Paidy Inc., Japan’s leading "Buy Now, Pay Later" provider, has announced the release of its new app that allows consumers to browse and discover the items they want across thousands of online merchants and use Paidy’s "Single-Pay" or "3-Pay" service to pay for their purchases.

With the new Paidy app, consumers can choose Paidy as their payment method at all online merchants that accept Visa. They can choose to pay next month, or in three interest-free(*1), monthly installments with 3-Pay. A "Shop & Discovery" feature has been built into the app, which allows consumers to browse stores and search for items. Consumers can also select categories they are interested in for suggestions of merchants and items that best suit their interests. By saving their favorite items in the "wishlist," consumers can set up their own, personalized shopping plan. The entire shopping experience, from discovery to purchase, is completed entirely within the Paidy app.

The expansion of merchants that accept Paidy has been achieved through partnerships with Visa and Orico.

With the mission to "Take the hassle out of shopping," Paidy aims to create an environment where everyone can shop wisely and enjoyably. Benefits such as the simple user experience, convenience of next-month single-pay or 3-pay payment, and the ability to manage their money wisely with their smartphone have attracted many consumers, with the number of accounts currently exceeding six million(*2). Paidy can be used at more than 700,000 online merchants, including Amazon and Qoo10, and with the launch of the Paidy Link service in April 2021, it is now possible to shop for the goods that they love at PayPal’s 31 million merchants around the world, all via PayPal checkout. The Paidy Plus for Apple, which launched in June and can be used to make purchases at Apple Retail Stores and the Apple Online Store, has also been well received. The revamping of its app symbolizes Paidy’s bid to go beyond a mere payment service to become the "shopping platform" that customers cannot do without. Mobile shopping is fast becoming standard, with close to 70% of online shoppers mainly using their mobile phone or smartphone to access online shopping services(*3). Paidy offers those consumers a more enjoyable and convenient shopping experience.

Russell Cummer, Founder and Executive Chairman of Paidy Inc., commented: "With the release of the new app, customers will be able to shop anywhere with Paidy. As well as paying for their purchases, they can enjoy the shopping experience itself from within the Paidy app. We believe that enjoyable shopping through Paidy’s super simple customer experience and the wise, comfortable choice of interest-free 3-pay payment will become the de facto standard for online shopping in Japan. Customers can look forward to even better things from Paidy as an innovator in E-commerce."

Paidy will continue to update the shopping experience for its customers through the provision of innovative services.

(*1) Interest-free installment payment is available only with account transfers or bank transfers.

Huawei announces Seeds for the Future Program 2.0, planning to invest US$150 million in talent development over the next five years

MANILA, Philippines, July 14, 2021 — Huawei on Thursday announced its Seeds for the Future Program 2.0, through which Huawei plans to invest US$150 million in digital talent development over the next five years. This program is expected to benefit more than 3 million additional people.

Huawei's Chairman Liang Hua speaks at the Tech & Sustainability: Everyone's Included forum
Huawei’s Chairman Liang Hua speaks at the Tech & Sustainability: Everyone’s Included forum

Huawei held a "Tech & Sustainability: Everyone’s Included" forum, co-hosted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Representatives from Huawei, IUCN, the World Economic Forum, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), and Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) participated to discuss the role of technology in driving sustainability and building a more inclusive, eco-friendly world.

Promoting equal access to education and talent development

According to a 2020 report by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), about 2.2 billion people aged 25 years or younger still lack internet connections at home.

"Digital skills and literacy are not just the foundation for the digital economy; they are also a basic human right defined by the United Nations," said Huawei’s Chairman Liang Hua at the forum. "Today we are announcing Huawei’s Seeds for the Future Program 2.0. As part of our commitment to continuously developing talent, we will invest US$150 million in this program over the next five years and help college students and young people improve their digital skills. This program is expected to benefit more than 3 million additional people."

Huawei is committed to helping develop digital talent in the countries where it operates. In 2008, Huawei began to roll out talent development programs, through scholarships, technology competitions, and digital skills training, and has invested more than US$150 million in these programs. Huawei has since benefited more than 1.54 million people from over 150 countries.

As an echo for the forum, Huawei Asia Pacific held the APAC Media Virtual Roundtable with laser focus on addressing digital inclusion and sustainable development of this region. Jay Chen, Vice President of Huawei Asia Pacific, announced Huawei’s plan to cultivate more than 400,000 ICT talent in the next five years through multiple programs including Seeds for the Future in the region.

"In the digital economy, digital talent is playing an increasingly important role in driving digital transformation and economic growth. The access to education is vital for creating opportunities that support sustainable and fair development. Due to the pandemic, we are moving the program online and opening it up to more outstanding students than ever before," said Jay Chen.

Addressing environmental challenges and enabling green development

Climate change and environmental issues are becoming global challenges. Though carbon emissions declined over the past year due to the economic slowdown and worldwide lockdowns, emissions are rapidly rebounding as economies reopen. Shifting to a circular economy and achieving sustainable development is now a common goal for all countries.

"Green and sustainable development has become a top priority for global economies," said Liang. "Huawei has been leveraging its extensive experience in power electronics and energy storage as well as technical expertise in 5G, cloud, and AI, to develop its digital power business and provide digital power solutions for different industries. As of December 2020, Huawei’s digital power products and solutions have generated 325 billion kWh of electricity from renewable sources, and saved a total of 10 billion kWh of electricity. These efforts have resulted in a reduction of 160 million tons in CO2 emissions."

In Singapore, for example, Huawei FusionSolar Solution has supported Sunseap Group, a solar energy solutions provider, to build the world’s largest offshore floating Photovoltaic (PV) farms. With 13,312 solar panels, 40 inverters, and more than 30,000 floats, this five-hectare sea-based solar plant is estimated to produce up to 6,022,500 kWh of energy per year, supplying enough power for 1250 four-room public housing flats on the island and offsetting an estimated 4258 tons of carbon dioxide, according to Bruce Li, Managing Director of the Huawei Asia-Pacific Enterprise Digital Power Business.

"We feel that over the last decade, ASEAN is shifting from a very defensive, negative footprint or standing to a much more forward leaning. I’m glad to hear that Huawei would be one of companies also doing their part, if not more, through their supply chain," said Associate Professor Simon Tay, Chairman of SIIA at the forum, "By working together, countries can mutually support one another to meet their sustainability commitments. There are many areas where digital technology can support this, such as in enabling a transparent and verifiable carbon market. Singapore’s public and private sectors have expressed interest in working with its neighbors on climate action."

BARCELONA, Spain, July 6, 2021 — The GSMA is celebrating the safe and successful return of MWC Barcelona, the world’s largest mobile ecosystem event. It is humbling that in the most challenging circumstances, people came together for MWC21. Convening this year was possible because of a commitment to innovation and the direct support of the mobile ecosystem, customers, partners, and the community – and the GSMA are very grateful. Without question, this support underlines that mobile technology must continue to play a vital role in the global recovery and that the event created momentum for MWC22.

Entrance to MWC21 in Barcelona

MWC21 was different from past editions. The first physical-virtual event of its kind saw executives, exhibitors and, sponsors taking in keynotes, networking, visiting exhibits and, deal-making over four days.

"I am proud of the team for delivering a high-quality event in an extraordinarily complex environment. The pandemic has indelibly changed how we gather. We had to develop new health and safety protocols and a hybrid platform but, we did it! It was only possible because of a community of support for which I am very grateful," said Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA. "I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be back and, I’m encouraged that thousands more joined us virtually. MWC21 created momentum and is helping us reimagine what events look like. Bring on MWC22."

The health and safety plan, Committed Community, was critical in bringing people together safely and, its elements were seen and felt everywhere. Approved by the Catalan Health Authorities, the plan was developed for the event and delivered in partnership with Quironprovencion. They administered thousands of tests and expertly cared for all involved. Attendees have been complimentary of the plan, and the GSMA is grateful for the cooperation of all who attended. We all played a role in creating a safe environment allowing us to be together for the first time in 15 months.

Our thanks

Planning this year was beyond complicated; MWC21 became a reality because of the strength and commitment of our staff and partners. A special thanks to the GSMA team, Barcelona City Council, Generalitat de Catalunya, the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transformation, Fira de Barcelona, Tourism de Barcelona (the Host City Parties), the L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and people of Catalonia and Spain. Your support this year meant that we delivered MWC21 with excellence, a testament to the trust and collaboration this community has developed over years of working together.

"We have a new appreciation for the value of human connection and, for me, being together again at MWC21 in Barcelona has been inspiring," said John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd. "Last February, we were faced with a fast-moving coronavirus and were the first organisation to cancel a large international event over health and safety concerns. Last week we reignited business by bringing together the mobile and adjacent vertical ecosystems at MWC21 in a safe and healthy environment. The dynamism of global circumstances meant that we had to evaluate and re-invent operational processes in partnership with our teams to make MWC a reality. I’m proud of the team and profoundly grateful for everyone who played a role in bringing the industry back together again."

A special thanks to our MWC21 partners and sponsors. Your support helped make this possible.

Applitools Unveils Innovative New Approach for Native Mobile Test Automation

Powered by Visual AI, the Applitools Ultrafast Test Cloud adds support for massively parallel automated testing of native mobile apps

SAN MATEO, Calif., June 29, 2021 — Applitools, provider of next generation test automation platform through Visual AI and Ultrafast Test Cloud, today announced the most revolutionary advancement in automated testing for native mobile apps in over a decade at Future of Testing: Mobile event. Applitools previewed its Ultrafast Test Cloud for Native Mobile, which provides the ability to run functional and visual tests faster, more reliably, and more securely via its unique Visual AI powered Ultrafast Test Cloud technology.

The new offer allows teams to run automated tests on native mobile apps on a single device and then instantly renders it across any combination of mobile devices and tablets specified. This unique approach was first introduced by Applitools last year for web and responsive web applications and has quickly become the automation platform of choice for over 150 of the world’s top brands. The addition of support for native mobile apps  enables superior reliability and stability that only Applitools Visual AI can deliver. The company is creating a world where native mobile app testing can finally keep pace with mobile app development, and realization of the "dream" workflow where developers can catch bugs earlier in the process by running full suites at blazing fast speeds on every pull request.

Applitools launched its free early access program today and access will be granted on a limited basis at first, with prioritization given to those who register first. To request access or learn more, visit (https://applitools.com/early-access/).

Native mobile testing from an automation perspective has been traditionally difficult. To date, the only other available solutions on the market are lab providers with emulators, simulators or real devices that still have to run tests on every device independently. This approach is cost-prohibitive, slow, insecure, and error-prone. Applitools’ new approach is solving this pain point through automation and artificial intelligence to provide massive amounts of stable test coverage while streamlining the test maintenance process. This ensures a higher level of quality for native mobile apps previously considered "out of reach".

"This is the first meaningful evolution of how to test native mobile apps for the software industry in a long time," said Gil Sever, CEO and co-founder of Applitools. "People are increasingly going to mobile for everything. One major area of improvement needed in delivering better mobile apps faster, is centered around QA and testing. This year Tuya Smart will showcase the Company’s wide range of connectivity solutions at the MWC. Tuya Smart offers one-stop solutions for developers building IoT-enabled personal transporter and tracking devices that are compatible with various protocols including Bluetooth, NB-IoT, GPRS and LTE Cat 1.
