Hisense has once again been named to Fortune China’s ESG Influential Listing

The companies selected in the list have made remarkable efforts to improve the environment, protect employees and support communities, and are exploring a path to sustainable and inclusive growth. With an increasingly significant focus on social responsibility (which forms part of China’s “dual carbon” strategy), Hisense also recognizes the importance of a global effort that goes beyond Asia to the benefit of all other countries across the globe.

The Fortune China’s ESG List 2023 noted: “This year, Hisense was especially highlighted for its work that takes advantage of the ‘Solar photovoltaic, Energy storage, Direct current and Flexibility'(PEDF) building opportunity created by China to create and employ advanced self-developed technology for central air conditioning systems. This advancement changes the air conditioning system from a large power consumer to a transfer station of the distributed energy system. This solves the disadvantages of large power consumption and high carbon emission of traditional air conditioning, and realizes the technical innovation of the traditional air conditioning industry.”

“Additionally, Hisense has improved water use efficiency and the reduction of water pollution across various fields, such as plant site selection, technical transformation implementation, production and manufacturing and supply chain partner selection. At the same time, the company actively promotes the recycling of industrial wastewater nearby, optimizes the reuse rate of industrial wastewater in the factory and continuously reduces the consumption of new water.”

Aspiring to become the most reliable brand in the world with more than a century of brand heritage, Hisense is in continual pursuit of providing technological innovation to millions of families globally with high-quality products and bringing excellent experiences to people’s life.

BLUETTI Launches Trade-in Program to Encourage Upgrades and Sustainable Living

LAS VEGAS, May 5, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — BLUETTI, a provider of eco-friendly portable power solutions, has launched a new trade-in program to promote sustainability. The program allows customers to upgrade their power stations in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way.

What is BLUETTI’s trade in program?

It allows customers to trade in their old EB55, EB70, and EB70S devices for a site-wide coupon that can be used to save on new BLUETTI products. This eco-friendly program gives the devices to new owners or recycles the materials inside.

How does it work

Customers in the United States and Europe can evaluate their units and submit their trade-in request on the BLUETTI website. After agreeing to the estimated trade-in quote, customers can ship the units back to BLUETTI for inspection. If the unit works as described, the customer can choose a trade-in coupon for a future purchase or receive a corresponding refund with the new order. If the unit is not in good working order, a new estimated trade-in value will be provided, which the customer can either accept or reject. After the customer confirms the rejection, the unit will be returned, and the customer will be responsible for all shipping charges.

What units can be upgraded to?

BLUETTI offers various models, including the AC200Max, AC300+B300, and AC500+B300S, that customers can upgrade to. The AC200Max has an expandable capacity of up to 8,192Wh or 6,144Wh with B230/B300 expansion batteries, 2,2000W of power, and 16 outlets. The AC300+B300 combo has a capacity ranging from 3,072Wh to a maximum of 12,288Wh, and the AC500+B300S combo has a flexible capacity of up to 18,432Wh.

EB55/EB70/EB70S trade-in values
The following units are eligible for BLUETTI Trade In:
EB70/EB70S: Max up to $240
EB55: Max up to $190

Note: BLUETTI will only cover the cost of shipping back if the unit meet the trade-in standard.

The trade-in value of the unit will depend on its condition. The values listed above are the maximum amounts for units that are undamaged. Man-made damage, inoperable buttons, water damage, etc. can reduce the value significantly, even down to $0. However, BLUETTI will still give a $10 off coupon on orders over $1000.

Trade in accessories and packages

  • Friendly to B300 Users

The AC500 is compatible with B300 and B300S, so the AC300 owners can gain 170% power by purchasing an AC500 instead of replacing the entire system. They can also be mixed in an AC500 system (up to 4 packs in total).

  • Is AC300 still worth it?

When considering the price difference of up to $999, the AC300 may be a more budget-friendly option for users who don’t require extreme performance. Yet, the AC500 would be a better choice for those living in colder areas, as it offers higher power and more efficient charge/discharge rates.

TECH4ALL: Driving Inclusion and Sustainability with Partnerships

– Huawei and its global partners hosted a media roundtable at HAS2023

SHENZHEN, China, April 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — At a media roundtable held yesterday at Huawei Global Analyst Summit 2023, Huawei and its global partners shared the latest TECH4ALL practices and discussed how digital technology enables a more inclusive and sustainable digital world.

Huawei and partners held TECH4ALL roundtable on Day 2 at HAS 2023
Huawei and partners held TECH4ALL roundtable on Day 2 at HAS 2023

During the session, several of Huawei’s global TECH4ALL partners also made updates on projects that are currently running across the globe. A key message was that for each project, the powerful combination of technology and partnerships has been fundamental to driving positive outcomes.

“All our efforts in TECH4ALL initiatives have only been possible due to the combination of technology and partnerships,” said Jeffrey Zhou, President of ICT Marketing for Huawei in his opening remarks at the roundtable.

Since the initiative’s launch in 2019, Huawei has worked closely with governments, customers, international organizations, research institutes, and NGOs to make the social value of digital technology as far-reaching as possible.

Driving Equity and Quality in Education

To drive inclusion and help build sustainable futures, TECH4ALL education projects have so far reached 220,000 beneficiaries globally. Priority beneficiaries are remote and rural communities and underserved groups, including women and girls, unemployed youth, people with disabilities, the elderly, and K12 students and teachers.

During the roundtable, YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation shared its vision underlining how technology-based support platforms empower early-career teachers in rural areas by providing online training to develop their professional capabilities and confidence.

“The greatest development is the development of human beings. In the future, we would love to continue working with Huawei, enhancing rural education through technology,” said Hui Ling, Secretary General for YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation.

Conserving Nature with Technology

In the area of sustainability and nature conservation, TECH4ALL projects have helped conserve biodiversity efficiently and manage natural resources sustainably in 46 protected areas across the globe, including 5 pilot projects under the Tech4Nature partnership set up in 2020 between Huawei and International Union for Conservation of Nature.

“When we talk about biodiversity and area-based conservation, technology can really help us in assisting in monitoring and strengthening reporting on biodiversity, climate and area-based conservation targets,” said Khalid Pasha, Asia Coordinator, IUCN Asia Regional Office.

During the roundtable, TECH4ALL partner C Minds shared on the Mexico Tech4Nature project. Launched in May 2022 with IUCN, C Minds and other local partners, the project is harnessing the power of AI and community centered approaches to safeguard biodiversity in the Dzilam State Reserve, including the endangered North American jaguar.

“The use of technologies provides the ability to scale up conservation action to unprecedented levels and ensure shorter time frames, which we achieved in this case, that the results of years of manual tagging and data interpretation were achieved in less than 1 year of working together with technology and partnerships. It also provides the ability to create transparent and measurable impact,” said Regina Cervera Pacheco, Project Coordinator for C Minds.

Using ICT to Boost Rural Development

ITU-D also attended the session to update on the Smart Village Pakistan project. Launched in January 2023, this project model accelerates the impact of multiple SDGs by increasing last-mile access and provides remote villages with access to a range of digital services, including e-health, e-education, and e-commerce with a view to improving the quality of life and economic opportunities.

Pakistan is ITU’s first smart village programme in Asia Pacific under the Smart Villages and Smart Islands initiative. We are very proud of partnering with the Government of Pakistan and Huawei in this. These kinds of pilots also bring in new partners, who can bring about even bigger changes. I’d like to thank all those who have stepped in to make this a success.” said Ashish Narayan, Program Coordinator at the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

With the TECH4ALL partners at the media roundtable clearly showing what working together with common goals can achieve in practice, Huawei hopes to continue enabling inclusion and sustainability through innovative technologies and long-term partnerships.

About Huawei TECH4ALL

Seal Storage Technology and the University of Utah Announce NASA Climate Data Democratization Partnership

Over 200TB of NASA climate data is now accessible through the collaboration between Seal Storage Technology and the University of Utah’s Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCI), enabling researchers around the world to access and visualize the data with zero egress fees.

TORONTO and SALT LAKE CITY, April 13, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — In an effort to democratize data access, decentralized cloud storage provider Seal Storage Technology and the University of Utah’s Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCI) announced today that over 200 terabytes  (TB) of OpenViSUS IDX NASA  atmospheric wind velocity and ocean current datasets are now openly available to researchers globally. The data will be accessible via a Jupyter notebook, which is a digital document that makes it easy to access and visualize data by combining text, code, and visualizations in a single medium. This project is part of SCI’s participation in The National Science Data Fabric  (NSDF), a trans-disciplinary approach to integrated data delivery and access, democratizing data-driven scientific discovery through shared storage, networking, computing, and educational resources.

“The democratization of data is essential to scientific progress, and we are thrilled to partner with the University of Utah to make this possible,” said Seal Storage Technology COO Alex Altman. “Seal’s decentralized cloud storage platform ensures that this valuable data is accessible to researchers around the world, without barriers. We are excited to see the future discoveries and insights that will be made possible by making this important data available and by supporting the mission of NSDF.”

Researchers around the globe will now be able to access the NASA OpenVisus data with zero egress fees as the data is stored on Seal’s decentralized cloud storage platform, which is powered by the Filecoin network. Egress fees are typically charged by centralized cloud storage providers when users want to move or access their data. In contrast, decentralized cloud storage leverages distributed ledger technology to store data at centers across the globe, offering a novel way to store data and remove egress fees. This global distribution ensures that the NASA data is immutable, verifiable, and has a chain of custody.

The data democratization partnership will provide researchers with new ways to access and utilize NASA’s climate data, including navigation via timestamps, fields, and other dimensions. This is made possible by transferring the data from NASA supercomputers to Seal’s platform, which then enables the data to be accessed via a Jupyter notebook.

“The NSDF project is making significant progress towards more open access to critical cyberinfrastructure,” said Manish Parashar, Director of the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute. “Having shared data cyberinfrastructure at scale, such as what NSDF envisions, can accelerate scientific discovery across a broad range of disciplines. It can also broaden access to the data by new groups of researchers.”

This dataset is an output of a simulation that combines two models to provide high-resolution data on atmospheric and oceanic variables. The first model is a C1440 configuration of Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) atmospheric model, whereas the second model is a LLC2160 configuration of the MITgcm model. There are over 10000 timesteps in each output, and each of them has multiple scalar fields such as temperature, snow thickness, east-west velocity, etc. With the help of Jupyter notebooks, researchers are now able to navigate across all timesteps and dimensions of certain fields (e.g. East-west velocity ‘U’) of both the atmospheric dataset and LLC2160 ocean dataset.

“This is a major milestone of the National Science Data Fabric (NSDF) that gives all scientists, engineers, and regular citizens direct access to massive data of major societal importance without needing expensive hardware resources,” said Valerio Pascucci, NSDF Principal Investigator, Professor at Kahlert School of Computing, and Director of the Center for Extreme Data Management and Visualization (CEDMAV) at the University of Utah. “This partnership between academia and industry shows how anyone with a laptop and an internet connection can now visualize and analyze data that until now has been the sole monopoly of a selected few with the special access and training needed to use some of the largest supercomputers in the world.”

Researchers can access the NASA data on the following web dashboard http://chpc1.nationalsciencedatafabric.org:10888/nasa or visualize the data locally by downloading the Jupyter notebook here: http://bit.ly/3MkpVBa. The current 200TB of data constitutes the first installation of this ambitious multi-petabyte project demonstrating the feasibility of the NSDF-SEAL data democratization initiative.
