Annie Grace Offers Advice for Tackling FebFest

"This Naked Mind" author shares gentle wisdom and insight

DENVER, Feb. 1, 2021 — Taking a break from something that isn’t good for you is always a good idea. Even better when you can raise money for an important cause at the same time. In asking people to abstain from alcohol for a month and raise money for disadvantaged youth, FebFest does both.

Annie Grace, author of "This Naked Mind" and "The Alcohol Experiment"
Annie Grace, author of "This Naked Mind" and "The Alcohol Experiment"

For some, the energy behind the importance of the fundraising mission will be enough to sustain their commitment to remaining alcohol free. For others, losing the booze will be more difficult.

"Starting a month-long challenge to abstain from alcohol is exciting and empowering," says Annie Grace, author of This Naked Mind and The Alcohol Experiment. "But, it can also be daunting. If alcohol is typically part of your daily life, removing it can be difficult. And, relying on willpower alone to drive your success can make it even harder."

Annie Grace offers the following advice to anyone taking a break from alcohol:

Be Kind – First and foremost, meet yourself with compassion, right where you are. Remember, alcohol is an addictive substance. It’s OK if abstaining is hard. There is nothing wrong with you.

Buddy Up – Don’t go it alone. There is strength in numbers. Find an accountability partner or even an entire community of people on the same journey. Support and learn from each other.

Get Curious – Don’t ignore alcohol this month. Rather, use the break to truly explore your relationship with alcohol. Learn how alcohol interacts with your brain and why simply flexing your willpower muscle might not be enough.

Write It Down – Document your experience in a journal. How do you feel? What was hard? What was easy? What did you notice about yourself without alcohol? What makes you want to drink?

Don’t Quit – If you slip and have a drink, try again. Even though it’s meant to be a month of abstinence, you do not have to declare defeat. Keep going. Do the best you can.

No matter why someone decides to participate in an alcohol free month, ultimately the best thing about their choice is the opportunity they give themselves to learn more about who they are both with and without the substance and determine what role they want alcohol to play in their lives in the future.

About This Naked Mind
Founded by Annie Grace in 2015, This Naked Mind (TNM) helps people end the conflict between their desire to drink less and their unconscious belief that alcohol is beneficial. Annie Grace overcame a decade of drinking by revamping her own relationship with alcohol. Today she helps others across the globe do the same – the 200,000+ people who’ve bought her books, the 350,000+ people who receive daily emails from her, the listeners who’ve downloaded her This Naked Mind Podcast episodes more than 8 million times, and the 200,000+ people who’ve gone through her free program, The Alcohol Experiment. Rather than teaching people how to be sober, TNM takes away the desire to drink. And, the approach helps people where rehabs have not. Entain Marks Its First Day With Measures To Deliver On Its New Strategy

– U.S. growth accelerates as BetMGM plans to double its footprint in three months

– Entain to seek licence in Canada and becomes the first global sports betting and gaming operator to gain a licence in Latin America

LONDON, Dec. 10, 2020 — The global sports betting and gaming group previously known as GVC Holdings plc, marked the first day of trading under its new name with a range of measures to deliver on the vision and direction recently outlined by its CEO Shay Segev. The new measures extend across all the countries in which it operates with brands including bwin, PartyPoker, Ladbrokes, Coral, FoxyBingo and BetMGM.

Last month Entain announced a new strategy to deliver significant growth, driven by expansion in the U.S., growth across its core business, entry into new markets, and to new audiences. Entain, which has a very strong track record of 19 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in its online business, also committed to lead responsible gaming with a new Sustainability Charter. Under this charter, the business pledged to focus only on regulated markets and use its proprietary technology to raise levels of player protection.

As part of these plans to deliver growth and sustainability, Entain today confirmed strong momentum and market share gains in the U.S. for BetMGM, its joint venture with MGM Resorts. Between October and January BetMGM is adding five new states, doubling its population reach in three months to around 75 million across 12 states. Entain also disclosed that BetMGM’s most recent state launch in Tennessee has been its most successful go-live yet with revenues already ahead of those in more established states. Powered by Entain technology, BetMGM expects to be in over 20 states by the end of 2021.

"We are firmly on track to take further leadership in the U.S. as well as in many other newly regulated markets that are now opening around the world." said Segev. "At the heart of our growth strategy is a determination to bring the best player experiences and protections to our industry as technology moves sport and interactive entertainment into a new era. In the U.S., we invested in building the right building blocks for the BetMGM platform to grow and become a long-term leader in the U.S., with superior technology and capabilities, and this is now paying off."

Entain also fleshed out its new Sustainability Charter, allocating money to new projects which will be delivered through its international Foundation around the world. It also gave further detail on its new Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC) initiative, seeking to revolutionise player experiences and protection through world-leading research, data science and technology. Other new measures include:

Focus on new regulated markets: In line with its stated intention to focus on fully regulated markets, Entain today announced it has become the first global sports betting and gaming operator to gain a licence in Latin America and expects to go live in Colombia over the next month. Colombia is one of the first countries to issue licences in Latin America with others, such as Brazil preparing to follow. Elsewhere in the Americas, Canada is also moving ahead with regulation and Entain confirmed it will be applying for licencing in Canada.

  • Investing in people and communities: Entain has pledged to invest £100 million over five years in the Entain Foundation to fund responsible gaming initiatives and to support people and communities around the world where it operates. Today, it announced a series of international commitments:

UK: Entain and the three Trident Leagues (The Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues) are to launch the Trident Community Foundation to help fund community-based projects. Grants will be open for the 228 football clubs that participate in the leagues.
"Pitching In", Entain’s recently launched grassroots sport investment programme, is the founding partner of the Trident Community Foundation (TCF) and has donated £150,000 to establish the TCF fund, for distribution over the rest of the 2020/21 season.

US: The Entain Foundation is rolling out an extensive state-by-state program with EPIC, a charitable organisation which works with former athletes and people who have overcome gambling addiction to help educate people on how to play safely.

The U.S. project announced today with EPIC extends the program to a total of 15 Pro Sports teams and over 20 colleges across the country, including Harvard University, University of Oregon, and the Mid-American Conference. Entain and EPIC plan to work together to add additional professional sports leagues and colleges across the US during 2021.

Germany: The Entain Foundation will continue existing sports integrity projects in Germany and receive early funds to initiate further activities around responsible gaming.

Australia:  The Foundation has announced initial new projects to advance responsible gaming with Relationships Australia, a community-based not for profit organisation which provides a range of counselling and support services to problem gamblers and their families. The new funding will be used to support a social media campaign to reach vulnerable audiences and to raise awareness of the signs of gambling addiction.

  • Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC): Under this recently announced programme, Entain will combine its technology with research and insight from leading psychologists and Harvard to develop innovative experiences and safeguards for a new era in interactive sport and entertainment. To this end, Entain today announced that:

    Dr. Michael Auer,
a leading academic and member of the scientific community at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, specialising in behavioural psychology and addiction, will join Entain alongside Professor Mark Griffiths, Distinguished Professor of Behavioral Addiction and Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. They will evaluate and advise on improvements to Entain’s guidelines and processes in relation to responsible gaming.

Mexico Telecommunication Giant, Alestra, Deploys Bright Pattern Contact Center Software for CENACED’s Telehealth Services During COVID-19

Alestra, deploys Bright Pattern Contact Center for nonprofit, CENACED, to offer remote psychological teleassistance services during the pandemic

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, California, July 15, 2020 — CENACED, a non-profit healthcare organization, has deployed Bright Pattern as their cloud-based contact center software provider amid the COVID-19 pandemic. CENACED uses Bright Pattern to offer free telehealth services to help citizens in Mexico dealing with stress during the quarantine. They have also moved agents and counselors to a remote model to protect the safety of their employees during the pandemic.

VIDEO EMBEDDED: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKZKmhY6KtQ&feature=youtu.be

A recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that the pandemic has negatively affected the mental health of 56 percent of adults. In April, texts to a US federal emergency mental-health line were up 1,000 percent from the year before. The situation is particularly dire for certain vulnerable groups—health-care workers, COVID-19 patients with severe cases, and people who have lost loved ones. CENACED is working with Bright Pattern, Alestra, and Bright Pattern partner, Call It Once, to bring telehealth counseling services to impacted people in Mexico to help people deal with the current health crisis.

CENACED offers free psychological telecare to people who have symptoms of stress derived from quarantine and with Bright Pattern’s virtual call center technology are now handling 120 cases per hour and serving almost 50,000 people per month. Alestra, Bright Pattern, and Call It Once joined CENACED in this critical initiative, enabling a teleassistance contact center in the cloud as shown in this video showing the solution in action. Per CENACED this cloud contact center was deployed in “record time” and is “a technology initiative that changes lives”:

“Bright Pattern has helped global companies during the pandemic by providing a 100% virtual platform allowing customers to seamlessly transition to remote teams,” said Michael McCloskey, CEO of Bright Pattern. “Countries in both Asia and Europe have also used Bright Pattern to help with COVID contact tracing but this is the first Bright Pattern powered contact center that is helping offer telehealth services during the pandemic as well.”

“Today, the world is facing challenging times. People and companies are taking the lead in collaborating in a more personalized way leveraging innovative technology,” said Ana Llano, Regional Manager, Latin America, Bright Pattern. “With our help, CENACED was able to deploy a hybrid contact center with onsite and remote agents quickly thanks to the ease-of-use of the Bright Pattern platform. Agents were ready to provide personalized virtual counseling services and psychological teleassistance to Mexican citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. At Bright Pattern, we are proud to collaborate with our partners and help CENACED with this innovative use of technology focused on helping people and keeping agents safe at home.”

Sweeping Workplace Changes Expected in a Post-pandemic World, Says Research From The Adecco Group

Businesses and workers call for greater flexibility, questions raised over the hours-based contract, and a new empathetic leadership profile emerges

ZURICH, June 30, 2020

  • Workers demand greater flexibility after coronavirus, with a 50/50 split of remote and office time confirmed as the universal ideal
  • Questions raised over the hours-based contract, with 69% saying contracts should be based on results delivered rather than hours worked
  • Boom in digital skills an unintended consequence of lockdown, with tech knowhow improving for six in 10 (61%), and two thirds (69%) eager for further digital upskilling post-pandemic
  • Leaders need to reinvent themselves as more emotionally intelligent, but they are not prepared, as less than half felt equipped to support employees holistically during the pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in pivotal shifts in attitudes and expectations among workers and leaders, as both call for permanent changes in how and where we work, workplace relationships and future skills, according to new research from the Adecco Group.

The Adecco Group, the world’s leading HR solutions company, today unveiled the results of its latest study, Resetting Normal: Defining the New Era of Work, examining the expected short- and long-term impact of the pandemic on resetting workplace norms. Fieldwork was conducted in May 2020, with 8,000 office-based respondents (aged 18-60) across Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK and the USA.

The Adecco Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Alain Dehaze, said: “The world of work will never return to the ‘normal’ we knew before the pandemic struck. The sudden and dramatic change in the workplace landscape has accelerated emerging trends such as flexible working, high-EQ leadership, and re-skilling, to the point where they are now fundamental to organisational success. As many countries emerge from the acute crisis phase of the pandemic, employers have an opportunity to ‘hit reset’ on traditional workplace practices – many of which have remained largely unchanged since the industrial revolution. This research highlights that employee attitudes have shifted and gaps between workforce expectations and entrenched labour market processes have been exposed. As we step into the new era of work, now is the time to establish better norms that will enable a holistically healthy, productive and inclusive workforce into the future.”

Key research highlights:

The research revealed that the working world is ready for a new “hybrid” model, with three quarters (74%) of workers surveyed saying a mix of office-based and remote working is the best way forward. The universal ideal of spending half (51%) of their time in the office and half working remotely (49%) transcends geographies, generations and parental status. And company executives agree, with almost eight in ten (77%) C-suite leaders saying businesses will benefit from increased flexibility.

Another stark finding could signal the end of the hours-based contract and 40-hour week. More than two thirds (69%) of workers are in favour of “results-driven work,” whereby contracts are based on delivering against business needs rather than working a set number of hours. A high proportion of C-suite executives (74%) agree that the length of the working week should be revisited.

The pandemic has also demanded a new set of leadership competencies and these expectations are expected to accelerate a reinvention of the modern-day leader. Emotional intelligence has clearly emerged as the defining trait of today’s successful manager, but the soft skills gap is evident. Over a quarter (28%) of those questioned said their mental wellbeing had worsened due to the pandemic, with only 1 in 10 rating their managers highly on their ability to support their emotional health.

In a similar nature to flexible working, the findings demonstrate a universal appetite for mass upskilling. Six in 10 say their digital skills have improved during lockdown, while a further two thirds (69%) are looking for further digital upskilling in the post-pandemic era. A broad range of skills development were identified as important by the workforce, including managing staff remotely (65%), soft skills (63%) and creative thinking (55%).

Finally, the findings highlighted the importance of sustaining trust in the new working world. Companies have risen to the challenge of supporting their people during the crisis, and as a result, trust in corporations has increased. In fact, 88% say that their employer met or exceeded their expectations in adapting to the challenges of the pandemic. And with this increased trust comes increased expectations. While the future of work is a collective responsibility, 80% of employees believe their employer is responsible for ensuring a better working world post-COVID and resetting norms, compared with 73% who say the government is responsible, 72% who agree it is an individual responsibility, and 63% who believe it is in the hands of labour unions.

Hollo won the 2020 Microsoft Imagine Cup World Champion and the first team from Hong Kong to have won the World Champion since the launch of the Microsoft Imagine Cup in 2003.

Hollo Team members, Cameron van Breda (Final Year, Bachelor of Science), Ajit Krishna Namakkal Raghavendran (Year 3, Bachelor of Engineering) and Piyush Jha from India (Final Year, Bachelor of Engineering) met at HKU. The team noticed that mental health aid was not reaching the younger generations in their communities effectively and envision a future of tech-based, accessible, and comprehensive mental health management tools. With this in mind, Team Hollo developed a mental health companion web application leveraging Azure analytics and AI services to advance youth therapy practices.

Over 28,000 students from more than 200 countries registered to take part in the Microsoft Imagine Cup and only 10 teams were selected for the Asia Regional Final. Earlier in February this year, Hollo had won the title of World Finalist in the Asia Regional Final with their impactful solution. In winning the World Champion, the team won USD100,000, a mentoring session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and USD50,000 in Azure grants.

The Microsoft Imagine Cup aims to empower students to use their imagination and passion for technology to develop innovative and inclusive solutions that tackle key societal issues. Held online this year due to the pandemic, it is the first time a Hong Kong team took home the Cup, often called the “Olympics of student tech competitions.”

Piyush is an HKU Final Year Engineering student from Delhi Public School, Indore who majors in Computer Science and minors in Finance. With a 97% score in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination, Piyush received the HKU Foundation Scholarship with a full tuition fee waiver and living allowance which is renewable for his entire undergraduate study at HKU. With HKU’s extensive global exchange network, Piyush was able to go on a summer exchange programme at the University of British Columbia in 2017. His outstanding GPA also won him the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund – The Reaching Out Award for the exchange in Vancouver, Canada. On top of that, Piyush is a two-time recipient of the HKSAR Government Talent Development Scholarship for his extraordinary performance in international competitions involving technological innovation challenges and computer science hackathons.

Ajit is currently a Third Year Engineering student who majors in Computer Science at HKU. Originally from Chennai, he was raised in Hong Kong from a young age and has always been curious and innovative growing up. Since studying at HKU, he participated in various international competitions and was a Finalist in the Global Legal Hackathon for which he went to New York City to pitch in the finals. He is also a recipient of the Funding for Experiential Learning Projects from the Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing of HKU. He has recently completed a 1-year internship in Asia’s leading digital asset company, BC Group.

When asked about how HKU has supported the team in pursuit of their tech aspirations, Team Hollo said, “iDendron at HKU has been a huge help to Hollo. It organised workshops for industry leaders and entrepreneurs to share with us their experiences and perspectives. We were also given networking opportunities to connect with potential elite founders from a wide spectrum of fields who have a common vision to create an impact to the world.”

Team Hollo added, “The Faculty of Science’s new minor, Science Entrepreneurship, has brought us insights via critical analysis of enterprises and taught us the connection of academic knowledge with the real world. It is this minor that has enlightened us on how to create something impactful and feasible at the same time.”

HKU Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Yiwu HE congratulates Team Hollo, “It demonstrated the growing culture of innovation and entrepreneurship on campus among both academics and students here at HKU. We should think not only in terms of pursuing a new idea or concept for discovery, but to facilitate excellent research that results in products that impacts the world. we hope HKU will incubate many successful companies with innovative products to help grow the high-tech industry and provide the younger generation with more opportunities in Hong Kong.”

icometrix launches its icompanion platform for people with multiple sclerosis

LEUVEN, Belgium and CHICAGO, June 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — icometrix, the world leader to extract clinically meaningful data from brain scans, is proud to have launched the icompanion platform and phone application for people with multiple sclerosis on World MS Day!  icompanion is a medical device and is currently available in English, French, German, and Dutch.

To support people with multiple sclerosis, icompanion provides an easy and secure app to track symptoms, treatments, and physician visits. Users can also obtain educational information on the meaning and quality of their brain scans by uploading their MRI scans onto the platform. With this, icompanion provides a solution to log events that occur between neurologist visits, by means of day-to-day symptom-tracking and standardized questionnaires (patient-reported outcomes).

“As a neurologist, you see a patient only a couple of times a year and we know that a lot of valuable information is lost in-between,” says Dr. Helmut Butzkeuven, neurologist at the Monash University in Melbourne, and director of MSBase, the largest global multiple sclerosis registry. “To make informed clinical and treatment decisions, it is important to have a complete picture of how a patient is doing,” Dr. Butzkeuven continues. “Medical devices such as icompanion can greatly help in democratizing care, since today, patient care depends on where you live and who cares for you,” Dr. Butzkeuven concludes.

“icompanion helps me keep track of my symptoms. Even if they seem insignificant, they are crucial in helping me communicate with my physician and prepare my visits. I think it’s great that by using icompanion, my data can also support researchers in their fight against multiple sclerosis. To win this battle we need everyone’s help, and together we are stronger,” shares Roberto Paolella, living with MS for 15 years.

“Offering care based on data and objective measures is crucial to move towards more personalized and precise medicine for people with neurological disorders,” says Wim Van Hecke, CEO of icometrix. “That is why we founded icometrix and developed the CE-labeled and FDA-cleared icobrain MR and CT brain measures, which are becoming standard of care. Through icompanion, the gap between doctor visits is bridged with clinically meaningful and validated data. The seamless availability of the icompanion data to the health care provider is very important in this context,” Wim Van Hecke states.

Jakarta-Based Home of Wellbeing Rumah Remedi Held #stayathome Meditations During the Pandemic

  • Regular meditation sessions were free of charge from mid of March until the end of April 2020.
  • By migrating the sessions from offline to online, Rumah Remedi managed to reach individuals residing in various places in Indonesia who needed help during the pandemic.

JAKARTA, Indonesia, May 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In line with the government’s stay-at-home order, Rumah Remedi decided to migrate all regular meditation sessions from offline to online. This is one of the ways to support their mission in sharing positive energy and kindness during the pandemic.

Rumah Remedi held free meditation sessions for 45 days to help everyone going through the discomforts during the uncertain COVID-19 virus pandemic

One of the leading programs of Remedi Indonesia as the parent company of Rumah Remedi is the Stress Release session that has been held every Tuesday since 2011. In this dharma session, the participants are encouraged to release any discomfort they experience with the help of two facilitators, with the objective to provide the participants with a new life skill that is useful in periods of stress.

Another regular session that could be accessed free of charge by the public was Wellbeing Wednesday. Held every Wednesday, this session has the objective to expose the limiting beliefs that prevent the participants from living to the fullest. There is also Circle of Trust session every Saturday; a safe circle in which participants can conveniently share their stories to help them feel relieved.

Remedi Indonesia is located in Bangka Raya, Kemang, South Jakarta and founded by Ferry Fibriandani (Founder, Corporate Coach & Advisor, Psychotherapist) and Siti Banu Intan (Co-Founder, Psychotherapist, Energy Psychology Practitioner) in 2011. As a home of wellbeing, Rumah Remedi offers various personal or corporate wellbeing and meditation programs aiming to maintain the harmony between the mind, heart, body and soul.

“Rumah Remedi held free sessions for 45 days to help everyone going through the discomforts during the uncertain COVID-19 virus pandemic. The decision of making them free was based on the consideration to empower more people through a life skill to release stress and preserve peace of mind. We have also been contacted by a group of journalists requesting us to elaborate on mindfulness and stress release techniques. It was a pleasure to share this with the media because it allowed us to reach more people on how important it was to maintain peace of mind by releasing unpleasant feelings and emotions,” explained Ferry.

Offline-to-online migration to reach Indonesians with Internet access who needed assistance in balancing their mind, body and soul during the #stayathome period was proven to be effective. There was an increase in the number of participants, coming from different places in Indonesia, starting from Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Balikpapan, Samarinda, to Purwokerto. There was even a participant living in Switzerland. Prior to this, Rumah Remedi only reached those residing in Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. “This condition yielded a significant increase in the number of participants, if compared to the offline activities before the pandemic,” said Ferry on the increase in the number of participants.

There were companies who needed stress release sessions, as their employees were not accustomed to performing office tasks from home. According to Ferry, they also shared the knowledge on mindfulness and stress release to corporations and government institutions, with the intention to empower every individual through the necessary life skill that allow them to adapt with myriads of changes occurring in numerous aspects of life as an impact of the pandemic.

In addition to these regular programs, Rumah Remedi tried to reach more individuals on the importance of self-care and self-love through an episode on their podcast channel Selaras Dalam Nafas (Harmony in the Breath) called “21 Hari Damai (21 Days Peacefulness Invitation)”. “After following the audio guidance in this podcast episode for 21 days, the listener may end up gaining the new habit and life skill to navigate a mindful life,” said Ferry at the end of the conversation.

After a period of free regular sessions, Rumah Remedi also held a live program entitled THR Cinta or Tips Harian Remedians Penuh Cinta (Daily Remedians Tips with Love) that could be accessed by the public on Instagram. The program discussed a variety of topics everyday and was hosted by Junior Facilitators hailing from different backgrounds. Through this program, the audience was also invited to participate in the fundraising that was channeled to those in needs, especially people who were badly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
