“Lighting controls have transitioned beyond energy-saving devices to connected and intelligent devices that store and use data to enhance living conditions,” said Dennis Marcell Victor, Energy & Environment Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “As light points generate valuable amounts of data, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) can provide lighting controls service providers analytical insights about users to create additional revenue.”

Victor added: “The construction industry’s post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery will encourage stakeholders to prioritize enhancing commercial and residential buildings for additional comfort. This will lead them to install platform solutions that can control, analyze, and integrate all systems in a building, including lighting.”

Growing consumer awareness toward energy efficiency and sustainable solutions presents the following growth opportunities for lighting controls service providers:

  • The utility sector should implement energy management strategies in the industrial segment, as demand response programs are still underutilized in the lighting industry, followed by other commercial buildings.
  • Lighting controls manufacturers should meet codes compliance and obtain certifications to distinguish their products in the market.
  • Companies can offer comprehensive facility support and analytical solutions with data collected from light points as a value-added service of lighting systems.

Global Lighting Controls Growth Opportunities is the latest addition to Frost & Sullivan’s Energy & Environment research and analysis available through the Frost & Sullivan Leadership Council, which helps organizations identify a continuous flow of growth opportunities to succeed in an unpredictable future.

Changhong’s High-end Household Appliance Brand CHiQ Enters Singapore Market

SINGAPORE, Nov. 26, 2021 — CHiQ, a high-end smart home appliances brand owned by Chinese consumer electronics producer Changhong, made its formal entry into Singapore in November 2021, with the launch of flagship stores on two of the country’s mainstream e-commerce platforms, Shopee and Lazada, enabling the brand to better reach and serve Singaporean consumers.

Ethan Pu, head of CHiQ for Southeast Asia, explained that CHiQ is making its next-generation Android smart TV that features full screen, 4K ultra-high definition and frameless design, M8T, available on the two e-commerce platforms. With strong competences in television R&D and related technologies, CHiQ has continuously improved the quality of its products while enhancing user experience over the past few years by creating smart household appliances that meet the expectations of consumers through collaborations with numerous name-brand multinational companies, including Google, Netflix and Dolby.

CHiQ Android M8T Launched in Singapore

During this year’s Double 11 shopping season, CHiQ recorded impressive growth in TV sales that far exceeded expectations as a result of the launch of a pre-sale via the Shopee flagship store. Notably, Changhong provides next-day-delivery service in Singapore thanks to its in-country warehousing and logistics facilities. In mid-October, CHiQ signed a strategic cooperation agreement covering logistics across the Southeast Asian region with express delivery service provider Best Express. The tie-up facilitates the brand’s achievement of zero-distance communications and high-speed logistics across the region supported by the integration of product loading and delivery functions.

CHiQ is expanding rapidly in European and Southeast Asian countries as well as in Australia by establishing a presence across local mainstream sales channels and e-commerce platforms. Given the continued rise in sales in these markets where its products have gained increasing popularity among local consumers, the brand is planning to launch e-commerce businesses in Malaysia and Vietnam, among other new markets.

Going forward, CHiQ plans to continue improving the quality of its products and services through the synergy of multiple product lines while deepening its commitment to Southeast Asian markets by expanding sales channels, with the aim of delivering a smarter home experience to consumers across the region.

Founded in 2014, CHiQ has been on a mission to create a better future for all by building a well-known international household appliance brand led by smart home products. The brand’s parent Changhong has become a multinational firm that has established 5 manufacturing facilities and 13 subsidiaries globally, with its products available in more than 150 countries and regions worldwide.

Exyte Delivers Record Sales in Challenging Macroeconomic Environment

STUTTGART, Germany, May 12, 2021 — Exyte, a global leader in the design, engineering, and delivery of high-tech facilities, delivered all-time high sales of €4.1 billion with adjusted EBIT of €213 million in the fiscal year 2020 (FY).

Exyte’s €4.1 billion sales in 2020 exceeded 2019’s record-setting mark of €3.9 billion by 5%. Europe (EMEA) was the strongest region with sales climbing 75% year-over-year to €2.4 billion, much of which is attributable to semiconductor projects underway in Ireland and Austria and a data center project in Denmark. EMEA also won €2.2 billion worth of new orders. Although sales in Asia-Pacific (APAC) decreased slightly to €1.1 billion with the pandemic holding up some projects, its order intake was at the same amount, €1.1 billion. The situation was similar in the USA (AMER), with sales decreasing to €483 million, but new orders increasing to €656 million. Overall, order intake in 2020 decreased to €4.1 billion, down from the Group’s record high of €4.8 billion last year. Compared to 2019, free cash flow increased by €148.3 million to €215.5 million, an increase of over 220%.

Exyte continued to operate very profitably with adjusted EBIT amounting to €213 million in FY 2020, just short of 2019’s €223 million. The adjusted EBIT margin came to 5.2%, a strong performance given the global circumstances. Three factors contributed prominently to this success – the rigorous safety and compliance policies that kept the company operating, the strategic focus on growth industries, and the success of the oneCOMPANY initiatives to streamline and standardize internal processes.

Dr. Wolfgang Büchele, CEO of Exyte, says, "The actions we took enabled us to operate very efficiently despite the challenging global environment. Our efforts to optimize and digitalize our organization to grow our margins are starting to bear fruit. It was a remarkably successful year for us, and we are delighted to see our strategy working. Order intake, sales, and adjusted EBIT somewhat reflect that there is a crisis underway, but our financial performance compared well with last year’s outstanding one. All three indicators met or even exceeded our projections."

Semiconductors and batteries business booms
Exyte’s largest strategic business segment, Advanced Technology Facilities (ATF), increased sales to €3.5 billion, up 12.4% from 2019’s €3.1 billion. ATF also won new orders in the amount of €3.4 billion from semiconductor and battery companies in Ireland, Germany, USA, Austria, and Israel.

The Biopharma & Life Sciences (BLS) and Data Centers (DTC) business segments delivered as expected. BLS’s sales dipped to €221 million after it completed a project in the USA. However, it  won new projects in Singapore, Taiwan, Germany, and the USA worth up to €440 million.

Promising prospects for 2021
Although the pandemic will continue for some time to come, Exyte’s outlook remains optimistic. "In 2020, we laid a strong foundation for future profitable business growth. Our order intake in Q1 2021 is already more than 50% above the respective figure of 2020 and we expect our order intake in full year 2021 to increase by 30% along with an increase in sales and EBIT," states Peter Schönhofer, CFO of Exyte.
