Last month Entain announced a new strategy to deliver significant growth, driven by expansion in the U.S., growth across its core business, entry into new markets, and to new audiences. Entain, which has a very strong track record of 19 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in its online business, also committed to lead responsible gaming with a new Sustainability Charter. Under this charter, the business pledged to focus only on regulated markets and use its proprietary technology to raise levels of player protection.

As part of these plans to deliver growth and sustainability, Entain today confirmed strong momentum and market share gains in the U.S. for BetMGM, its joint venture with MGM Resorts. Between October and January BetMGM is adding five new states, doubling its population reach in three months to around 75 million across 12 states. Entain also disclosed that BetMGM’s most recent state launch in Tennessee has been its most successful go-live yet with revenues already ahead of those in more established states. Powered by Entain technology, BetMGM expects to be in over 20 states by the end of 2021.

"We are firmly on track to take further leadership in the U.S. as well as in many other newly regulated markets that are now opening around the world." said Segev. "At the heart of our growth strategy is a determination to bring the best player experiences and protections to our industry as technology moves sport and interactive entertainment into a new era. In the U.S., we invested in building the right building blocks for the BetMGM platform to grow and become a long-term leader in the U.S., with superior technology and capabilities, and this is now paying off."

Entain also fleshed out its new Sustainability Charter, allocating money to new projects which will be delivered through its international Foundation around the world. It also gave further detail on its new Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC) initiative, seeking to revolutionise player experiences and protection through world-leading research, data science and technology. Other new measures include:

Focus on new regulated markets: In line with its stated intention to focus on fully regulated markets, Entain today announced it has become the first global sports betting and gaming operator to gain a licence in Latin America and expects to go live in Colombia over the next month. Colombia is one of the first countries to issue licences in Latin America with others, such as Brazil preparing to follow. Elsewhere in the Americas, Canada is also moving ahead with regulation and Entain confirmed it will be applying for licencing in Canada.

  • Investing in people and communities: Entain has pledged to invest £100 million over five years in the Entain Foundation to fund responsible gaming initiatives and to support people and communities around the world where it operates. Today, it announced a series of international commitments:

UK: Entain and the three Trident Leagues (The Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues) are to launch the Trident Community Foundation to help fund community-based projects. Grants will be open for the 228 football clubs that participate in the leagues.
"Pitching In", Entain’s recently launched grassroots sport investment programme, is the founding partner of the Trident Community Foundation (TCF) and has donated £150,000 to establish the TCF fund, for distribution over the rest of the 2020/21 season.

US: The Entain Foundation is rolling out an extensive state-by-state program with EPIC, a charitable organisation which works with former athletes and people who have overcome gambling addiction to help educate people on how to play safely.

The U.S. project announced today with EPIC extends the program to a total of 15 Pro Sports teams and over 20 colleges across the country, including Harvard University, University of Oregon, and the Mid-American Conference. Entain and EPIC plan to work together to add additional professional sports leagues and colleges across the US during 2021.

Germany: The Entain Foundation will continue existing sports integrity projects in Germany and receive early funds to initiate further activities around responsible gaming.

Australia:  The Foundation has announced initial new projects to advance responsible gaming with Relationships Australia, a community-based not for profit organisation which provides a range of counselling and support services to problem gamblers and their families. The new funding will be used to support a social media campaign to reach vulnerable audiences and to raise awareness of the signs of gambling addiction.

  • Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC): Under this recently announced programme, Entain will combine its technology with research and insight from leading psychologists and Harvard to develop innovative experiences and safeguards for a new era in interactive sport and entertainment. To this end, Entain today announced that:

    Dr. Michael Auer,
a leading academic and member of the scientific community at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, specialising in behavioural psychology and addiction, will join Entain alongside Professor Mark Griffiths, Distinguished Professor of Behavioral Addiction and Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. They will evaluate and advise on improvements to Entain’s guidelines and processes in relation to responsible gaming.

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia, Nov. 25, 2020 — Dattel Asia Group, a leading consumer data & analytics company in ASEAN, has recently launched UPLIFT Malaysia – an initiative to empower 10,000 businesses with actionable insights on the latest consumer behaviour through a RM 50 million data fund. This initiative aims to help individuals who have lost job or businesses that are being impacted by the recent economic downturn to recuperate sustainably.

We aspire to uplift 10,000 companies and nurture business communities that are more #celikdata in the country. For you to have a competitive edge in business, you need a reliable source of data that continuously gives you new perspectives of the market. Ashran Dato’ Ghazi Chief Executive Officer, Dattel Asia

One of the inspirations for UPLIFT was when the CEO of Dattel Asia, Ashran Dato’ Ghazi, met many entrepreneurs struggling with the abrupt shift in consumers’ behaviour due to COVID-19 outbreak. The behavioural shifts caused many consumer-facing businesses uncertain about how, or even if, they should respond to the changes. With so many changes happening at an unprecedented rate, companies do not have the necessary insights that are up-to-date and comprehensive for them to pivot their business or marketing strategy.

To address this, Dattel Asia has partnered with several powerhouses in the industry to launch UPLIFT Malaysia. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that businesses in Malaysia have the necessary access to accurate data which are usually made available only to large companies.

Among the industry players that have joined forces with Dattel Asia for UPLIFT Malaysia are BAC Education Group, Transcosmos Malaysia and ZBRA Business Research & Analytics. Also, UPLIFT has gained the support of Institut Keusahawanan Negara (INSKEN), Owners Circle and Kementerian Pembangunan Usahawan dan Koperasi (MEDAC). Dattel Asia hopes more industry players will come forward and contribute to the initiative.

Applications for UPLIFT data fund are open to any individuals or companies, especially those interested in consumer-facing business such as retail, fashion, F&B, fitness, beauty, health or snacks. Upon review, successful applicants will receive access to consumer data & training package worth RM 5,000 and weekly updates on consumers’ COVID-19 sentiment and behaviours.

The access to the consumer data & training package is only limited to the first 10,000 eligible applicants. Those who are interested can visit the UPLIFT Malaysia webpage at upliftmy.dattel.asia for more details and apply for the data fund now.

Scienjoy Demonstrates Corporate Social Responsibility With COVID-19 Public Health Event

BEIJING, Oct. 23, 2020 — Scienjoy (Nasdaq: SJ), a leading provider of show livestreaming social platforms in China, last week demonstrated its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by supporting the COVID-19 pandemic effort via streaming the "Fighting the epidemic together for a better life," COVID-19 public health event.

Streaming the event was the most recent CSR initiative as part of the Company’s larger campaign to share public health information on its platforms. Held in Beijing, the COVID-19 public health event gathered experts from local universities and invited five speakers to share their stories of outstanding contributions to the COVID-19 cause. This event is one small part of Scienjoy’s effort to contribute to the fight against the pandemic, which has also included direct donations, partnerships to share public health information, and exploring new forms of online entertainment and community for its more than 200 million users.

Its strong sense of Corporate Social Responsibility made Scienjoy an early supporter of COVID-19 affected areas. This support began almost nine months ago. On January 31, the company donated RMB 1 million to purchase personal protective gear and other urgently needed medical supplies for frontline medical staff in Wuhan. At the same time, Scienjoy helped establish and donated RMB100,000 to the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications fund to support students from Hubei province, who were impacted by the virus. The fund was established to support students from Hubei who were struggling with tuition payments. The fund raised over 700,000 RMB, with Scienjoy employees also individually donating RMB101,010.

Beyond donations, Scienjoy added banners, livestreams, and resources to share authoritative public health information with its more than 200 million users. Scienjoy leveraged its livestreaming platforms, including Showself, Lehai TV and Haixiu TV, plus other strategic cooperation livestreaming platforms, to support the public health efforts against COVID-19. With its campaign "Together, we will fight the pandemic," it promoted a special section of COVID-19 information to users through banners on homepages. In these sections, the platforms published official announcements, posted public health campaigns calling on people to work together to combat COVID-19, and shared protective measures users could take to reduce the spread of the pandemic. Platforms also set up message boards for areas heavily impacted by the pandemic.

In addition to spreading the public health message, Scienjoy also used its own and other collaborative platforms to provide entertainment and social options in an era of social distancing to support users in high-risk areas and frontline workers who had to vigilantly practice social distancing. Since the start of the pandemic, people have increasingly turned to Scienjoy to connect over livestream from home. To support this, Scienjoy actively initiated a new "Home Entertainment" category, teaming up with high-quality partners to add new categories of entertainment and livestreaming events. Scienjoy livestreamed fitness courses, discos, online theater experiences and other innovative events. The company continued supporting its active online communities, enabling hosts and fans to maintain a connection virtually as they all practiced social distancing.

"Our COVID-19 efforts have further enriched our platforms’ content, helped support our users get through this difficult time, and supported our public partners to find new online models to combat the crisis. Our new features and adaptations to the COVID-19 era also helped us achieve solid financial results in the second quarter of 2020. We grew our net income by 282.2% year over year in Q2, all while keeping an eye on our mission in CSR," said Mr. Denny Tang, CFO of Scienjoy.

Since its founding, CSR has always been a focus for Scienjoy. It continues to provide high-value services to users with cutting-edge technologies while making every effort to promote public welfare. During this uniquely difficult time, Scienjoy learned how livestream can adapt and support users in even more areas of life. Backed by its advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality, the company continues to develop diverse content and expand the reach of livestreaming. Scienjoy is looking to the future to see how we can learn from the pandemic and transform crisis into opportunity.

The sixth 99 Giving Day opened to a strong start at 9:00 a.m. on Sep. 9. The amount of donations in the first two minutes exceeded RMB$100 million, and was close to RMB$600 million after 30 minutes, making it a trending topic online.

In the past six years, the total amount of users’ donations for 99 Giving Day increased from RMB$128 million to 2.32 billion yuan by more than 17 times. In the same period, Tencent charity platform attracted more than 156 million participants. Given its rapid scale, growth rate and influence, 99 Giving Day has transformed into a festival of national goodwill and philanthropy for society.

For 99 Giving Day this year, Tencent Charity Foundation announced it would invest RMB$399.9 million in matching donations and announced a special support fund of RMB$200 million, coming from Tencent’s RMB$1.5 billion Anti-COVID-19 Fund established this Feb.

Chen Yidan, Co-founder of Tencent and Founder of Tencent Charity Foundation said: "in the post pandemic era, 99 Giving Day establishes a new starting point, to support charities facing new opportunities and challenges. Jointly with our partners, Tencent Charity will put more effort to continuously cultivate transparency, digitization and efficiency in the charity ecosystem."

Business Participated With Matching Donation and Consumption Coupons

When started six years ago, Tencent’s matching donation became a major feature of the 99 Giving Day. To meet the needs of many enterprises who wanted to participate in this event, Tencent created a participation mode for enterprises to provide matching donations to charity programs expanding the platform to businesses and positive impact to charity organizations.

This year, considering those businesses affected by the pandemic, 99 Giving Day created special tools such as charity consumption coupons, which can be issued by businesses to donors who can deduct cash when consuming, so as to embody the spirit of "Together We Can" for both businesses and consumers in the fight with pandemic.

Digital and Blockchain Supports Efficient and Transparent

Today rapid technology development is supporting the growth of charity.

Transparency is the basic indicator of health status and the cornerstone of the charity ecosystem. This year, 99 Giving Day is using blockchain technology to improve transparency. All charity projects will be based on blockchain to improve disclosure and ensure contributions which will be traceable, rechecked, and transparent throughout the whole process.

Digitalization is the key to efficiency of Internet charity ecosystem. This year, the technical team of Tencent Charity platform launched the "Charity SaaS Plan", to support charity organizations improve efficiency by offering open source cloud computing and big data. Now, there are 50 charity organizations participating in the program, and 100 is expected by end of this year.

Film Stars and Media Makes The Day Interesting and Diverse

The vitality of charity needs the passion of the younger generation, it should be more creative and personalized.

On 99 Giving Day, listening to songs, walking on the road and reading books, can all provide a fun way to make donations and support charities. As an example, Tencent developed the game of "little safflower", where one can gather more safflowers by donating money and interacting with friends. Based on the final number of safflowers, contributors can get different times of matching donations.

Meanwhile, many superstars, KOLs and uploaders are involved in live streaming, WeChat official accounts and idol charity programs. More than 120 superstars’ fan groups and hundreds of official accounts joined the "We Media Partnership Program" to claim and promote charity projects.  More than one hundred KOLs formed "We Media Charity Team" to promote 99 Giving Day in social media channels.

Many cross-border stars, KOLs and uploaders participated. During the 99 Giving Day, more than 120 superstar fan groups customized dragon solitaire activities. Thousands of official accounts launched the "We Media Partnership Program", claiming official account projects in one to one way, and nearly one hundred KOLs formed "We Media Public Service Team" to promote 99 Giving Day in social channels.

The 1st 99 Giving Day in Hong Kong

Adhering to the mission of ‘Tech for Good’, Tencent Foundation introduced the initial 99 Giving Day in Hong Kong for the very first time. Without leaving home, Hong Kongers can donate and support charity using their mobile devices.

Obris and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, two reputable charity organizations that have gained long-term support from people in Hong Kong and elsewhere, participated in the HK 99 Giving Day and set up charity programmes for donations on WeChat Pay HK charity platform which will be matched by Tencent Foundation.

This program received an enthusiastic response from Hong Kong residents, with donations nearly 100 times higher than the usual donation traffic on WeChat Pay HK charity platform.

"The people of Hong Kong are enthusiastic about charity. We are very happy to have 99 Giving Day in Hong Kong this year to help local charity organizations raise money through mobile Internet platforms," Chen said. "There is no boundary between love and public welfare. This is also the first time in HK for Tencent Foundation. We look forward to cooperating with more charity organizations to stimulate the goodness of science and technology and make the world a better place. "

Living up to expectations, the 99 Giving Day ended with a big success in 2020. However, Chen Yidan said: "the amount of money raised is no longer an indicator of success to 99 Giving Day, but the positive social impact conveyed, the charity perception how many people recognized, and the power to social goodness in a longer period of time, these are the goals we have been pursuing and valuing."

How Tencent Music Entertainment Supports Indie Musicians on Streaming Platform During the Pandemic

SHENZHEN, China, July 24, 2020Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME) (NYSE: TME), the leading online music entertainment platform in China, today celebrates three years of achievements in artist support by its indie musician program, Tencent Musician.

Since it launched three years ago, Tencent Musician has provided powerful backing for musicians to continue their creation. The program has generated 590 million yuan in revenue for original music content creators since its inception.

Both before and since the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, Tencent Musician has run the “One Hundred Million Yuan Incentive Project”, which was later followed by the “One Hundred Million Yuan Incentive Project 2.0”, a more sustainable and upgraded project. The One Hundred Million Yuan Incentive Project has opened up a new model for musicians to generate, or increase, their incomes via a variety of incentive methods. According to data from the One Hundred Million Yuan Incentive Project 1.0, more than 40 percent of the musicians who enjoyed exclusive incentives were able to double their incomes, while over 80 percent saw their incomes rise by more than 50 percent.

In the first half of 2020, to support musicians and to provide music entertainment for the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which had caused live music performances to be cancelled, Tencent Musician organized 50 live-streamed concerts with 109 groups of musicians that reached an audience of nearly 8 million people.

Leveraging Tencent Musician and the TME ecosystem, TME provides support for indie musicians in three ways:

  • Taking advantage of TME’s 800 million monthly active users, TME helps generate traffic for musicians, increasing their exposure and building audience awareness. As of July 24, 2020, total playbacks exceeded 400 billion across TME platforms, while the amount of original music reached 850,000 songs.
  • Through income support projects and incentive plans, TME continues to boost the income levels of musicians, as mentioned above.
  • TME holds industry seminars for musicians to discuss different industry phenomena and topics. During the pandemic, Tencent Musician launched a campaign to gather a collection of original charity songs, which received responses from thousands of musicians with more than 2,000 songs. The music collection provided important moral support in the fight against the pandemic.

In addition, TME attaches great importance to opening up performing opportunities for musicians. For the offline celebration events of the fourth anniversary of TME, the company tailored an interactive session for Tencent musicians to perform for the public.

Within just four years since inception, TME was able to achieve a steady sustainable growth and to successfully list in the U.S. as a leading enterprise in the China music industry and a globally recognized presenter of Chinese music. Through its diversified music social entertainment products, TME creates a listening, watching, singing, performing and socializing all-in-one music entertainment experience and allows users to participate in music creation, appreciation, sharing and interaction.

TME is building a comprehensive social community to connect and benefit users, record companies, and talented musicians. In addition to Tencent Musician, all of the other programs and platforms under TME cooperate with each other and third-party music labels to support different types of musicians, illustrating the openness and inclusiveness for original music.

Nine Leading Businesses Launch New Initiative to Accelerate Progress to a Net Zero Future

Initiative is committed to leading by example, charting the course for other businesses to follow

REDMOND, Washington, July 21, 2020 — The heads of nine companies today announced the establishment of a new initiative to accelerate the transition to a net zero global economy. The initiative, known as Transform to Net Zero, intends to develop and deliver research, guidance, and implementable roadmaps to enable all businesses to achieve net zero emissions.

The Initiative will be led by founding members including A.P. Moller – Maersk, Danone, Mercedes-Benz AG, Microsoft Corp., Natura &Co, NIKE, Inc., Starbucks, Unilever, and Wipro, as well as Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). The Initiative is supported by BSR, which is serving as the Secretariat for the Initiative.

Transform to Net Zero will focus on enabling the business transformation needed to achieve net zero emissions no later than 2050, in addition to driving broader change with a focus on policy, innovation, and finance. The outputs of the initiative will be widely available to all, though additional companies may join. The Initiative intends to complete the outputs of this work by 2025.

The work will be led by the following principles:

  1. Focused on transformation: Delivering on our individual commitments and translating into action, which will include corporate strategy, governance and accountability, finance and operations, risk management, procurement, innovation and R&D, marketing, and public affairs.
  2. Led by science and best practice data and methods: Committed to standardized approaches to achieve what the best available science requires for a 1.5 degree C world; committed to improving the quality and availability of research, data, and tools for all; committed to the highest return for the climate on investment.
  3. Leveraging existing efforts: Committed to open collaboration with existing net zero initiatives (sign-on, advocacy, sectorial, methodology efforts) to leverage existing work and advance business transformation to net zero.
  4. Strong governance and oversight: At the highest levels of the company, governance and oversight structures will work to achieve net zero, including through developing innovative products, services, and business models.
  5. Robust reduction and removal across the extended enterprise: Net zero requires emissions reductions across the entire value chain, including impact of products and services and supply chain. Net zero requires us to achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions aligned with the latest science and increase our capacity for GHG removals in the near term to be the path to get companies–and the world–to net zero no later than 2050 to ensure a stable climate, and will mean a mix of climate-positive actions should be pursued.
  6. Investment in innovation: Substantial commitment and willingness to invest in and accelerate innovation to achieve net zero transformation, including partnering with others.
  7. Policy engagement: Advancing public policy that enables and accelerates progress towards net zero, and engagement with bodies such as trade associations to achieve this objective.
  8. Transparency and accountability: Public reporting and disclosure on progress towards net zero transformation to key stakeholders, including investors, customers, consumers, and where required–regulators; sharing information with all stakeholders on good practice to net zero transformation.
  9. Just and sustainable transition: We know that marginalised groups and low-income communities bear the greatest impacts of climate change. Therefore, we will help enable conditions needed to achieve effective, just, and sustainable climate solutions for people of all gender, race, or skills.

Commentary:

A.P. Moller – Maersk
Soren Skou, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk, said: “A.P. Moller – Maersk is committed to a carbon-neutral future of transport and logistics. To contribute to the Paris agreement’s goal, we announced our ambition of having net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 back in 2018. Since then we have taken several concrete actions to decarbonise the industry. The overall target of keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees can only be reached through strong alliances across sectors and businesses. We are therefore happy to join Microsoft and other global companies in the Transform to Net Zero initiative.”

BSR
Aron Cramer, President and CEO of BSR, said: “Over the past decade, many businesses have committed to net zero targets. It is now time to accelerate the actions needed to achieve this essential goal. Our window for staying under 1.5 degrees of warming is closing, and fast.  We are now in a decisive decade, in which we must urgently decarbonize the economy, if we are to stave off the worst impacts of climate change. That’s why Transform to Net Zero is so important. More than just setting a high bar for inspiration, Transform to Net Zero will provide companies with an actionable roadmap enabling them to transform their businesses to thrive in and shape a net zero economy.”

Danone
Emmanuel Faber, Chairman and CEO of Danone, said: “Our One Planet. One Health frame of action puts the climate at the core of the food system transformation. Carbon neutrality is therefore not optional for Danone, it is a way to reinvent our growth model. This revolution cannot be achieved alone. That’s why I truly believe in the collective power of Transform to Net Zero. Let’s share best practices and build new systems to create the evidence-based solutions that will help us drive the change and keep global warming under 1.5°C.”

Environmental Defense Fund
Fred Krupp, President of Environmental Defense Fund, said: “The gap between where we are on climate change and where we need to be continues to widen. So does the gap between businesses that just talk about action and those that are actually getting the job done. This new initiative holds tremendous potential for closing these gaps. Especially if other businesses follow in the coalition’s footsteps, leading by example and using the most powerful tool that companies have for fighting climate change: their political influence.”

Mercedes-Benz AG
Ola Kallenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG, said: “If there is one lesson we can learn from dealing with the COVID-19-pandemic it is how much we can achieve if we act together. This is the only way we can also win the fight against climate change. We need to set common goals and implement measures to achieve them. That’s why we are joining ‘Transform to Net Zero.’ Our mission at Mercedes-Benz is CO2-neutral mobility. We are making good progress towards this end and we are determined to follow through.”

Microsoft
Brad Smith, President, Microsoft, said: “No one company can address the climate crisis alone. That’s why leading companies are developing and sharing best practices, research, and learnings to help everyone move forward. Whether a company is just getting started or is well on its path, Transform to Net Zero can help us all turn carbon commitments into real progress toward a net zero future.”

Natura &Co.
Roberto Marques, Executive Chairman of the Board and group CEO of Natura &Co., said: “At Natura &Co we truly believe in cooperation. We recently released our 2030 Commitment to Life in which we set for all our business the target to become net carbon zero in ten years. But to address the climate crises the world is facing, we need to help each other to do more and faster. The Net Zero initiative strives to do just that, bringing together companies committed to making the right changes at the right pace. We are committed to build a brighter future that will allow not only a greener world for future generations but the economic recovery under new premises that that society is demanding.”

NIKE, Inc.
Andy Campion, Chief Operating Officer, NIKE, Inc., said: “When it comes to protecting the playing field we share–our planet–there isn’t a moment to lose. That’s why we aren’t waiting for solutions to climate change, we’re coming together as global leaders to create them. If we act now, and work together, we can drive meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future. We’ll be relentless in our pursuit of ensuring a healthy planet for generations of athletes to come.”

Starbucks
Kevin Johnson, Starbucks President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “Starbucks aspires to be a resource-positive company by building on our long history in sustainability. Joining Transform to Net Zero aligned with our aspiration for a more sustainable future. Partnering with other like-minded companies, we will open-source best practices, advocate for positive government policies, and support a just transition. We believe in driving real change and encourage other organizations to join us in this critical effort for humanity.”

Unilever
Alan Jope, Unilever CEO, said: “The climate crisis is not only a threat to our environment, but also to lives and livelihoods, and it is critical that we all play a part in addressing it. The business world of the future cannot look like it does now; in addition to decarbonisation, a full system transformation is needed. That’s why we’re pleased to join other leading businesses as a founding member of Transform to Net Zero so we can work together and accelerate the strategic shift that is needed to achieve net zero emissions; in Unilever’s case, by 2039.”

Wipro
Thierry Delaporte, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Wipro Limited, said: “We are pleased to be a founding member of Transform to Net Zero. It is closely aligned with our values and our commitment to sustainability. Climate change is a defining challenge for our times and we firmly believe that businesses must step up and address the challenges head-on. A partnership forum like this can help catalyse and accelerate such a response and guide our future engagements across the value chain through a collaborative spirit of innovative, transformational solutions.”
