The outstanding camera phone – TECNO CAMON 15 Premier allows you to experience brilliant photography with big screen, big memory and big battery

HONG KONG, May 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The CAMON 15 series smartphone from TECNO Mobile (www.TECNOMobile.com) has begun its official sale, which means it’s time to dive deeper into this device that many people have heard so much about. Aside from its ultra-high resolution 64-megapixel camera, what are the features that make this phone the mobile photography powerhouse we’ve heard of from the first wave of pre-release users?

When speaking of the CAMON 15, two technologies must be mentioned that put it at the leading position in the market with its quad-camera smartphone technology: Ultra HD, and Super Night Mode. Powered by a 64MP Sony camera, Ultra HD is next-generation resolution performance, giving images that can be scaled up and zoomed in without sacrificing clarity. Meanwhile, Super Night Mode has everything to achieve that level of clarity even after nightfall, using TAIVOS™ technology to tame the wilderness that night shots have traditionally been for camera phone users, reducing noise and optimizing exposure levels with 15-frame synth.

With these two doing the heavy lifting, the CAMON 15 still manages to go further with the type of supporting features that help smartphone users get more out of their cameras in different shooting environments.

6.6’FHD+ Real Fullview, true big screen

While most of the competitors are equipped with 6.2″ or maybe to 6.5″ as the largest, the TECNO CAMON 15 Premier’s screen has a 6.6″ Perfect Full view, giving users a wider, clearer, and more colorful visual experience. The 91.2% super screen ratio and unibody pop-up camera design helps actualize the dream of an immersive, full view, cinematic experience. Users can enjoy a truly boundless screen.

The super big screen enables the 115-degree Super Wide-Angle visibility to be fully viewed. While taking photos with the 115° Super Wide Angle, it is needless to worry about failing to fully capture the grand scenery. The anti-distortion feature allows the scene be recorded as seen in reality.

128GB ROM + 6GB RAM, 4000mAh long-lasting battery, Powerful Performance

TECNO CAMON 15 Premier is armed with 128GB ROM + 6GB RAM and a 4000mAh long-lasting battery. 128GB ROM offers more space to store data, and relieves users of the need to frequently clean-up to get more storage. 6GB RAM provides a stable and highly efficient performance. Multitasking and gaming has become faster and smoother.

The 4000mAh powerful battery satisfies users’ need for a stable power supply in work and daily life.

Meete launched a program to support small and medium shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh

  • The non-profit program aims to join hands with the Government to support 2,000 stores to overcome difficulties by granting free services to both ensure macroeconomic stability and employment for workers.
  • This program will provide a (zero fee) solution that allows stores to create short-term cash flows during the social distancing period because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, May 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Meete mobile application – Nguyen Group Joint Stock Company officially announced on April 22, 2020 that the company will start the program to support 2,000 small and medium-sized merchants in the food / drink / fashion / beauty / tourism industries in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh under two forms: (1) free service grants with a total value of VND 3 billion and (2) – zero fee gift voucher sales targeted at VND 7.2 billion for merchants on Meete website.

Meete launched a program to support small and medium shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh

Based on studies from National Economics University in Vietnam, so far on April 1st, 2020, 34,7% of businesses in Vietnam have been closed. Most of them, which are of low to medium scale, have not been able to access affordable bank’s interest rate policy due to lacking financial reports and other terms, as a result many merchants have to exit or shut down their business entirely. Hence, this program was initialized with the proactive attitude of the Vietnamese startup community to share the responsibilities of the government in balancing macroeconomic situations. This program is expected to help sustain merchant’s business in tough times by providing short term cash flow via gift vouchers sales and ensure jobs availability to decrease the Government support expenditure.

The program includes 2 methods, in detail:

The first one encourages merchants by granting free services to reduce operation costs at the re-opening period. These packages are the result of a corporation between service providing units such as wifi marketing, delivery, reservation, advertisement, product marketing, CRM, … , which is 10 – 30 million VND of value each one. Merchants can actively search for detailed information on Meete website. Currently, there are more than 30 partners supporting for the program, such as Địa Điểm Ăn Uống, Movad, VNwifi, Ahamove, … up to total of 1 billion VND out of expected goal of 3 billion VND

Merchant responds positively with these services due to its practicality and assurance of no extra fee. “Losing 30-50% total revenue compared to months before the quarantine period is the current situation of Otoké Chicken and Chewy Junior bakery. Our prior solution would be cutting off labor and reducing 40% salary, pushing delivery, setting up a discount program. The problem of every project is the limited budget, hence, this support service package will minimize the cost of delivery, advertisement, … especially, we aim to launch a cash gift voucher program, so that if we earn customer’s support, revenue in the short-term would increase without exceeding the budget and more employees would be cut off for the next 3 months.” said Mai Trường Giang – CEO TG FOOD.

Second method involves providing short-term operating cash flow solutions during the temporary quarantine period so that merchants could spend more on employment, rentals, …etc through customers purchasing in advance gift vouchers on Meete that could be used after the quarantine. These gift vouchers are to be purchased at a discount and can be used as e-gifts. Moreover, customers will receive cash back sponsored by Meete’s payment partner Zalo Pay up to 1 million VND depending on the purchase value. It is targeted that the total revenue will be up to 7.2 billion VND for merchants participating (zero fee on participating merchants). Currently, there are more than 100 merchants registered for gift voucher sales, and more than 30 organizations and communities join in and spread the program’s message.

More and more Facebook & Zalo groups created by CEOs and manager stores to transfer and pass their businesses and even to express their fear of bankruptcy. ZaloPay decides to support Meete since they understand this program’s practicality, and is willing to shoulder the pressure of low-to-medium merchants. We believe that by standing together, we can come through this tough quarantine time.” said Ms Trang – Zalo Pay Marketing representative.

Let’s say a low-to-medium merchant owns 25 staffs, 2,000 merchants supported will result in saving 50,000 jobs. This will make a huge impact on the government’s public expenditure, while a lot of macroeconomy support projects remain in the planning stage.

Within the purpose of supporting the society through the severe effects of COVID-19, consumers and merchants can donate to the Ministry of Health’s Fighting COVID-19 fund via Meete website. Meete expects to raise 60 million VND funding for the next 2 months.

Mr. Nguyễn Cảnh Dương – Nguyen Group CEO sharing “Individual and companies have been fighting with difficulties never happened with precedents. The business community in Vietnam is mostly of low-to-medium scale, which easily being affected by external threats, and Meete has stepped up with this zero-fee program to support and encourage merchants with managing cashflow solutions in short-term. By that, we hope to strengthen the relationship between Customer and Business, Business and Business, all together we will go through tough times and activate the spirit of Viet Nam startup, and associate with the government to settle the current situation.”

Meete Introduction:

Meete is a Marketing & Sales solution for local merchants, developed on both mobile application and website platforms, and has presence in HCM city and Hanoi. Meete supports merchants in broadening and maximizing touchpoints with the customer niches by means of advanced technical tools such as distributing discount vouchers to customers, managing reservations, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), food delivery and many more media services. Meete end-users will be the customers of merchants. By using Meete, they have access to exclusive deals from Meete merchants.

WeChat is Taking Museums to the Cloud

SAN FRANCISCO, May 1, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Since the outbreak of the pandemic, major museums, galleries and expositions across the United States have been forced to cancel events and close their doors. This has put a lot of pressure on the industry as a whole. Within this environment, WeChat has teamed up with 11 museums in the U.S. to create an innovative “Museum in the Cloud” experience, allowing would-be museum-goers to digitally visit participating museums from their homes.

The partnership is wholeheartedly supported by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).

“We are very happy to support WeChat’s initiative to help digitalize the museum experience, as it also connects to the American Alliance of Museum’s vision of building ‘A world informed and enriched by thriving museums,'” said Arthur Affleck, the Vice President of Development of AAM. “The museum Mini Programs will enable Chinese audiences to tour American museums remotely from across the ocean, and help in bringing the world closer together under this special timing.”

These 11 museums are among the first partners to join WeChat’s travel solutions initiative – WeChat go. The partner museums span the East and West Coasts of the U.S. and include the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Autry Museum of American West, Guggenheim, Museum of the City of New York, Brooklyn Museum, Peabody Essex Museum, Walt Disney Family Museum, Telfair Museums, Aquarium of the Pacific and Lowell Observatory. From modern to ancient arts, aquariums to observatories, the participating museums run the gamut of curated collections.

Aimed at Chinese visitors, the Mini Programs being launched by the museums offer free public resources such as guided audio tours, video materials, introductions of pieces in the collections and interactive games. It is hoped that these resources will help Chinese museum-goers better understand the collections and offer them a more engaging experience, while allowing them to strengthen cross-cultural understanding even during social distancing.

MoMA Shows Users the Cream of the Collection

The MoMA Mini Program developed by the New York Museum of Modern Art, offers Chinese language explanations and audio guides for some of the museum’s finest pieces. Anna Temkin, MoMA’s Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture, even takes it upon herself to relate precious works such as Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and Monet’s Water Lillies to digital visitors.

Aside from these more practical functions, the MoMA Mini Program has two other bonus functions – “Find Your Match” and “Rewards”. “Find Your Match” was developed taking inspiration from dating software. Works of art pop up and users can swipe left or right depending on whether they like the piece or not.

Screenshots of the MoMA Mini Program
Screenshots of the MoMA Mini Program

Meanwhile, “Awards” encourages user engagement by giving them tasks to complete, through which they can win prizes such as exclusive wallpapers, MoMA postcards and membership draws.

The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco Turns Users into Collectors

In order to offer users a more engaging experience, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco equips three other functions, including introductions of the collections, museum guides and fun, interactive achievements for users to complete. After opening the Mini Program, users are led around the museum on a Private Tour by Dr. Jay Xu, Director and CEO of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. No matter how far users are from the museum geographically, they can feel like they’re right in the museum.

If a certain piece of the collection catches users’ eyes during their tours, they can add it to “My Display Case” and take a brief quiz. If the user answers successufully, they can obtain a “Collection Certification” from the Asian Art Museum and become an “Expert Collector.”

“The world is changing,” notes Dr. Xu. “But one constant is the desire for connection. WeChat serves as one of the Asian Art Museum’s most important portals—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across oceans and continents—for engaging our global communities to 6,000 years of art and culture. WeChat empowers us to creatively embrace change, inspire new audiences with new ideas, and share our most compelling stories from the past to the present, stories that spotlight our common humanity and connect art to life.”

The other 9 museum Mini Programs also being launched have incorporated museum introductions and basic visitor information like opening hours, pricing and reminders. The applets will also offer Chinese language explanations of key exhibit pieces and collection files, along with unique photo frames designed exclusively for the various museums. These digital portals will provide Chinese users and tourists real-time services and a rich “Museum in the Cloud” experience.

In addition to these Mini Programs, all-Mandarin arts and cultural platform Move the Mind (MTM) is also unveiling its own Mini Program to provide a one-stop outlet for the Chinese cultural tourist. MTM’s Mini Program will collate key information on arts and cultural institutions, and connect to other museum applets to encourage users to explore deeper and further. Accessible through MTM’s WeChat account, the Mini Program will add value to its readers’ viewing experience, encouraging them to actively engage with global arts and culture.

A Digital Escape to the Museums in the Cloud

Even though museums are temporarily unable to open and public gatherings have been restricted during the pandemic, WeChat is supporting the AAM to help 11 US museums bring a brilliant historical and cultural experience to users by opening the doors to the “Museum in the Cloud”. At the same time, it also helps to show other museums and cultural institutions how they can give themselves a “modern makeover” to create a more engaging and personalized experience that attracts new visitors, both digitally and offline.

Remote Work Trend Boosts Global Demand for Network Access Control Solutions

The global NAC market is estimated to reach $2.21 billion by 2024, finds Frost & Sullivan

SANTA CLARA, California, April 28, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Global Network Access Control Market, Forecast to 2024, finds that the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT), the convergence of information technology (IT) and operation technology (OT), and customers’ migration to the cloud at a faster pace are rapidly driving the NAC market. The sector is estimated to increase by two-thirds, reaching $2.21 billion by 2024 from $1.35 billion in 2019, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.4%. With 60.2% market share, North America will continue to be the largest market for NAC until 2024; APAC is the fastest-growing region and its share of the global NAC market is estimated to increase from 9.9% in 2019 to 11.9% in 2024. The COVID-19 pandemic will cause a severe slowdown in 2020. Thereafter, the NAC market is expected to regain annual double-digit growth rates as organizations settle into a “new normal.”

“Security vendors are working closely with their customers in order to support them in this unprecedented transition to work from home (WFH). They are focused on ensuring their clients’ business continuity, and the pandemic has underlined the value of cloud services in delivering and deploying security solutions to remote devices,” said Tony Massimini, Senior Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “However, the cloud environment needs security as well. Having a remote workforce highlights the need to leverage NAC. Large cybersecurity vendors with broad product portfolios will want to add this solution as well.”

Vendors should continue to innovate cloud security, work closely with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and other tech vendors, and focus on virtual appliances and NAC as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Additionally, NAC is adapting to a more mobile environment as enterprises expand beyond the traditional secure walls.

The complexity of 802.1X deployment (one of the best methods for authentication), surging diversity of IoT devices, and increasing NAC solution costs for large enterprises are likely to hinder the market. NAC vendors’ move to work beyond the traditional IT perimeter and innovation in other technologies will boost growth opportunities via:

  • Incorporating NAC into OT to improve security tools for better coordination and to leverage IoT technology.
  • Focusing on virtual appliances and SaaS for customers’ quick migration to public and private clouds.
  • Instrumentalizing the concept of zero trust networking (ZTN)—the never trust, always verify principle—so security vendors, including NAC, can promote their capabilities via integration of their product portfolios.
  • Capitalizing on use cases of IoT, BYOD, and mobility, which are increasing at a significant rate. Most IoT devices do not have the resources to handle an agent, so agentless technology is required.

SINGAPORE, April 28, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Prudential Singapore (“Prudential”) has launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile app, Pulse by Prudential (“Pulse”), to provide all Singapore residents with round-the-clock access to healthcare services and real-time health information. With Pulse, users can check their symptoms; conduct a digital health assessment to better understand future disease risks; and seek timely health advice, at any time and from anywhere.

With Pulse by Prudential, users can check their symptoms; conduct a digital health assessment to better understand future disease risks; and seek timely health advice, at any time and from anywhere.

Prudential Singapore’s CEO Dennis Tan said the spread of COVID-19 has created a greater sense of awareness and urgency to check symptoms experienced when we are unwell, and to take better care of our health and well-being.

“We have been working closely with HealthTechs and local doctors to develop Pulse. The launch of the app in Singapore is timely in light of the COVID-19 spread and the nation’s circuit breaker measures. With Pulse, one can have real-time health information at their fingertips and ready access to a doctor without having to leave their homes.

“To provide further peace of mind, we are providing a daily allowance to Pulse users in the event that they are hospitalised for COVID-19. We hope this support measure will provide some relief and comfort to Singapore residents during this challenging period,” said Mr Tan.

Launched on 23 April 2020, Pulse is available to everyone in Singapore. Singapore residents aged 18 and above can enjoy the following benefits without having to pay any subscription fee when they download Pulse and register their profiles:

1. 24/7 Video Consultation with a Doctor at S$15[1]

Pulse users pay a flat fee of S$15 when they consult a doctor. The fee does not include cost of medication and delivery. The panel of Singapore-licensed general practitioners (GPs) are registered with the Singapore Medical Council. They have also been trained to assess if an individual is suspected to have COVID-19.

2. S$100/S$200 daily hospitalisation allowance under the S$1.5 million PRUcare package[2]

Prudential is offering the following hospitalisation benefit under its PRUcare package to all registered Pulse users[3] who are hospitalised[4] for COVID-19:

  • S$100 daily allowance (for up to 3 months of hospitalisation) for non-Prudential customers[5] hospitalised between date of app (Pulse) registration and 31 May 2020.
  • One-month extension of S$200 daily allowance (for up to 3 months of hospitalisation) from 1 July to 31 July 2020 for Prudential customers[6]. This includes employees of its corporate and SME customers who are covered by its Group Insurance.

Since the launch of the PRUcare package on 19 February 2020, Prudential has paid out more than S$800,000 in cash benefits to those impacted by COVID-19.

Empowering people to take charge of their health and well-being with HealthTechs Pulse is part of Prudential’s region-wide strategy to make healthcare affordable and accessible to all individuals and families.

The digital health app, designed to empower people to take charge of their health and well-being, will continue to evolve with more value-added services slated for launch in the second half of the year.

The following in-app health and wellness features, backed by UK-based Babylon and Singapore-based MyDoc, are available to all users in the first phase of the app’s launch in Singapore. The Symptom Checker and Healthcheck are not intended for detection or diagnosis of diseases.

  • AI-powered Symptom Checker* – The AI-powered chatbot provides users with insights into possible health conditions based on the symptoms experienced. At the end of the chatbot conversation, users are guided to an appropriate triage outcome (e.g. Self Care’, ‘Pharmacy’, ‘GP’, ‘GP urgent’, ‘Hospital or ‘Hospital urgent’) and provided further information about possible causes where available. This tool has been recently updated to provide alerts on specific symptoms and conditions that could be related to COVID-19. Users are also advised to follow the recommendations provided by local health authorities as the COVID-19 situation can evolve rapidly.
  • AI-driven Healthcheck* – This is a lifestyle assessment and disease risk prediction tool. By doing a 15-minute digital questionnaire, users can get a report in real-time on their overall health status and long-term disease risks based on their lifestyle habits, medical history, family’s medical history, diet and mental health. The report is presented through a “Digital Twin” and includes health advice to help one reduce disease risks and improve overall well-being.
  • Video Consultation with a Doctor – Users can schedule a video consultation with a GP at any time of the day. The GPs are available 24/7 and will diagnose and advise on the appropriate treatment(s), whenever applicable. Users can opt for delivery of their prescribed medicine or collect it at a local Guardian pharmacy.

“Prudential has always believed in encouraging people to live well for longer. By leveraging health technology, we want to partner everyone in their health journey to prevent, postpone and protect against the onset of diseases which are often linked to lifestyle choices,” added Mr Tan.

Today, about two in five Singaporeans aged 60 and above have been diagnosed with three or more chronic diseases[7]. The adoption of preventative healthcare from young is key in ageing well, according to healthcare practitioners surveyed for Prudential’s 2019 Healthy for 100 research[8].

“While we all know the importance of eating well and exercising right, many of us tend not to take care of our diet and fitness until it is too late. We hope the Healthcheck function on Pulse can nudge people into being more proactive about preventative healthcare by making them aware of their potential disease risks and lifestyle gaps,” said Mr Tan.

Pulse will be rolled out to 11 markets under Prudential’s network across Asia, including Singapore.

Note:

Symptom Checker and Healthcheck are not intended for detection or diagnosis of diseases. In addition, both Symptom Checker and Healthcheck are not suitable for pregnant women, children under the age of 18 years, and users with long-term medical conditions or disabilities who may have different needs and risks. • VooV Meeting provides extensive network across the globe with exceptional system stability especially in China like nobody else does
  • Integrated with WeChat’s ecosystem, VooV Meeting allows users to join meetings through WeChat’s mini program or direct dialing without the need to install the app

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, April 27, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — To meet the growing demand for remote office and multi-country conferencing, Tencent Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Tencent, today introduces its cloud conferencing tool, VooV Meeting, in Malaysia, offering a high-definition, ultra-smooth and secure multi-person cloud conferencing solution. Enterprises can now seamlessly connect with their colleagues and business partners all over the world with VooV Meeting’s extensive network and stability. Furthermore, during the novel coronavirus outbreak, Tencent Cloud will provide global users with special complimentary access to VooV Meeting’s feature that connects up to 300 participants simultaneously.

Asiasoft Malaysia, China Construction Bank Malaysia (CCB Malaysia), and Green Packet Berhad (Green Packet), were among the first in the country to experience the use of VooV Meeting in order to maintain seamless communications and collaboration within their businesses as well as with external partners amid the recent coronavirus pandemic. Tencent also recently partnered with the United Nations for its 75th anniversary campaign, where VooV Meeting will be used in facilitating the largest global dialogue to date.

All these demonstrate the tool’s capability to offer smooth, stable and reliable cloud-based HD conferencing services for different business occasions.

“We are glad to gain the trust of these Malaysia partners in using our services for their business communications. Built on Tencent Cloud’s cutting-edge technology and Tencent’s experience in the internet, audio and video communications fields in the past 21 years, VooV Meeting can provide exceptional stable coverage globally, outperforming other industry players.” said Poshu Yeung, Vice President of Tencent International Business Group. “Meanwhile, ‘Value for Users, Tech for Good’ is Tencent’s guiding principle, and we strive to incorporate social responsibility into our products and services. By providing complimentary access to VooV Meeting and donating medical resources including masks to Malaysia, we hope to maximize our support to Malaysian enterprises and citizens amid the country’s movement control order.”

VooV Meeting is equipped with a number of practical and convenient features to help users improve efficiency for online conferences, including the integration with WeChat’s ecosystem which allows users to share meeting links through WeChat and to join meetings via WeChat’s mini program without the need to download any applications. It also has facial beautification and blurred background functions, screen-sharing with automated watermark and the use of HD image and high-fidelity processing algorithms to enhance video quality and minimize ambient noise and keyboard sounds, among other features.

Mr. Felix Feng, CEO of CCB Malaysia said, “We proposed the use of VooV meeting in CCB Malaysia as soon as the outbreak of COVID-19 began, as it underpins the good connection among cross-functionality teams, ensuring a smooth and collaborative work. More importantly, CCB Malaysia leverages VooV Meeting as a powerful tool to coordinate large sums of charity efforts, bringing up medical supplies and other trade in need to Malaysia over this challenging period.”

Mr. Joel Wong, VP of Customer Experience and Enterprise Agility from Green Packet commented “Since our government has issued the Movement Control Order as a COVID-19 pandemic countermeasure, the entire company has begun to work from home. To maintain business continuity and productivity, we have selected Tencent’s VooV Meeting app as our primary communications platform that enables us to maintain close communications and collaboration across our global offices and business partners. We find Tencent’s VooV Meeting app to be an extremely effective platform for communications and collaboration because of its ease of use, its extraordinary audio and video performance, and most importantly, its fundamental platform stability and security.”

Mr. Wong Jiann Hui,  technical director of Asiasoft Malaysia, said, “We adopt VooV meeting as our main tele-conferencing tool amid the pandemic as it could maintain quite a good connection even with a bad network. On top of that, features such as background blurring and AI makeup, among others, really fit well in a work-from-home setting, emphasizing a strong internet mindset in its product design.”

The underlying technology architecture of VooV Meeting is backed by the secure and reliable Tencent Cloud, which has multiple layers of protection in terms of business data, management protocols, network equipment and access policy. Tencent Cloud also recently acquired the Multi-Tier Cloud Security Standard (MTCS SS), proving its capability to provide the highest level of security to enterprise cloud users in Malaysia, Asia and around the world.

HelloTalk, the world’s largest language exchange app, releases over 70 free courses in six languages for COVID-19 education and language learning content for those in isolation

SHENZHEN, China, April 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — HelloTalk, a global language learning app and community with 20 million users, is offering a series of free online courses for self-quarantined language learners to pick up a new language through the app without leaving their home.

More than 70 on-demand and large-scale live classes are now available for free in six languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, and Spanish), which are taught using HelloTalk’s e-learning platform. New courses have been added specifically for COVID-19 education, in an effort to help users communicate more clearly with doctors or seek assistance while studying, working, or traveling in a foreign country.

Non-medical related topics are discussed in a livestream format, such as how to maintain productivity while working from home. To date, these courses are available to those living in Mainland China, Japan, Korea, the United States and Europe.

HelloTalk also launched a number of community activities in response to the pandemic, including a shared moment of silence with more than 30,000 users across the globe for those affected by COVID-19.

Along with courses, HelloTalk enables individuals around the world to learn a new language while staying home by chatting with native speakers right from their phone during the quarantine. Each partner teaches the other their native language for free, which is referred to as a “language exchange.” This provides a unique opportunity to chat about the coronavirus situation with locals while learning a new language.

Users are able to engage with each other in multiple ways. One-on-one conversations can be conducted through text, voice, and video calls. Powerful language learning tools like instant translations, corrections, and transliterations help partners converse easily, even without having a firm grasp of their target language. Additionally, users can post and participate in public discussions, which is helpful for understanding the pandemic from a local’s perspective.

HelloTalk’s vision is to use their platform to build a community that strives for cultural understanding and inclusiveness. “Our hope is to spread positivity throughout the world, and in doing so, narrow down the gap between races and cultures. We believe fostering and improving communication among all humans can have an extraordinary impact on uniting us and reducing conflict in the world,” said HelloTalk founder and CEO, Zackery Ngai.

About HelloTalk, Ltd.

Launched in 2012 by Zackery Ngai, HelloTalk is one of the world’s largest language learning and cross-cultural exchange apps. HelloTalk also provides course content as both self-guided lessons and livestream classes with instructors. More than 150 languages are supported, such as Chinese, English, Japanese, French, Korean, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Thai, and Hindi.

SINGAPORE, April 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — YouTrip, Singapore’s first multi-currency mobile wallet with over 500,000 downloads, has noted a shift in user spending habits over the past months. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, both foreign and domestic e-commerce spending has shown resilience in the Singapore market. The top 3 foreign currencies transacted in the month of February include USD, GBP and AUD.

When travel restrictions were heightened in February, YouTrip observed a 20% increase in e- commerce spending via YouTrip’s prepaid Mastercard, in both foreign and domestic categories. This follows the trend reported by a Nielsen study that states online purchases of FMCG have reached 8% in February this year, compared to 6% of total e-commerce spending in 2019.

Have Internet, Will Shop

With circuit breaker measures and travel restrictions in place, YouTrip is seeing a steady flow of foreign transactions take place online instead. The top 5 e-commerce spending categories are Gaming, Fashion, Home Decor, Health and Supplements and Electronics. Popular foreign e- commerce sites have experienced a boom in spending, with the top sites like Taobao seeing a 111% growth rate, with ASOS in second place with a 60% increase, Alibaba in third at 41%, and Aliexpress at 17%.

Caecilia Chu, Co-Founder and CEO of YouTrip, said: “What is equally important to us now is that we are here for our users and supporting them through times of uncertainty. We’ve most recently introduced a new COVID-19 refund policy to help them process any travel-related refunds back into their linked bank accounts, as our commitment towards putting users first remains steadfast.

YouTrip gives users access to competitive wholesale exchange rates where users can exchange over 150 foreign currencies in real-time, with no extra fees. These features mean users can pay in different currencies with a single card, simplifying the way they spend on global sites.

Although YouTrip is primarily a travel card, many users are using YouTrip’s prepaid Mastercard to make purchases within Singapore as well, primarily in the shopping, food and grocery categories. YouTrip saw an increase for local e-commerce sites EZbuy (65%), and Lazada (11%); food delivery from PizzaHut Delivery (49%), Domino’s Pizza (43%), Foodpanda (35%), McDonald’s (19%), and Deliveroo (13%). Online grocery companies have also seen strong growth as the demand for grocery deliveries spike during this period, NTUC online leads at 226%, PrimeNow (13%), EA Mart (8%).

Play At Home While You Stay At Home

Gaming was the category that showed the greatest growth among the categories. As consumers turn to games for entertainment, consoles like the Nintendo Switch has seen global supply shortages. YouTrip has seen the largest increase for purchases from Nintendo in foreign currency- since the AUD experienced a dip against SGD in mid-March. Nintendo purchases made via AUD increased 278%, with JPY at 76%, and purchases made in SGD at a 57% increase. PlayStation and Steam Games have also seen increases, at 60% and 50% respectively.

The implementation of remote work policies has resulted in users also craving more entertainment and communication. YouTrip saw an increase in transactions for entertainment subscription services with users preferring to go for Amazon Prime (26%), Netflix (14%), and Spotify (15%). The shift to telecommuting has also resulted in a huge increase in demand for paid video conferencing services such as Zoom (212%), and Skype (129%).

“YouTrip was created to help solve the cross border payment dilemma and during this period, we are dedicated to helping our users save on foreign currency transactions online, even if they aren’t physically travelling,” added Caecilia.
