that when a print doesn’t work, it doesn’t constitute a failure but is simply a normal part of learning about 3D printers. This motivated students to try again – tweaking the measurements of the design, adding more support, and adjusting the printing temperature – increasing their satisfaction when the print does eventually work.

The difference that the 3D print camps made for Anycubic and Funbotics

Yale Funbotics is a non-profit organization that was founded to provide the resources, technology, and opportunities for under-represented youth to ignite their passion about STEM. The founder of Yale Funbotics, Pranav Avasarala, said:” Providing 3D printers to these students gave them a new avenue to unleash their imagination and fall in love with STEM. From pencil and phone cases to Harry Potter wands, the kids were thrilled by how much they could create and excited to experiment with new designs.

The Anycubic X Funbotics camps not only introduced and showed young students how much fun STEM is but gave them the opportunity and resources to pursue the field in the future. Funbotics plans to continue our partnership with Anycubic to promote STEM education in underrepresented communities. We are working on adding to the 3D modeling and printing curriculum to teach students how to print, assemble and program their own autonomous robots. We are also opening our Funbotics Lab Centers for students to come and work on their engineering projects. We are incredibly grateful to the Anycubic team – without your support, such a monumental impact would not have been possible.”

“3D printing technology is a powerful learning tool to enhance STEM Teaching and Learning and can involve people in active learning, design thinking, and problem-solving. We are excited to join Funbotics to promote STEM education with the 3D Modeling and Printing Camps. Seeing the students actively engaging in the design process, unleashing their imagination, and completing some real-world product design tasks with 3D printed prototypes makes us think, “3D printing is helping the youth change the world,” said James Ouyang, Vice President of Anycubic. “We have much appreciated the help from Yale Funbtics. These 3D print camps have established an excellent springboard for us to promote the incubation program overseas. We look forward to achieving more success in our future collaboration”.

Polyplastics’ New 3D Printing Technology for DURACON (R) POM Accelerates Product Development Cycle

TOKYO, Sept. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Polyplastics Co., Ltd., a leading global supplier of engineering thermoplastics, has developed three-dimensional (3D) printing technology for production of DURACON (R) polyoxymethylene (POM) products. The technology, known as Material Extrusion (MEX), delivers physical properties close to those of injection-molded articles despite being 3D-printed. Polyplastics will highlight the new 3D printing technology at the upcoming K 2022 exhibition (Hall 7A/B02) which runs October 19-26 in Duesseldorf, Germany.

Photo: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M100475/202209025914/_prw_PI1lg_k57WG1aI.png

The MEX process can also be applied in preliminary evaluations of physical properties, functions, durability, and other properties without needing a mold, thus helping to accelerate the product development cycle. The MEX process is a typical 3D printing technology that uses thermoplastic resin materials. With resin filaments as the material input, this method produces 3D structures by repeatedly tracing and layering while depositing a melted material extruded through a tiny nozzle. Typically, only amorphous resins or resins with low crystallinity (e.g., ABS, polyamide) had been suitable for use in the MEX 3D printing process. POM’s high crystallinity and rapid rate of crystallization have made it unsuitable for use in the MEX 3D printing process.

To address POM’s limitations, Polyplastics’ MEX 3D printing technology combines a more appropriate selection of POM grades with printing conditions optimized for their crystallization behavior. In addition to accelerating the product development cycle, the MEX technology could also be targeted for low-volume manufacturing of custom products.

Polyplastics is seeking a patent for the DURACON (R) POM 3D printing technology and at the same time the company is developing additional DURACON (R) POM filament materials for use in 3D printing, including reinforced grades. The company is also accepting requests for actual product trial samples.

XYZprinting Showcases Innovative 3D Printers with Open Platform Fast Cycle Sintering at IMTS 2022

NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan, Sept. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Illinois-3D printing leader XYZprinting will showcase their SLS printing machines with Open Platform Fast Cycle Sintering at IMTS 2022 in Chicago (12-17 September), including the MfgPro236 xS’, the ideal choice for on-demand manufacturers, research institutions, and third-party material suppliers. Thanks to its high printing speed of up to 22 mm per hour and shorter cooling and breakout times, the MfgPro236 xS can deliver high-quality parts fast.

XYZprinting_MfgPro236 xS
XYZprinting_MfgPro236 xS

XYZprinting SLS machines offer something others do not: the ability to use end-of-life powder from peer machines for high-quality parts. On top of the operational sustainability, the smaller build volume of the 236 allows for a 22-hour complete build cycle that only requires a 2-hour cooling cycle with zero negative effect on part accuracy or surface quality.

“The adoption of the smaller platform for high daily throughput is a game changer. Our customers have options for an expedited two business day turn-around in their 3D Printing Service, these machines allow them to print more of the expedited jobs, and the print quality is as good as any printer in the market.”  Says XYZprinting Director for America’s Industrial Printers, John Calhoun,

Environmentally friendly 3D printing solution
Despite the advantages SLS 3D printing provides over other manufacturing technologies, many of these machines can be wasteful. Service bureaus with more than five large-format SLS or MJF machines face a storage dilemma for waste powder.

XYZprinting has a different approach, leveraging high-performance smaller build volume SLS machines that print with high part quality while producing less waste; end-of-life or waste powder on a large-format SLS machine can be mixed with 20-30% fresh XYZprinting powder and get great results, all within an affordable open platform system. An open platform system allows users to decide which powder they want to utilize and purchase from any material supplier.

JawsTec Purchases 4 XYZprinting SLS Machines
JawsTec, a premier US-based printing service that offers custom, rapid manufacturing for every industry, adds 4 XYZprinting MfgPro230 xS SLS machines to its MJF, EOS, AMT, Dyemansion, and CNC machines this July. XYZprinting Director for America’s Industrial Printers, John Calhoun, makes the point: “JawsTec spent two months testing the reliability, accuracy, quality of parts, software and workflow integration. The result of this test made the expansion to 4 units an easy choice.”

IBM, DELTA AIR LINES WPP, 4A’S, IAB, AD COUNCIL AND OTHER INDUSTRY LEADERS ACT TO MITIGATE BIAS IN ADVERTISING TECHNOLOGY

IBM Delivers Open Source Toolkit to Identify and Mitigate Bias in Advertising Technology

CANNES, France, June 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, leading companies committed to improving fairness in marketing campaigns. The initiative, announced at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2022, brought together agencies, brands, and other leaders to generate awareness and take action towards mitigating bias in advertising technology. Committing organizations include IBM (NYSE: IBM), Delta Air Lines, WPP, Mindshare, 4A’s, IAB and the Ad Council.

The action is the most recent effort by IBM to drive education and awareness around the impact of bias in advertising technology. In 2021, the company launched a research initiative to explore the hypothesis that bias can exist in ad technology, which initial findings confirmed. The research also showed that mitigating bias in ad technology was possible using AI tools and resources in marketing processes. More industry participation and data collection are needed to better understand the potential impact of bias on these campaigns, but several industry leaders are demonstrating early activism by raising awareness and taking action via IBM’s Advertising Fairness Pledge.

“While the risk of bias in advertising is well known, by making this commitment, these organizations are among the first in the industry to take action,” said Bob Lord, IBM Senior Vice President of The Weather Company and Alliances. “Together, we are agreeing to educate ourselves and our companies and ask other industry leaders to join us in helping to mitigate bias in advertising.”

Toward that effort, IBM also announced the release of its gratis Advertising Toolkit for AI Fairness 360, an open-source solution deploying 75 fairness metrics and 13 state-of-the-art algorithms to help identify and mitigate biases in discrete data sets. A playbook and sample code are also made available for ease of use. Organizations utilizing the toolkit may gain a better understanding of the presence and impact of bias on their ad campaigns, as well as the makeup of their audiences.

“Used correctly, data can help brands personalize consumer engagement and identify the most relevant touchpoints. However, we know that bias can exist in algorithms or technology, and that’s why we’re helping our clients to evaluate how and when to use data in a meaningful way that will benefit the customer experience,” said Mark Read, CEO of WPP. “Through WPP’s GroupM, we’ve developed the Data Ethics Compass to help clients navigate the challenges of using datasets, while IBM’s new Advertising Toolkit for AI Fairness 360 will help us to better understand the potential impact of bias. Consumers rightly expect brands to use their information in a fair way and for the industry to tackle data bias collectively, which can ultimately result in increased engagement and commercial outcomes.”

Bias is often unintentional, a result of human assumptions and judgments encoded into algorithms that can result in unfair targeting, exclusion of certain groups, and marketing campaign failures. Organizations taking the pledge can contribute data to ongoing studies that seek to better explain the impact of bias. According to Salesforce’s 2022 State of the Connected Customer survey, nearly 62 percent of consumers surveyed reported they are concerned about bias in AI, up from just 54 percent two years prior, emphasizing the imperative for brands and agencies to better understand its impacts.

“As technology and data prevalence accelerates, the risk for bias in advertising compounds. It is our duty to address this head-on,” said Adam Gerhart, Global CEO of Mindshare. “We believe the industry needs to take clear and intentional action, which is why we are committing to leverage the Advertising Toolkit for AI Fairness 360.”

As the advertising industry continues to face issues related to privacy and transparency, many organizations believe that tackling bias in ad tech could be a next key area of focus for marketers. Nearly $1 trillion was spent on digital advertising globally in 2021, much of which flows through programmatic engines that segment and target specific audiences, sometimes missing large consumer groups in the process. With increasing consumer demand for transparency in how their data is used, marketers must look for new ways to remain effective. Tapping into alternative privacy-forward data sources, such as weather data, can be effective predictors of behavior that could also help rebuild trust with consumers.

“As a global brand, we know that every decision we make, whether it’s about a supplier, an employee or an ad campaign, is a reflection of our values and the change we want to see in the world,” said Emmakate Young, Delta’s Managing Director of Brand Marketing. “We’ve long been focused on inclusive representation in our campaign creative, this effort allows us to go a step further to bring more inclusive representation to our campaign delivery.”
