VIISA Hold Virtual Investment Day For The First Time

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, Jan. 18, 2021 — On 7 January 2021, VIISA organized Investment Day Batch 8 on its online platform, attracting more than 80 investors as well as corporations and startup community builders. This invite-only event also marked a new milestone for tech-startups Batch 8 in their 4-month journey with VIISA.

Taking place online for the first time, Investment Day Batch 8 solves the problem of geographical distance as well as difficulties in the global context of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing opportunities for startups and investors to share and exchange the latest updates about startup ideas. The event was divided into 2 sessions: live-streamed pitching shows from startups and networking activities between founders and investors with separate rooms for each startup team.

Opening the event, Mr. Vo Tran Dinh Hieu – Board Member and Program Director at VIISA, said: "Unlike any other, we want to preserve the excitement of live pitching, so this is not a recorded video, we have all the founders here with us and they are ready to go. So it is the first week 2021 and it seems like we will have another very eventful year. The UK announced 3rd lockdown, the Capitol Hill was taken yesterday. But still in Vietnam thousands of people gathered for fireworks shows on new year’s eve. I believe this tranquility in Vietnam represents what everyone has achieved in the last year. We all have sharpened our adaptability and agility to maintain the composure of our businesses. I hope we all will carry on this great attitude forward to 2021. We started this batch in June 2020 with 3 companies and only one succeeded to graduation. During this batch, we also continued supporting the alumni to recover from the covid situation."

This year’s Investment Day is not only an opportunity for VIISA Batch 8 startups to demonstrate their maturity, but also a chance for alumni startups who have participated in previous courses to reconfirm their development and position in the startup ecosystem. Whether the startup model is about real estate, fashion, events, e-commerce, technology, and applicability factors are all of the program priorities. With the hope to help young Vietnamese startups build their global business, these are special features that VIISA always appreciates.

Pitching in the event are 5 startups:

Caohejing Index Map
Caohejing Index Map

During the 13th Five-Year Plan, for the purpose of accurately representing the formation rules of global innovation centers in science and technology and accelerating the construction of important carrier and innovation clusters, Caohejing Hi-Tech Park focused on the basic framework of an innovation ecosystem and built a science and technology innovation index system with "six forces" at its core. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted in areas of innovative economy growth, innovative resource aggregation, innovation outputs, innovative service improvement, innovative industry development and innovative environment construction. These studies objectively reflected the park’s performance in building the science and technology innovation center, providing typical insight and experience.

The park’s science and technology innovation index is calculated using 2011 as the base period (reference value of 60). According to the report, the index moved up to 186.8 as of the end of 2018 with 15.93% year-on-year growth. The compound annual growth rate during the 13th Five-Year Plan period was 13.55%. Across the measured indicators, six first-level indicators all saw rapid and steady growth. These indicators were: supporting force for science and technology innovation, demonstrating force of science and technology service, aggregating force of innovation platforms, pioneering force of innovation commercialization, leading force of emerging industries and benchmarking force of urban renewal.

Science and Technology Innovation Index PLUS

In 2020, the park adopted the concept of an "innovation map" in its science and technology innovation index. Indicator data and regional space resource distribution are combined to form the science and technology innovation enterprise map, innovative industry map, science and technology service technology, innovations map and fintech map, serving as the "instrument panel" and "navigator" for its innovation-driven development.

The index map focuses on science and technology innovation and future industry development, visually reflects the aggregation and interaction degree of various innovators and elements in the park and shows the independent innovation degree of enterprises and levels of high-tech products. In addition to this, it also represents the development of the park’s economy featuring new technologies, industries, business types and development patterns. At the same time, the index map is committed to strengthening the park’s brand by building an innovation information service center to guide the launch of innovation projects, distribution of innovation resources and participation of social capital.

It tells a story about how a coffee bean travels across the seas to China, and eventually helps the once impoverished hinterland of S.W. China’s Yunnan province shake off poverty and achieve prosperity.

This touching story is from a short film titled Coffee Matters.

The 3.34-minute short film shows the cultural and economic interactions between China and the West brought by small coffee beans, and connects the overseas viewers to China’s poverty alleviation campaign. This film went viral after being released on major media and social networking platforms in China and has achieved 400 million views globally so far.

James Kimonyo, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to China said: "How successful China’s industrialized anti-poverty model has been. The mellow coffee from Yunnan tells the story of China’s targeted poverty alleviation, and we will share and exchange with China on their experience and best practices to apply them in our country."

CES 2021 Taiwanese Startup ACSI Gives New Technological Shine to Traditional Chinese Medical Treatments

TAIPEI, Jan. 15, 2021 — Chinese medicine has been receiving increased attention worldwide. These traditional therapeutic treatments are now being combined with modern technology and integrated into Western medicine. Acupuncture, for example, is being widely adopted and trusted by patients and doctors. However, more serious but rarer side effects of acupuncture have also been observed to occur, including collapsed lung (pneumothorax), which accounts for 1.5% of incidents. Thus, a more precise and safer method is being introduced by Advanced Control & System Integration Laboratory (ACSI) under the Handheld Automatic Acupuncture System (HAAS) project, according to Taiwan Tech Arena.

HAAS is a handheld, AI-enabled device that identifies acupoints and positioning using AI image recognition technology.
HAAS is a handheld, AI-enabled device that identifies acupoints and positioning using AI image recognition technology.

Technology Is No Longer Limited to Western Medicine

HAAS is a handheld, AI-enabled device that identifies acupoints and positioning using AI image recognition technology. This makes acupuncture significantly safer than before. In addition, HAAS automatically identifies suitable acupoints for different symptoms based on AI decision making and big data.

Furthermore, HAAS is equipped with different acupoint stimulation modules. The acupuncture module autonomously drops needles to stimulate acupoint positions and provide real-time acupuncture according to the user’s symptoms. The physiotherapy module covers techniques such as moxibustion, the massage gun, and far infrared. This product not only provides more convenient, independent treatment and rapid health recovery effects to achieve personal health care assistance but also provides professional traditional Chinese medicine education assistive devices.

Using HAAS is simple and straightforward. First, after entering the symptoms or acupoints into the mobile app, the AI system confirms the user’s requirements and identifies the acupoints automatically. Simply by operating the device in accordance with the HMI instructions on phone, HAAS will treat the body with AI-controlled acupoint stimulation.

Research results show that both patients and healthy individuals may experience enhanced self-immunity functions and improved symptoms (or even full recovery to health) after treatment with HAAS.

A Steadily Growing, Worldwide Market

The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) market in China is growing steadily and is expected to reach $844 billion RMB (US$123 billion) in revenue by 2023.

In May 2019, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) included traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the Global Medical Outline of Diseases ICD for the first time. Since then, TCM has received growing attention in many Western countries, with an increasing number of researchers and clinicians devoting themselves to TCM research.

Innovative Cross-field Applications Are in the DNA of Startups

Advanced Control and System Integration (ACSI) Laboratory is a professional artificial intelligence vision solutions provider. ACSI has over 7 years of experience in the development of vision-based biomedical engineering, advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous cars, embedded system technologies, and proprietary high-performance mechatronics solutions. ACSI is dedicated to creating innovation value through the development of TCM-related and adjacent technologies and autonomous cars and by identifying the needs of emerging-market customers.

Not only did he play for Japan’s Yomiura Giants and transfer to Major League Baseball in the U.S., but he also competed twice for Japan in the Olympics. Finally, CNN meets former judo champion Kaori Matsumoto, who made a name for herself as one of the top female judokas in the world – winning gold at the London Olympics in 2012 and bronze at the Rio Games in 2016. These days, she’s pivoted to an entirely different passion: making healthy ice cream in Tokyo.
