Reliance Industries Enters into Agreement to Invest Alongside Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure to Expand Data Center Joint Venture in India

‘Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio and Digital Realty Company’ to develop critical digital infrastructure to meet rapidly-growing global and local customer demand in Indian market

SINGAPORE, July 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), the largest global provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral data center, colocation and interconnection solutions, announced today a planned three-way joint venture (JV) with Brookfield Infrastructure and Reliance Industries Ltd. (“RIL”) to develop high-quality, highly-connected scalable data centers to meet the critical infrastructure needs of enterprises and digital services companies in India. The new JV will operate under the brand name Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio and Digital Realty Company. It succeeds and builds on the strong foundation laid by BAM Digital Realty, by including RIL, India’s largest private sector company, that has enabled and led India’s digital transformation through Jio, as a partner. Each partner will own one-third of the joint venture. Digital Connexion expects to initially execute on the development of data center campuses on existing strategic land parcels it owns in Chennai and Mumbai.

India represents a key market opportunity for Digital Realty to extend coverage, capacity, and connectivity options to cloud providers, hyperscalers and to both local and global enterprise customers. The Indian data center market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by the growing adoption of digital technologies, cloud computing, and the surge in data consumption fueling the demand for robust and scalable data center infrastructure. 

Data centers developed in India by the JV will leverage Digital Realty’s industry-leading energy-efficient data center platform, design and operating procedures, highly-repeatable Pervasive Data Center Architecture (PDx®) approach and relationships with global customers, Brookfield’s in-depth knowledge of the Indian infrastructure market, and Jio’s massive digital and connectivity ecosystem and very strong enterprise relationships with an existing client base of 80% of large named private enterprises in India.

Medlinker’s MedGPT Performs 96% As Well As Top Human Doctors

In a Livestreamed Real-World Assessment, MedGPT’s AI Doctors Rival Diagnostic Accuracy of China’s Leading Doctors

BEIJING, July 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Medlinker, a leading digital healthcare company in China, undertook a real world comparison of AI doctors accessible through its MedGPT service and their human equivalents in Chengdu on June 30 2023.

The evaluation, streamed live, involved 120 real patients and ten attending physicians from West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Seven eminent physicians from leading Chinese hospitals reviewed and scored the results based on criteria including consultation accuracy, diagnosis, treatment recommendations, suggested additional examinations, data analysis, explanation provided to patients, and the use of natural language in patient interactions. Human doctors scored an average of 7.5 out of 10, while MedGPT scored 7.2. MedGPT’s recommendations were found to be 96% as good as those from top-tier physicians.

Launched by Medlinker on May 25 2023, MedGPT is China’s first homegrown medical large-scale language model founded on the Transformer architecture. Unlike general-purpose large-scale models, MedGPT was designed to provide practical diagnostic value in real medical scenarios, offering intelligent diagnosis and treatment capabilities throughout the entire process, from disease prevention to diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. The consultation session between doctor and patient was planned to fully ensure the impartiality and fact-based reliability of the evaluation, following a carefully established process:

  • The patient explained their medical situation, including symptoms and previous treatments, to the medical assistant;
  • The medical assistant relayed the collected information simultaneously to the human doctor and to MedGPT through online text input;
  • The medical assistant acted as the intermediary as doctor and patient completed multiple rounds of communication until sufficient information had been collected for a diagnosis;
  • Based on the information, the human doctor and MedGPT ordered specific follow-up examinations or, if the information provided was sufficient, provided a diagnosis to the patient;
  • If further examinations were required, the patient underwent examinations at the hospital;
  • After obtaining the examination results, the patient returned for a final consultation where MedGPT and the human doctor independently provided a clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Throughout the entire process, the human doctor and MedGPT worked independently with no sharing of information, to ensure that both were operating under the same conditions.

During the evaluation session, the medical experts on the panel were impressed by MedGPT’s performance. They generally agreed that MedGPT ensured medical accuracy by collecting sufficient information through multiple rounds of questioning, resulting in a relatively low probability of misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis. What was particularly surprising was that, unlike doctors specialized in one field, MedGPT could diagnose diseases outside its field of expertise and suggest a treatment program based on other clinical observations and factors, something that can be quite challenging to achieve in routine consultations undertaken by specialists. The panel concluded that MedGPT’s knowledge coverage surpassed that of human doctors with limited experience.

LG Innotek achieved meaningful results previous year by performing substantial ESG management activities to enhance corporate value.

In the environmental field, LG Innotek joined ‘RE100’ and decided to use renewable electricity in all workplaces by 2030. At the same time, LG Innotek declared that it would achieve 100% Carbon Neutrality by 2040. LG Innotek also joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to systematically carry out carbon neutrality activities.

LG Innotek has already achieved the goal quickly by recording the renewable electricity conversion rate of 22% (RE22) and carbon neutrality rate of 20%.

CBAK Energy Expands Battery Production Capacities through Strategic Collaborations in Shangqiu City, Henan, China

  • Meeting Surging Demand for Lithium-ion Batteries with Cost-Effective Expansion

(NASDAQ: CBAT) (“CBAK Energy,” or the “Company”), a leading lithium-ion battery manufacturer and electric energy solution provider in China, today announced that its subsidiary, Dalian CBAK Power Battery Co., Ltd. (“Dalian CBAK”), has successfully reached agreements with the Shangqiu Urban-Rural Integration Demonstration Zone (the “Shangqiu City”) and partnering entities (the “Lessor”). These strategic collaborations, in the form of investment and lease agreements, will enable CBAK Energy to satisfy the surging demand for its 26700 cylindrical batteries at a relatively lower cost.

Under the terms of the cooperation, Dalian CBAK will pay an annual rental of several million RMB (the “lease payments”) to secure the rights to utilize the Lessor’s production line. This production line is projected to increase Dalian CBAK’s capacity by approximately RMB300 million worth of our 26700 cylindrical batteries. The Lessor will cover the costs of renovating the production line to meet Dalian CBAK’s manufacturing needs. Production is expected to commence as early as this year. Moreover, the investment agreement with Shangqiu City also presents an opportunity for Dalian CBAK to receive government subsidies once certain tax conditions are met, which will be used to partially or fully offset the lease payments, significantly enhancing the cost-effectiveness to this investment.

WiMi Developed an HMD-based Control System for Humanoid Robots Controlled by BCI

BEIJING, July 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc. (NASDAQ: WIMI) (“WiMi” or the “Company”), a leading global Hologram Augmented Reality (“AR”) Technology provider, today announced its development of a humanoid robot control system based on a head-mounted display (HMD) controlled by a brain-computer interface (BCI). This system via steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEP) and allows interaction with the environment and humans. The technology provides real-time feedback through the robot’s embedded camera, which integrates stimulus feedback into the HMD display.

WiMi’s researchers took control of the robot and tested its performance by using this new interaction in an experiment. Testers were asked to navigate the robot to a specific location to perform a task. This test was based on visual SLAM feedback, which provides navigation instructions through images of the environment captured by a camera.

Steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEP) are used as control signals, and the user’s EEG signals are captured by an EEG signal acquisition device, and real-time feedback from the robot is displayed using a head-mounted display. For navigation instructions, the researchers embedded an embedded camera in the robot and combined its real-time feedback with the SSVEP signals on the head-mounted display to form a form of interaction. The researchers used a visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) algorithm to implement the navigation instructions.

The control system of the head-mounted display BCI consists of several components: signal acquisition device, head-mounted display, humanoid robot, embedded camera, control algorithm, etc. The steps and results of WiMi’s BCI control system implementation are as follows:

EEG signal acquisition and processing:

The WiMi researchers first used a set of EEG signal interaction platforms for capturing the user’s EEG signals and processing those signals. The platform consists of a multi-channel amplifier, electrode caps, and data acquisition software to capture and store the user’s EEG signals in real-time. In processing the EEG signals, an efficient method is used, which is the extraction of SSVEP by frequency analysis of the signals. This method presents light flashes of a specific frequency to the user, and the user’s EEG signal will resonate at this frequency, thus enabling the extraction of control signals.

The researchers used an EEG signal acquisition device to capture the user’s EEG signals, a head-mounted display to show real-time feedback from the robot, and an embedded camera to provide navigation instructions. The control algorithm uses a visual SLAM algorithm to implement the navigation instructions, which models the environment and implements the navigation instructions from images of the environment captured by the robot’s camera.

Head-mounted display applications:

To provide feedback on the control signals, the researchers used a head-mounted display, which shows real-time images and states displayed through a built-in monitor. The head-mounted display utilizes high-resolution display technology to provide a more realistic experience of the virtual environment.

In addition, to better provide feedback on control signals, the researchers combined the display with the robot’s built-in camera. With the robot’s camera capturing images of the environment and displaying them on the head-mounted display, users can visualize the robot’s state and environmental information more intuitively. Specifically, the user is required to gaze at a specific frequency of light stimuli on the head-mounted display, which causes the user’s brain to emit a specific SSVEP signal. Once the signal is captured and processed, a control algorithm can determine the user’s intent based on the frequency and amplitude of the signal, such as moving the robot to turn left or right. The embedded camera captures the viewpoint of the robot in real-time, providing an image of the environment as well as feedback on the current position of the robot.

Navigation implementation:

Using the SLAM algorithm, an image of the robot’s environment is captured by the robot’s built-in camera and converted into a model of the robot’s environment. The algorithm is also able to estimate the robot’s position and provide navigation instructions to the user. The user can control the direction of the robot’s movement through SSVEP signals, while the head-mounted display shows the robot’s status and environmental information to provide more intuitive feedback to the user.

In addition, the researchers conducted an experimental evaluation of the control system to assess its performance in terms of control accuracy and interaction experience. The experimental results show that the control system can provide precise control signals as well as an immersive interactive experience, providing users with a novel way to control their robots.

Experimental evaluation:

To evaluate the performance of the system, the researchers conducted a series of experiments. The experiments included a user using the system for a robot navigation task and a control experiment using a traditional remote control for the task. The results of the experiments showed that users were able to perform navigation tasks more accurately and get better interaction when using the system.

The researchers conducted experiments to evaluate the control system, including performance in terms of control accuracy and interaction experience. In the experiment, participants were required to control the robot to walk to a specific location to complete a task in a simulated environment. The experimental results show that the control system can provide precise control signals with an average control accuracy of 98.1%. Meanwhile, users evaluated the system as a very good interaction experience, and considered it a very natural and intuitive way of interaction.

ePLDT Dominates PH Market with 12th VITRO Data Center

Demand and anticipation from hyperscalers, CDNs, banks, BPOs, carriers, and national government fuel ePLDT’s expansion

The announcement came during the W. Media Philippines Cloud and Datacenter Convention 2023, where ePLDT President & CEO Victor S. Genuino shared the company’s vision.

The decision to build the 12th data center, according to Genuino, is anchored on customers’ needs and aspirations to deliver digital innovation and promote inclusive economic growth. This also aligns with ePLDT’s vision to enhance Philippines’ regional competitiveness and attract investments post-pandemic.
