Blis keeps finger on the pulse of consumer behaviour with global sentiment tracker

1 in 3 Singaporeans would save additional funds as sentiment starts to slowly decline

SINGAPORE, Aug. 19, 2020 — Blis, a trusted leader in location-powered advertising and analytics has today released the Blis consumer confidence pulse, an interactive tracker that captures a quick snapshot of consumer sentiment. The tracker plots how consumers are feeling about their local economy, household finances and spending intent and the survey is running in Singapore, the UK, USA, UAE and Australia.

Based on three highly topical questions around finances the Blis pulse is updated twice monthly to provide a rounded picture of how consumers are reacting to changes in their situation, both personally and on a national scale.

Head of Insights, Alex Wright speaking on the tracker said, "We started this tracker in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak being declared a pandemic to give us a quick read on consumer sentiment. Armed with the knowledge of what consumers are telling us, we can then plot this against our retail foot traffic and consumer movement data to give a rounded view of progress through crisis, stability and recovery."

Over the past six months, physical movement restrictions have ebbed and flowed in different cities across the country with daily activities requiring new safety measures. As a result, most consumers are behaving differently, with many working from home, avoiding crowded public spaces and communicating virtually. For brands, this tracker provides an opportunity to contextualise other data sources to really understand the concerns of their audience.

For the most part sentiment towards the Singaporean economy has remained remarkably robust, except for a dramatic swing in June. This coincided with Prime Minister Lee’s address to the nation and messaging from several government ministers that the Covid-19 pandemic meant the road to recovery would be a long one. Early July saw the most optimism in both the economy and household finances although we’re beginning to see a decline in sentiment once again. Interestingly, the pessimistic spike in early June led to a surge in intent to spend additional funds on home improvement, as people prepared to settle in for the long haul. Aside from this, Singaporeans have consistently declared their intent to save any spare income.

"2020 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster year. Everyone has been impacted differently and now people are not only concerned about the health crisis, but also the global financial crisis. Since March, we’ve seen brands pivot their operations, strategy and messaging multiple times to meet their consumers’ concerns about safety. Looking ahead, it’s essential for brands to pivot again and remain sensitive to their audience’s financial confidence. The Blis consumer confidence pulse allows brands a quick snapshot of the direction of sentiment," said Fionn Hyndman, Managing Director Asia.

The interactive trackers can be found here and will be updated twice monthly.

Hytera Launched the Latest Broadband Emergency Communication Products

SHENZHEN, China, Aug. 17, 2020 — In 2020, the COVID-19 and some natural disasters seriously threaten the society health, life and property, and in face of such challenges, the emergency communication becomes more and more important for the first-response rescue of government.

For the overall promotion on the capacity of the emergency rescue, Hytera has rolled out the cutting-edge products and solutions for emergency communication in 2020. Recently, Dr. Guan Bao, the general manager of Broadband System BU of Hytera, gave a comprehensive introduction of these latest technologies and products as well as the expectation of emergency communication in the future.

At the end of Q2 in 2020, Hytera has officially released its latest broadband products for emergency communication, and consolidated its leadership in professional communication in further. "The latest intelligent products were built on smart phone SoC with the advantages of high integration, super capacity, small form factor and low power consumption etc.," Dr. Guan explained "We insisted on the 4G and 5G mainstream technology directions on the waveform design even though it’s more complicated. Under the 3GPP specification, we developed the industry-leading cognitive mesh technology, which significantly improved the anti-jam ability, and the radio link became more robust and stable. With the cognitive on network and service, it supports more flexible topology and end-to-end QoS mechanism." Dr. Guan highlights 3 latest products.

PNE380: multi-mode mesh radio

PNE380: multi-mode mesh radio
PNE380: multi-mode mesh radio

The PNE380 is featured with small form factor, and the weight of 288g is almost the lightest mesh radio in the industry. PNE380 is designed as a brand-new handheld radio that is capable of offering voice, data and video multimedia service, and similar to the traditional DMR radios in dimensions, appearance as well as usage mode.

According to Dr. Guan, the PNE380 performs great despite its small size and low weight. Firstly, the PNE380 can flexibly switch between the cellular mode and the mesh mode on customers’ demands, which enriches the application scenarios of the radio. Secondly, with dual-band design, the PNE380 can work over both U and L band, and supports auto frequency scanning and selection, thus offering much better anti-jamming performance than the traditional single-band radio. Thanks to the superior signal processing capability of SoC chipset as well as the advanced technology of 4G and 5G, the PNE380 offers outstanding demodulation performance. Despite 0.5 watt transmit power, the single-hop distance with HD video service on the ground approaches to 1.5 Km with typical antenna, even longer than the distance of some backpacked mesh radio with high transmit power.

The PNE380 is powered with ARM cores and multimedia accelerators, and supports Android OS and customized Apps on actual demands.

Also, it provides rich peripheral interfaces for the flexible functionality extension.

In addition to high definition video services, the PNE380 radio can also offer various voice services through the Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) software, such as trunking group call, multi-party conference and more. Dr. Guan said that Hytera will launch more smart mesh radios to further enrich product forms and improve the performance of the overall solution.

Dr. Guan Bao noted that in addition to complete terminal products, Hytera is also engaged in module and board integration. Hytera is open to jointly develop innovative products with partners, promote the innovation of technologies, products and solutions through crossover cooperation, and build a more open ecosystem.

Dome Camera over Mesh Network

The dome cameras are widely used in fire, public security, energy and other industries to capture videos in emergencies. At present, dome cameras feed live video over public networks. However, in many emergency situations, public networks might be unavailable or congested, resulting in video backhaul failures. This adversely affects decision making for emergency.

To solve the problem, Hytera together with its partners embeds the mesh module into the pedestal of the dome camera. Therefore, when public networks are congested, the dome camera can backhaul video to the command center over mesh network, which significantly improves situational awareness and facilitates decision making.

The cost-effective and integrated pedestal can be easily installed and connected to PNE380, manpack radios, mobile radio, and other mesh products, which brings a more practical solution.

Adhesive Communication Box

The devices, no matter manpack, handheld, or wearable, will increase the burden on the first responders. As the first responders move or improperly carry the devices, the communication performance might be affected. Considering the emergency situations on the site, Hytera along with its partners has proposed the creative concept of adhesive communication box.

Dr. Guan showed an upcoming adhesive communication box that weights over 400 g. The box is easy to be recycled and pasted to the wall, light pole and other facilities by reusable universal pastes. Thus, customers give the box a vivid nickname "chewing gum". Featuring rich peripheral interfaces, the box also can be integrated with the AI edge computing module or Internet of Things (IoT) module, which further improves process capabilities and makes the box suitable for more scenarios.

5G technologies facilitate the development of the device-to-device (D2D) technologies, which have been widely applied to sectors such as the Internet of Vehicles (IOV) and Internet of unmanned intelligent devices. Dr. Guan pointed out, with the 5G-driven evolution of 3GPP-based mesh network technologies, Hytera will adhere to mainstream mesh network technologies and constantly upgrade mesh products. Based on unmanned drones and vehicles, 5G technologies shows great potential in the development of emergency communications toward the air-ground integration and man-machine coordination.

"5G technologies will promote the comprehensive and leapfrog development of emergency communications," Dr. Guan said. Hytera will embrace the opportunities and challenges to foster innovation, deepen cooperation, and expand the application of 5G in the field of emergency communications.

According to Dr. Guan, radio communication is indispensable in emergency communications. Hytera’s e-Fusion emergency communications solutions have been put into commercial use and won a large number of customers in both domestic and overseas markets. With the launch of more new technologies and products, Hytera’s emergency communications products will develop toward miniaturization, intellectualization, and higher practical performance. Moreover, based on the modular design, Hytera expects to establish an open and innovative platform to enhance development of emergency communications.

CareMonkey becomes ‘Operoo’, launches digital school operations platform

Education technology provider repositions to meet surging demand to streamline and automate operational school tasks and processes in K – 12 sector

NEW YORK, Aug. 14, 2020 — CareMonkey – the world’s fastest growing cloud-based solution for online school forms, medical data and trip management – has relaunched as ‘Operoo’. The relaunch will see the company trade as Operoo, with its software – rebranded under the same name, emphasizing its power as a School Operations and Productivity Platform.

The brand’s new logo and website were unveiled at www.operoo.com, along with a simple mission statement: To help schools eliminate operational inefficiencies, so that every dollar and every minute possible is focused on student education.

Operoo CEO and CoFounder, Troy Westley, said the new name reflected how the company had evolved to meet growing demand throughout the global K – 12 education sector for solutions that could streamline a broad range of day-to-day school operations.

"The ‘Oper’ part of Operoo is short for ‘operations’, while the ‘roo’ is a reminder of our Australian origins – even though we’re now truly an international company with offices in the USA, UK and Australia," said Westley. "When we began CareMonkey in 2013, the product was all about care – hence the name. The focus was on collecting child medical and emergency information from parents, then making that data securely available to schools and supervisors at other organizations with a duty-of-care.

"Since then, our product has grown and matured. We’ve listened to what our customers want and how they use the product. The feedback was clear: The daily operational and administrative demand placed on schools and their staff is growing fast. As a result, schools are looking for solutions to reduce the resources required to complete those recurring tasks so that they can focus on what really matters; educating young people. Operoo empowers schools to achieve that goal."

The renewed focus has seen the company grow rapidly, expanding its US and UK client bases by more than 1100% and 260% respectively since early 2019.

Operoo President, Peter Bencivenga, said: "For a long time, there’s been a huge gap in the education technology market, which sat between school administration systems and single use case products; like parent communication or payment apps.

"While we had already been working to address this need leading up to the launch of Operoo, that gap became glaringly obvious when COVID-19 started impacting the global education sector. Not only did the number of operational tasks schools had to manage soar, they simply had to be managed digitally in order to adhere to social distancing requirements and government health guidelines. Paper-based and human-reliant ways of working just weren’t an option. Operoo’s School Operations and Productivity Platform bridges that gap."

Operoo enables schools to automate, manage and track operational tasks in one cloud-based platform. Operoo offers digital workflows for a range of routine school processes – which are often manual, disconnected and paper-based – including distributing and collecting school forms, mobile communications, parental consent, payments, medical and emergency information, staff approvals, incident reporting, activity and group management, paperless school trips and more.

Operoo client and Principal at New York City’s Staten Island Technical High School, Mark Erlenwein, commented: "We started working with CareMonkey, now Operoo, because we were spending too much time and money manually managing routine paper processes. We’ve now digitized and automated over 30 different workflows – from emergency contact cards and consent forms, to reimbursement and leave requests – reducing the manpower required to perform them by 75 percent."

The latest iteration of the OECD’s global Teaching and Learning International Survey found that educators in the developed world are working longer hours than ever before. An increasing amount of time spent on non-teaching tasks was cited as a key contributor to that trend, with ‘skyrocketing administrative requirements’ a primary culprit. In fact, 91 percent of the 18,000 educators who contributed to the University of Sydney’s 2018 study, Understanding Work in Schools, reported experiencing a level of administrative demand so high it was a ‘hindrance’ to their job.

Founded in 2013 from Melbourne, Australia, CareMonkey won numerous awards, including two global start-up competitions in 2015: Talent Unleashed, presented by Sir Richard Branson, and Slush, where the company won a €650,000 investment. Company CoFounders, Troy Westley (CEO) and Martin Howell (CTO), declined the offer in favor of growing the business organically.

In 2019, a consortium led by Peter Bencivenga, New Ground Ventures and ReThink Education, approached and invested in CareMonkey, with Bencivenga becoming CareMonkey’s President.

Today, Operoo has offices in the US, UK and Australia serving thousands of customers from every major continent around the world. The company’s School Productivity and Operations Platform will be generally available under the Operoo name from Friday 14th August 2020.
