TurtleTree Labs, the global leader in cell based milk, launches TurtleTree Scientific

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 6, 2021 — TurtleTree Labs, the global leader in cell-based milk, today announced the launch of TurtleTree Scientific, dedicated to the growth of food grade growth factors. Despite the costs of producing cell-based meat declining over the years, the cell culture media and growth factors remain one of the biggest cost contributors, hindering the path to market.

What does this mean for the cellular agriculture industry? In early 2021, TurtleTree Scientific will be working with cell-based meat companies on the production of food grade growth factors. The prices are expected to be a fraction of pharmaceutical grade equivalents on the market. Singapore, as the first country in the world to approve the sale of cell based meat products, is strategic as the country is bound to attract the attention of more cell-based companies and has existing customers that it can scale with.

The availability of cost-efficient growth factors will be essential for cellular agriculture to validate its economic feasibility. In addition, Singapore is also a regional biotech hub where quality growth factors are in high demand for their use in the life sciences industry.

Bruce Fredrich the executive director of Good Food Institute is very excited for this launch. "Singapore for the win again. The exciting work being done at Turtle Tree Labs is happening with tremendous support from the government, and other governments need to follow Singapore’s lead. Governments are interested in stopping the next pandemic and in keeping antibiotics working, and governments want to meet their climate obligations under the Paris climate agreement, so governments should be following Singapore’s lead and doing all they can to create a welcoming environment for innovative companies like TurtleTree Labs. Right now, Singapore is in a class by itself; other governments need to step up."

"Not only are we collaborating with local research institutes like NUS and NTU, but also global institutions like Wageningen University in the Netherlands. We have already started sending some samples to other cell based meat companies and aim to play a major role in this industry," says Max Rye, Chief Strategist of TurtleTree Labs.

TurtleTree Labs has recently raised US$9.4M from investors which include Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed’s KBW Ventures and Hong Kong venture capital firm Green Monday Ventures. As an arm of TurtleTree Labs, TurtleTree Scientific will have its own team of experienced industry players driving it.

Irish Technology deployed in South Africa as part of International Music Events re-opening

DUBLIN, Dec. 23, 2020 — Irish-based Health Passport Europe has partnered with Big Concerts and The Entertainment Group to safely re-open the events industry in South Africa, using latest developments in rapid COVID-19 testing and the secure Health Passport Europe mobile technology.

The Health Passport Europe digital platform was deployed at this year’s RECHARGE 2020 event in Cape Town, South Africa, using latest COVID-19 testing and mobile technology as part of the safe re-opening of the live events sector.
The Health Passport Europe digital platform was deployed at this year’s RECHARGE 2020 event in Cape Town, South Africa, using latest COVID-19 testing and mobile technology as part of the safe re-opening of the live events sector.

The live event RECHARGE 2020 took place on December 21st in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Grand Café & Beach venue, with multiple live acts and DJs. The event passed off safely to represent an important stepping-stone towards a wider reopening of live events in 2021.

The platform, which efficiently supports COVID-19 vaccinations and testing, is set to be deployed at events in Italy and Portugal, where the system can be used to safely re-open the tourist sector.

How Health Passport Europe Works

Ahead of the RECHARGE 2020 event, all attendees including staff were required to download and set up the Health Passport Europe mobile app for free. On the day of the event, everyone was tested for COVID-19 before entering, using latest rapid antigen tests that are already validated for use in South Africa.

All staff, performers and guests were tested before the event. Multiple positive detections were successfully made during pre-testing. Anyone who tested positive was not permitted onto the event site but was given professional medical advice.

Within 20 minutes of testing, the results are updated privately and securely to the person’s Health Passport Europe app. At entry, security staff were able to quickly scan the person’s ticket and the person’s Health Passport Europe app, and only those with a negative COVID-19 test were allowed into the venue, ensuring the lowest levels of transmission risk for all. COVID-19 health guidelines were also followed by all within the event site.

People who presented for pre-testing who had COVID-19 symptoms were not tested but instead advised to follow national health guidelines.

Justin Van Wyk, CEO of Big Concerts said: "This was an important moment for the events industry which has been devastated by the pandemic. Using the Health Passport Europe platform allowed this event to proceed with the highest levels of risk mitigation, demonstrating the way forward for live events globally. The system allowed us to offer pre- and post-event testing for maximum reassurance, protecting attendees, performers and everyone connected with the event."

Robert Quirke, founder of Health Passport Europe, said: "Our team is excited and humbled to have worked on this project for Cape Town and to have contributed to the safe reopening of international entertainment and tourism. The secure technology is engineered to work with all official COVID-19 tests and vaccinations. Many thousands of people are already using the mobile system and it is helping industries to return."

The Health Passport Europe platform has been adopted by many leading medical and pharmacy organisations that are providing COVID-19 testing services. The technology has passed all trials and development, having been extensively tested across a range of industries including healthcare, logistics, hospitality, education, and nursing homes, as well as a trial at Dublin Airport.

The process has already been engineered to safely test over 100,000 people within 10 hours, with the results, travel certificates or vaccination documents immediately uploaded within the person’s app.

The Health Passport Europe system has been engineered as a secure system for people to store and display their official COVID-19 vaccination or test status. It is a common international platform for all industries and the public.

Secret behind speedy construction of Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals

BEIJING, Dec. 12, 2020 — A news report by China.org.cn:

At the beginning of 2020, billions of netizens at home and abroad joined online and cheered for the speedy construction of two hospitals in Wuhan. It was during the Spring Festival when CSCEC built two emergency hospitals – Huoshenshan and Leishenshan – in 10 and 12 days, respectively. The daunting tasks were completed by CSCEC through its robust supply chain and rapid construction capacity, backed by its core technologies and scientific innovations.

New model of Chinese construction

Facing dire conditions, CSCEC formulated an integrated technical standard for the emergency hospitals, from design, manufacturing, construction to operation. By translating the techniques into modular products and systematic manufacturing, the company managed to achieve speedy construction and delivery within an extremely short time.

CSCEC orchestrated a staggered workflow model with standardized components, sophisticated timeline, and systematic organization. All feasible tasks were carried out simultaneously to achieve the highest efficiency. It also used the Beidou navigation system for the precise location and to survey of the original topography and geomorphology.

New height of ‘Chinese Construction Speed’

The structures and layouts of Huoshenshan and Leishenshan were highly modular. The ward buildings take on a cabinet structure that can be assembled and combined to form medical units. And the space for medical staff and patients was neatly divided to minimize the risk of cross infection. All patient rooms were container structures built with anti-firing and anti-combustion materials, meticulously designed to be pre-fabricated in factories and assembled on site, like putting together a set of building blocks.

Because of their unique functions and higher standards of regulation, hospitals for infectious diseases are very complex in and of itself. The construction involves hundreds of companies and occupations, not to mention tens of thousands of materials and equipment – from the heavy machinery, container structures, basic construction materials, negative pressure system for ventilation, impermeable materials of environmental quality standards, medical oxygen tanks, to air conditioners and bath and toilet appliances for patient rooms, and desks and chairs for medical offices. All the manufacturing and shipping were undertaken by Chinese companies, clearly demonstrating China’s strength in infrastructure construction and hardware production. It also showcased CSCEC’s capacity in planning, coordinating, and organizing industrial production and supply chain.

The competitive edge of Chinese construction

The entire construction process of Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals was supported by CSCEC’s digital regulation platform – Intelligent Construction Site – which was built upon technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and big data. By linking the 17 information systems of five categories most commonly used by hospitals, it constituted an "intelligent brain," offering a smart security system, smart logistics, smart imaging reading, and zero-contact operation. By applying building information modeling, the construction team was able to run digital simulation of laying cords and pipes with a total length of 360,000 meters, and more than 6,000 pieces of information. A three-dimensional model was generated with data and designated numbers, which was further attuned by on-site workers to the highest precision. In this way, more than 100 sub-contract projects, thousands of procedures, and more than 40,000 construction workers could work seamlessly and advance synchronously.

In addition, due to their proximity to large water bodies, the disposal of medical waste and waste water treatment was closely watched by the public as well. CSCEC worked strictly in accordance with "Construction Standards of Hospitals for infectious Diseases," executed bio-safety disposal of waste water, waste materials, and pollutants, and accomplished the goals of "zero spreading" and "zero infection."

Application of technological innovations overseas

Building upon its construction experience in China, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) gives full play to its advantages in providing turnkey solutions and integrated construction capabilities. CSCEC continuously promotes innovative construction technologies such as green, smart, and safe construction to go global. Major projects overseas have also demonstrated the company’s profound technology accumulation and innovation capabilities.

The China-funded Butuka Academy of Papua New Guinea is a prefabricated steel modular building constructed by CSCEC. Based on the local climatic and site conditions, its design adopted local architectural features such as large roofs and bottom overhead, and aims to make the building more ecologically and environmentally friendly on the premise of fully satisfying the functions and practicability of the building.

In November 2019, the Sukkur-Multan section of the Pakistan Peshawar-Karachi Motorway (PKM) undertaken by CSCEC was officially opened to traffic. PKM is the largest transportation infrastructure project along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. This project took the lead in adopting modified asphalt technology from China and green construction to build the entire route. Being able to withstand a once-in-100-year flood, it is a highway project of the highest design standard and most advanced intelligent systems in Pakistan.

In March 2020, the sea-crossing Temburong Bridge in Brunei was inaugurated. This bridge is a fully-prefabricated viaduct that has the most spans in the world to date. CSCEC employed the "fishing method" – meaning to build a bridge on the bridge – in the construction process to solve environmental problems. During construction, all the machinery and equipment stayed in the air without making contact with the marshland or damaging the rainforest. Pile foundation and pile cap construction, T-beam erection, and other operations were all completed on mobile steel platforms. Compared to traditional bridge construction methods, this project adopted full prefabricated construction that is more energy-saving and environmentally friendly. Components were manufactured at one site and assembled at another. Moving component manufacturing to a workshop not only freed up space on the construction site, but also greatly reduced the impact of dust, mud, and other construction waste on the virgin forest.

With a height of 528 meters, China Zun is the first skyscraper over 500 meters in the world that stands on an area of 8-degree seismic fortification intensity. The construction process adopted the new generation of aerial work platform independently developed by CSCEC. This platform has a carrying capacity of over 2,000 metric tons and can withstand a force-14 hurricane. It also achieved the integration of a 3,000-metric-ton tower crane and the platform. This technology was also applied in the Iconic Tower project in the central business district of Egypt’s new administrative capital. In the construction process of the Iconic Tower, the fastest building speed of the aerial work platform reached one level in five days, which greatly improved the construction efficiency and set a record in Egypt’s construction industry.

Technological innovation is the core driving force for promoting the high-quality development of the construction industry. To explore new construction methods is to realize innovation-driven development. Adhering to the corporate mission of "expanding a happy living environment," CSCEC will continuously pursue innovation-led development, strengthen technological support, and strive to develop smart construction, green construction, industrialized construction, and other technological fields, in order to contribute to the development of the global construction industry.

Last month Entain announced a new strategy to deliver significant growth, driven by expansion in the U.S., growth across its core business, entry into new markets, and to new audiences. Entain, which has a very strong track record of 19 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in its online business, also committed to lead responsible gaming with a new Sustainability Charter. Under this charter, the business pledged to focus only on regulated markets and use its proprietary technology to raise levels of player protection.

As part of these plans to deliver growth and sustainability, Entain today confirmed strong momentum and market share gains in the U.S. for BetMGM, its joint venture with MGM Resorts. Between October and January BetMGM is adding five new states, doubling its population reach in three months to around 75 million across 12 states. Entain also disclosed that BetMGM’s most recent state launch in Tennessee has been its most successful go-live yet with revenues already ahead of those in more established states. Powered by Entain technology, BetMGM expects to be in over 20 states by the end of 2021.

"We are firmly on track to take further leadership in the U.S. as well as in many other newly regulated markets that are now opening around the world." said Segev. "At the heart of our growth strategy is a determination to bring the best player experiences and protections to our industry as technology moves sport and interactive entertainment into a new era. In the U.S., we invested in building the right building blocks for the BetMGM platform to grow and become a long-term leader in the U.S., with superior technology and capabilities, and this is now paying off."

Entain also fleshed out its new Sustainability Charter, allocating money to new projects which will be delivered through its international Foundation around the world. It also gave further detail on its new Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC) initiative, seeking to revolutionise player experiences and protection through world-leading research, data science and technology. Other new measures include:

Focus on new regulated markets: In line with its stated intention to focus on fully regulated markets, Entain today announced it has become the first global sports betting and gaming operator to gain a licence in Latin America and expects to go live in Colombia over the next month. Colombia is one of the first countries to issue licences in Latin America with others, such as Brazil preparing to follow. Elsewhere in the Americas, Canada is also moving ahead with regulation and Entain confirmed it will be applying for licencing in Canada.

  • Investing in people and communities: Entain has pledged to invest £100 million over five years in the Entain Foundation to fund responsible gaming initiatives and to support people and communities around the world where it operates. Today, it announced a series of international commitments:

UK: Entain and the three Trident Leagues (The Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues) are to launch the Trident Community Foundation to help fund community-based projects. Grants will be open for the 228 football clubs that participate in the leagues.
"Pitching In", Entain’s recently launched grassroots sport investment programme, is the founding partner of the Trident Community Foundation (TCF) and has donated £150,000 to establish the TCF fund, for distribution over the rest of the 2020/21 season.

US: The Entain Foundation is rolling out an extensive state-by-state program with EPIC, a charitable organisation which works with former athletes and people who have overcome gambling addiction to help educate people on how to play safely.

The U.S. project announced today with EPIC extends the program to a total of 15 Pro Sports teams and over 20 colleges across the country, including Harvard University, University of Oregon, and the Mid-American Conference. Entain and EPIC plan to work together to add additional professional sports leagues and colleges across the US during 2021.

Germany: The Entain Foundation will continue existing sports integrity projects in Germany and receive early funds to initiate further activities around responsible gaming.

Australia:  The Foundation has announced initial new projects to advance responsible gaming with Relationships Australia, a community-based not for profit organisation which provides a range of counselling and support services to problem gamblers and their families. The new funding will be used to support a social media campaign to reach vulnerable audiences and to raise awareness of the signs of gambling addiction.

  • Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC): Under this recently announced programme, Entain will combine its technology with research and insight from leading psychologists and Harvard to develop innovative experiences and safeguards for a new era in interactive sport and entertainment. To this end, Entain today announced that:

    Dr. Michael Auer,
a leading academic and member of the scientific community at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, specialising in behavioural psychology and addiction, will join Entain alongside Professor Mark Griffiths, Distinguished Professor of Behavioral Addiction and Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. They will evaluate and advise on improvements to Entain’s guidelines and processes in relation to responsible gaming.
