Dell Empowers Collaboration & Remote Work in APAC with New Commercial Lineup

Remote work and hybrid work are fast becoming commonplace after the pandemic. More and more of us are finding ourselves working in places other than our offices and it has slowly but surely changed what we need and look for in our devices. Dell is well ahead of the curve in delivering purpose-built devices for any price point. However, the shift in paradigm has also led to Dell rethinking and reconceptualising its approach to designing its solutions.

“It’s not about the work, it’s about how we get it done,” were the words of Paul Carter, Dell Technologies’ Vice President of Client Solutions Group Sales for Asia Pacific, Japan (APJ) at the APJ launch of their new commercial line up of devices. He outlined the fundamental shift in Dell’s approach to creating its commercial solutions. The change has influenced the features and form factors offered by the refreshed Latitude, Optiplex and Precision lineups. This change is also ever present in the accessories and monitors that expand its commercial offerings. Dell’s approach caters to four personas shaped by their work and the nature of their functions: the builder, the connector, the producer and the specialist.

Devices for the Builders & Connectors in Organisations

Builders are people focused on building the business primarily dealing with people and company strategy while connectors bring people together and optimize outcomes by balancing collaboration and team interests. These workers need to be nimble and productive requiring devices that not only serve as productivity tools but also tools for presentations but more importantly, these tools need to be as portable and light as they need to be on their feet.

Dell has created multiple devices across their Precision and Latitude lineups with multimode productivity. Laptops like Dell’s new Ultra-Premium Latitude 9440 are built with the power, portability and design that is not only meant to empower productivity but bring the prestige that comes with being a C-Suite and manager. However, for those needing something even more portable, Dell has the Latitude 7340 and Latitude 7440 ultralight that puts portability front and center.

In addition, the Dell Latitude lineup is also imbued with 2-in-1 laptops for the Latitude 7340 and Latitude 7440 which allow them to be tools for on-the-go presentation. The Latitude 9440 2-in-1 brings this feature set with the premium build and design fit for higher management.

Catering to the Producer and Specialist – A group that Needs More Power for Productivity

Dell has also identified a group called Producers who work on delivering outcomes and focuses on accomplishing tasks and productivity. This group works closely with the specialists in any organisation. Specialists perform detail oriented work and work on solving problems, delivering products, analyzing data and even creating content. These groups of people require machines that are packed to the brim with power to churn large amounts of data or render heavy graphical loads.

The Precision lineup brings the required power with top of the line graphics powered by NVIDIA’s RTX Ada generation graphics. These setups range from mobile, portable laptops like the Precision Mobile Workstation 5480 that packs the powerful internals needed for detail oriented work into a slim, portable body to the Precision 7960 Tower that brings the power in a more convention desktop as well as the Precision 7960 Rack which brings the specifications to servers allowing remote access with data security.

Bringing Diversity & Sustainability to the Forefront

Dell’s Optiplex line up, on the other hand, falls squarely into the spaces between these personas bringing productivity focused machines into compact, space saving form factors. They allow users to stay productive without sacrificing desk space. The Optiplex line up also packs enough power for these workers to get a more diverse range of work done. Things from repetitive admin work to processing spreadsheets.

That said, Dell’s solutions across the board are guided by the company’s many sustainability goals and moonshot goals. It comes as no surprise that all of these devices come with a substantial amount of optimisations and materials which reduce the environmental impact of the company and devices. Dell has incorporated things like Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastics, sustainably sourced metals and components made of recycled materials.

Dell has also brought some of their ideas and learnings from their many concept devices like Concept Luna to their new devices. They haven’t even more sustainability plans in the works which will make their debuts with future products.

Dell Showcases its Commitment to Sustainability with New Product Materials & Packaging

Dell’s commitment to the environment is not something it has pulled out of thin air. The company was one of the first to commit to lowering its carbon footprint and becoming carbon neutral. In fact, they’ve been one of the most consistent for more than a decade. This year, the company is upping the ante when it comes to sustainability with new materials and new packaging that will take them to the next level.

The New Dell Latitude 5000 Showcases Years of Research & Development for Sustainability

Earlier this year, Dell announced Concept Luna where they were experimenting with recycled materials in creating new laptops. That was the latest in a growing number of efforts to be more environmentally responsible and explore renewable materials for their products. Their latest product, the new Dell Latitude 5000 series, is the first product to showcase the many years of research and development. It boasts one of the highest proportions of renewable materials thus far.

Dell Sustainability 2022 01

The new Dell Latitude 5000 series showcases a laptop lid made of 71% recycled and renewable materials. The lid itself is made of a three major components: a tree-based bioplastic upcycled from the paper making industry; reclaimed carbon fibre and post consumer recycled plastics. According to Dell, it chose to start with the laptop lid as it is the second heaviest part of the laptop which allows the company to make a larger impact on sustainability.

The Latitude 5000 series is also helping Dell reduce its reliance of petroleum based materials. The base of the laptop is made of 20% reclaimed carbon fibre. Dell also uses a new bio-based rubber for its rubber feet. The fan housing used in the laptop series boasts an impressive 23% reclaimed ocean bound plastics in its build.

Comitting to 100% Recyclable Packaging

In addition to increasing the amount of sustainable and recycled materials in its laptops, Dell is also taking a close look at its packaging. The company is comitting to creating packaing which is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable.

To achieve this, its substituting a lot of the materials we’re used to seeing in laptop packaging with paper alternatives. Plastic bags are being substituted with more sustainable materials. Dell is even opting to change to their box with a more sustainable corrgate shipping box with an inner tray made of sustainably sourced bamboo and sugarcane fibres. Tape is also being replaced with a paperbased alternative. This new packaging will be seen with the new Latitude series, Precision mobile workstations and XPS devices.

This is only the beginning, Dell chose the Latitude line up as it is their highest volume product. This will, according to the company, allow it to make a more impactful step in sustainability. However, it’s not forgetting its other lineups. The Precision 3000 mobile workstations, Precision workstations and OptiPlex Micro desktops will also feature some of the sustainable materials mentioned. Of course, Dell is also bringing these materials to its EcoLoop Pro backpacks, sleeves and briefcases.

[CES 2021] Dell Refreshes Its All-in-One Dell Optiplex Line Up

Dell first announced the Optiplex in 1993. However, back in 2019, the company changed things up by introducing a brand new form factor. The new form factor brought a new modular design that is no larger than the stand of a Dell monitor; it’s literally the size of a slim brick; no thicker than a laptop. In fact, it allowed users to update and upgrade the Optiplex as they needed to.

This year, Dell is bringing two more models to the Dell Optiplex Ultra line up: the Dell Optiplex 3090 Ultra and Dell Optiplex 7090 Ultra. Both come with up to 64GB of RAM with support for up to 2TB of space with options for self-encrypting drives. They run on the latest Intel Core processors with the 3090 supporting the 11th generation Core i3 and i5 processors as well as the Intel Celeron processor; while the 7090 supports the 11th Generation Intel Core i7, in addition to the Core i3 and i5.

Of course, being built for work, the new Dell Optiplex All-in-Ones come with support for the Dell Technologies Unified Workspace. This allows companies to deploy pre-configured systems customised with their apps and settings directly from Dell to their users. It also allows IT to move from a high touch environment to a more remote one with Dell ProSupport Suite. This also allows IT to deploy fixes proactively before hardware breaks down or to patch critical software vulnerabilities.

The modular Optiplex Ultra has a unique design that is tailored for minimalist setups. It is designed for minimal cables and has support for connectivity over USB, Thunderbolt 4.0 and DisplayPort 1.4. A point to note is that not all Optiplex All-in-Ones come with a monitor. You may need to purchase the monitor separately and they are compatible with most monitors out there. However, they are designed for Dell Optiplex stands which allow you to hide the modular brick in the stand. These stands are available and will work with VESA compatible displays.
