OneWeb’s Successful Launch, Paves The Way For Commercial Services

– OneWeb confirms successful launch and contact with all 36 satellites

– The latest deployment brings the in-orbit constellation to 110 satellites

– OneWeb on track to launch regional commercial service in 2021 and global service in 2022

LONDON, Dec.19,  2020 — OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, has confirmed the successful launch of all 36 satellites from a Soyuz launch vehicle, which began flight from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. This brings the total in-orbit constellation to 110 satellites, part of OneWeb’s 648 LEO satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity.

Lift-off occurred on 18 December at 12:26 GMT. OneWeb’s satellites separated from the rocket and were dispensed in nine batches over a period of 3 hours 52 minutes with signal acquisition on all 36 satellites confirmed.

Less than a month since its acquisition by the UK Government and Bharti Global, OneWeb is quickly returning to full operations — hiring at a fast pace, restarting launches, continuing to build its ground station network, and pushing forward on user terminal development.

The success of this launch will put OneWeb on track to offer global services to customers starting with the United Kingdom, Alaska, Northern Europe, Greenland, Iceland, the Artic Seas, and Canada in 2021 with global service following in 2022.

Neil Masterson, OneWeb CEO commented: "It’s inspiring to be part of a fast-returning organisation refocused on our mission of bringing connectivity to everyone, everywhere. Each launch moves us closer to our goal of building this much needed global, secure, trusted, enterprise-grade broadband network, powered from space. We look forward to offering our commercial services to global users."

UK Business Secretary Alok Sharma said: "With OneWeb’s latest satellites taking to the skies we come one step closer to connecting people across the globe with fast, UK-backed broadband and just months after British government investment made this possible.

The UK can be proud of being at the heart of the latest long-term advances in space technology."

"Today’s launch is one of many steps we have taken to operationalise one of the world’s first LEO constellations which clearly demonstrates we are on our way to achieving our mission. Overall, there is an overwhelming demand for broadband and the pandemic has taxed infrastructure everywhere and many people worldwide are left with little to no options to access the internet. OneWeb’s system will help meet existing and future demand by delivering broadband connectivity to communities, towns, and regions left unconnected or under-connected." said Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises.

[Ending poverty in China: Data speak] How can we make rural people’s lives better

BEIJING, Dec. 18, 2020 — A video by China.org.cn: housing, drinking water, transportation are the basic elements of happiness. How did China make rural people’s lives better?

Safe housing is an important source of happiness.

From 2013 to 2019, the central government provided US$28 billion to improve housing for rural people, and the average housing subsidy for each rural family was raised from US$1,120 to US$2,090.

7.33 million rural families representing 23 million rural people, equivalent to the population of Australia, have moved to safe and spacious new houses over the last 7 years.

From 1978 to 2018, per capita housing space in rural areas increased nearly fivefold. The average family of four now occupies a 190 sqm apartment compared with a 32 sqm one.

Since 2016, the central government has invested a total of US$4 billion to provide clean and safe drinking water in rural areas improving the lives of more than 17 million impoverished people.

As of 2019, 87% of rural areas had access to a central water supply and the tap water coverage in rural areas had reached 82%.

"Electricity for every household" has been fully realized in poor areas so that every household has access to a reliable and stable electricity supply.

99,000 km of new arterial roads have been built, the equivalent of circling the global two and a half times.

100% of administrative villages have paved roads – the "last mile" problem has been solved.

4G coverage in administrative villages, and internet coverage in rural villages have both topped 98%. Rural villages are connected to the internet, and the outside world is no longer out of reach.

By the first half of 2019, domestic waste was being collected and treated in 84% of administrative villages and almost 30% of farm households had their domestic sewage treated. The proportion of domestic waste and sewage treatment is increasing steadily.

BEIJING, Dec. 16, 2020 — A video by China.org.cn: China’s poverty reduction work about health care. How did China solve the problem of poverty caused by ill-health.

In the past 70 years, life expectancy in China has improved from 35 to 77.3 years, higher than global average life expectancy of 72 years.

In 2019, the input of medical treatment aid funding from central government was US$35 million. 77.82 million people were helped to join basic medical insurance, and 61.8 million people received direct assistance.

A complete system of national healthcare insurance is almost in place covering 99.9% of rural population nationwide. The triple guarantee system covers almost every individual.

25 diseases are now listed for critical illness assistance. The treatment of critical illness, and the classified treatment scheme has been steadily improved.

98.7% of patients suffering from critical and chronic diseases have received treatment. Great efforts are being made to assist patients with critical and chronic diseases.

Since 2015, 14,000 more general practitioner have started working in rural areas, and 60,000 village doctors have received training.

Universal access to health examinations, including cervical and breast cancer screenings and pre-pregnancy checkups for rural women contribute to a low national maternal mortality ratio, which is well within the SDG 3 target.

Delta’s POD Data Center Solution Enables Vietnam’s First Uptime TCCF TIER III-Certified Data Center for Hanoi Telecom’s Subsidiary HTC-ITC

TAIPEI, Dec. 16, 2020 — Delta, a global leader in power and thermal management solutions, today announced the successful implementation of its energy-saving POD (Point of Delivery) data center solution to enable Vietnam’s first Uptime TCCF (Tier Certification of Constructed Facility) TIER III-certified data center for HTC-ITC, a subsidiary of Hanoi Telecom. The TIER III certification by the U.S.-based Uptime Institute entails an annual uptime of 99.982% for this newly-implemented data center. This IT facility is also expected to achieve an eco-friendly high-efficiency-grade(1) annual power use effectiveness (PUE) value as low as 1.4 through the support of Delta’s high-efficiency uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, in-row precision cooling, environmental monitoring platform, racks, accessories, and the Data Center Infrastructure Monitoring (DCIM) system for comprehensive and remote control.

Madam Trinh Minh Chau, chairwoman of HTC-ITC, expressed her delight to corporate with Delta Electronics, a foreign global enterprise. Their aim for cooperation with Delta is to build the best quality data center and to provide world-class service to customers in Vietnam and around the world.

Mr. Victor Cheng, Delta’s senior vice president and general manager of its Information Communication Technology Infrastructure Business Group said, "We applaud the continuous efforts of HTC-ITC and its parent company Hanoi Telecom to facilitate next-generation ICT infrastructure for their customers in Vietnam. Being able to construct the country’s first Uptime TIER III-certified data center for HTC-ITC is truly an honor for Delta. Together with our partners and customers in the region, we are building the foundations of the 5G networks that will support substantial economic growth for years to come."

HTC-ITC’s new data center, located in the Hoa Lac High-Tech Zone occupies 750 square meters and has a total power capacity of 750kW original requirement + 750kW for redundant power protection, in line with Uptime’s TIER III 2N architecture specifications. This data center is expandable to 900 racks in total. Delta’s highly modular and scalable POD data center solution provides the ideal flexibility and reliability to achieve that rigorous qualification.  Unlike TIER I and TIER II, the Uptime TIER III Constructed Facility Certification (TCCF)-certified data centers do not allow shutdowns during maintenance or replacement. For example, in addition to the 99.982% annual uptime requirement, float voltage on the isolated equipment must be close to 0 while no hotspots with a temperature over 25°C are allowed. The data center of HTC-ITC has reached 52 tests to pass the TCCF certification, the first time ever for a data center built in Vietnam.

Delta’s energy-saving POD data center solution also provides integral support for this new IT facility to achieve the expected annual PUE of 1.4. The solution combines the DPH series modular UPS system and the in-row precision cooling system with variable fan speed control to facilitate hot aisle containment or cold aisle containment architectures. The DCIM platform to enable comprehensive and remote monitoring and control of entire and multiple data centers; as well as racks and accessories to simplify implementation processes for enhanced efficiency and performance. Moreover, the POD solution offers a fully modular design that helps customers with a pay-as-you-grow concept and rapid installation process to meet the rapidly growing needs of high-speed 5G networks and IoT applications.
