Meete launched a program to support small and medium shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh

  • The non-profit program aims to join hands with the Government to support 2,000 stores to overcome difficulties by granting free services to both ensure macroeconomic stability and employment for workers.
  • This program will provide a (zero fee) solution that allows stores to create short-term cash flows during the social distancing period because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, May 6, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Meete mobile application – Nguyen Group Joint Stock Company officially announced on April 22, 2020 that the company will start the program to support 2,000 small and medium-sized merchants in the food / drink / fashion / beauty / tourism industries in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh under two forms: (1) free service grants with a total value of VND 3 billion and (2) – zero fee gift voucher sales targeted at VND 7.2 billion for merchants on Meete website.

Meete launched a program to support small and medium shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh

Based on studies from National Economics University in Vietnam, so far on April 1st, 2020, 34,7% of businesses in Vietnam have been closed. Most of them, which are of low to medium scale, have not been able to access affordable bank’s interest rate policy due to lacking financial reports and other terms, as a result many merchants have to exit or shut down their business entirely. Hence, this program was initialized with the proactive attitude of the Vietnamese startup community to share the responsibilities of the government in balancing macroeconomic situations. This program is expected to help sustain merchant’s business in tough times by providing short term cash flow via gift vouchers sales and ensure jobs availability to decrease the Government support expenditure.

The program includes 2 methods, in detail:

The first one encourages merchants by granting free services to reduce operation costs at the re-opening period. These packages are the result of a corporation between service providing units such as wifi marketing, delivery, reservation, advertisement, product marketing, CRM, … , which is 10 – 30 million VND of value each one. Merchants can actively search for detailed information on Meete website. Currently, there are more than 30 partners supporting for the program, such as Địa Điểm Ăn Uống, Movad, VNwifi, Ahamove, … up to total of 1 billion VND out of expected goal of 3 billion VND

Merchant responds positively with these services due to its practicality and assurance of no extra fee. “Losing 30-50% total revenue compared to months before the quarantine period is the current situation of Otoké Chicken and Chewy Junior bakery. Our prior solution would be cutting off labor and reducing 40% salary, pushing delivery, setting up a discount program. The problem of every project is the limited budget, hence, this support service package will minimize the cost of delivery, advertisement, … especially, we aim to launch a cash gift voucher program, so that if we earn customer’s support, revenue in the short-term would increase without exceeding the budget and more employees would be cut off for the next 3 months.” said Mai Trường Giang – CEO TG FOOD.

Second method involves providing short-term operating cash flow solutions during the temporary quarantine period so that merchants could spend more on employment, rentals, …etc through customers purchasing in advance gift vouchers on Meete that could be used after the quarantine. These gift vouchers are to be purchased at a discount and can be used as e-gifts. Moreover, customers will receive cash back sponsored by Meete’s payment partner Zalo Pay up to 1 million VND depending on the purchase value. It is targeted that the total revenue will be up to 7.2 billion VND for merchants participating (zero fee on participating merchants). Currently, there are more than 100 merchants registered for gift voucher sales, and more than 30 organizations and communities join in and spread the program’s message.

More and more Facebook & Zalo groups created by CEOs and manager stores to transfer and pass their businesses and even to express their fear of bankruptcy. ZaloPay decides to support Meete since they understand this program’s practicality, and is willing to shoulder the pressure of low-to-medium merchants. We believe that by standing together, we can come through this tough quarantine time.” said Ms Trang – Zalo Pay Marketing representative.

Let’s say a low-to-medium merchant owns 25 staffs, 2,000 merchants supported will result in saving 50,000 jobs. This will make a huge impact on the government’s public expenditure, while a lot of macroeconomy support projects remain in the planning stage.

Within the purpose of supporting the society through the severe effects of COVID-19, consumers and merchants can donate to the Ministry of Health’s Fighting COVID-19 fund via Meete website. Meete expects to raise 60 million VND funding for the next 2 months.

Mr. Nguyễn Cảnh Dương – Nguyen Group CEO sharing “Individual and companies have been fighting with difficulties never happened with precedents. The business community in Vietnam is mostly of low-to-medium scale, which easily being affected by external threats, and Meete has stepped up with this zero-fee program to support and encourage merchants with managing cashflow solutions in short-term. By that, we hope to strengthen the relationship between Customer and Business, Business and Business, all together we will go through tough times and activate the spirit of Viet Nam startup, and associate with the government to settle the current situation.”

Meete Introduction:

Meete is a Marketing & Sales solution for local merchants, developed on both mobile application and website platforms, and has presence in HCM city and Hanoi. Meete supports merchants in broadening and maximizing touchpoints with the customer niches by means of advanced technical tools such as distributing discount vouchers to customers, managing reservations, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), food delivery and many more media services. Meete end-users will be the customers of merchants. By using Meete, they have access to exclusive deals from Meete merchants.

Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur teams up with Alibaba Cloud, leveraging innovation advantages to build a new industry ecosystem of 5G Internet of Vehicles

Greatly improving the performance with low latency for a more enhanced passenger experience

5G connectivity features high speed, low latency and high capacity. The network speed of 5G is significantly greater than that of 4G, up to 10 times faster; the latency of 5G has reduced to milliseconds, one tenth that of 4G; the capacity of 5G Internet connection is remarkably higher. The cooperation between Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur and Alibaba Cloud will better promote the further development of Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur in Internet of Vehicles projects and to realize the innovation of 5G application modes.

With the application of 5G edge computing for integrated solutions, the entire driving communication interaction process of Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur — namely the perception, transmission, handling, and response of road traffic condition during the driving process —  will be transferred to Alibaba Cloud’s Edge Node Service (ENS) for processing. Under ENS the communication response speed is reduced to milliseconds, benefiting the "car intelligent" (CI) system assisting drivers to rapidly identify road situation for timely and correct decisions. The realization of intelligent driving assistance and intelligent safety management is advantageous to Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur for meeting the real-time demand of perception analysis to feedback decisions in driving scenarios. Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur has also cooperated with Carnet Cloud to jointly develop equipment and high standard safety solutions for the Internet of Vehicles. Together we aim to ensure the safety of both passengers and drivers with the creation and launch of the first system of "snatching orders just by waving your hands" function in the industry, by developing the functions of facial masks intelligent identification, and so on.

The public transport industry will progress toward a more intelligent orientation, with technology serving as the primary driving force. Over the past few years, Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur has become a pioneering company in testing and applying new technologies, and its intelligent ecosystem has also benefited from its innovative and inclusive mindset. In terms of transportation, 5G technology and edge computing will promote an intelligent collaboration among more traffic participants. In cooperation with such companies such as Alibaba Cloud, Baidu and Carnet Cloud, Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur has been enhancing its technical leadership and innovation capacity, and adopting pioneering technologies to make future travel securer, more efficient and smarter. Shouqi Limousine & Chauffeur aims to promote the development and transformation of the entire industrial ecology, and lead the development of intelligent transportation.

SAS and IIASA call for crowd-driven artificial intelligence to help track deforestation

SINGAPORE, April 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — SAS is committed to building a global community of innovators that use technology to ignite positive change for people and the planet. This Earth Day, SAS and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) are implementing the next generation of crowd-driven artificial intelligence (AI) to help power AI algorithms designed to help us better understand our planet.

IIASA is an independent, international research institute that is known for its expertise in systems analysis and providing policy solutions and baseline information on pressing concerns for humanity. IIASA is placing a spotlight on the issue of deforestation to learn about the application of AI to elucidate the interconnectivity of Earth’s ecosystems. Today, our systems are changing rapidly, approaching levels that exceed existing human experiences, scientific understanding and traditional modeling capabilities, making it increasingly difficult for humans to intervene efficiently, effectively and timeously.

“The urgency required to address these transformations requires the application of best of breed technology solutions. That’s why we turned to SAS,” said Albert van Jaarsveld, CEO at IIASA. “By combining the power of our environmental science research platforms, SAS’ AI and computer vision technologies, and the sheer intellectual power of concerned citizens, we will develop AI models that will exponentially increase the value of human insights and strive to deliver near real-time assessment of global environmental change.”

Powerful, accurate, useful AI models do not happen by magic. The development of an AI model starts with human intelligence. For this project, SAS and IIASA are jointly launching an online crowdsource-driven app to gather the collective intelligence of the crowd. They are asking volunteers — an army of citizen scientists from middle school students in today’s virtual classrooms to artists, engineers and professional data scientists — to kick-start this effort by reviewing and judging images of the rainforest. These images show land untouched and land that may have been affected by human development.

“Since image analysis is an important first step for the accurate assessment and projection of deforestation, we are asking people to see what technology can’t see, by examining and reporting on images of smaller incremental forestry incursions worldwide,” said van Jaarsveld. “Crowdsourcing helps improve the AI algorithms, expediting what used to take years to analyze, thus helping to drive vital policy responses to protect our forests more quickly.”

When people flag regions that have seen signs of human impact, they help make AI models become smarter. For example, it is easy for a human to distinguish between a road (which signals human impact) and a river (which does not), but an AI model will not know the difference until it obtains sufficient training through learning from human observations. Additionally, results from the model ensure that the crowdsourcing app focuses the attention of human judges where their expertise is most needed. The model will allow for increased efficiency of a volunteer human force that best makes use of their attention and insights for a broad array of projects aimed at monitoring and measuring important global change matters.

With the power of the crowd and the computer combined, SAS and IIASA will have a robust, extensive platform for empowering citizen scientists to assist in cutting-edge research that helps us all better understand, predict and thrive in the world we share. While the first phase of this partnership focuses on deforestation, there are plans to extend this platform to other environmental concerns where crowdsourcing can help serve the greater good.

As a start, everyone can play a role in making AI smarter and improve its ability to help protect our forests. From students who are currently out of the classroom to AI professionals and everyone in between, this activity allows each of us to make a difference just by looking at a few images. Head to sas.com/rainforest to categorize images that show signs of deforestation and help models learn and improve at each iteration.

This crowdsourcing partnership with IIASA is fueled by SAS’ commitment to both data literacy and the Data for Good movement, which encourages using data in meaningful ways to drive positive global change.

GSIL and Samsung Engineering Sign Contract for Smart Safety Management System

SEOUL, South Korea, April 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — In mid-March, GSIL, a member company of the Born2Global Centre, signed a new contract with the Korean conglomerate Samsung Engineering for the supply of GSIL’s smart safety management system to the construction site of Samsung Engineering’s Motor Control Center (MCC) at Green Building in Pyeong-taek, South Korea. The purpose of the contract is to implement safety policies and systems for employees who work in stuffy, airtight environments.

GSIL CI
GSIL CI

GSIL independently developed a smart safety management system for the prevention of safety accidents and the elimination of safety “gray areas” at construction sites. The system features a function that can ascertain a worker’s current location as well as an SOS-enabled emergency rescue system.

The system that GSIL will be providing not only tracks worker locations but also uses a large-screen tablet PC, installed at the water tank at each work site, to allow workers to exchange information about their work environment and receive alarms in the event of an accident or other problem. The system collects data and transmits real-time updates on the work environment, providing information on oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, combustible gas, and hydrogen sulfide levels in the water tank. This quick information system makes it possible to prevent injury and fatal accidents related to low oxygen levels or the influx of harmful gases into an airtight setting.

GSIL’s system also provides a timeline of workers entering and exiting the water tank that can be viewed anytime and maintains records on individual workers, indicating whether each worker has completed safety training and has received his/her annual health check-up. The system also features a well-organized rescue system for emergency situations that only requires the worker to press the SOS button on his/her sensor, which then immediately sounds an SOS alarm on all connected mobile and web devices, ensuring that everyone can quickly be made aware of the situation.

On March 20, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) promulgated a revised version of the Enforcement Rule of the Construction Technology Promotion Act that expanded the list of safety management fees that are required for the introduction of smart safety equipment. The revised rule’s addition of establishment/operation fees for safety management systems that utilize wireless communications/equipment to the list of official safety management expenses creates the necessary foundations for the use of cutting-edge technology at construction sites, namely through the application of smart safety equipment (based on IoT, big data, etc.). When passing the revised legislation, the MOLIT stressed its commitment to prioritizing the safety of on-site personnel by establishing a “quick response” basis for the early detection and removal of construction site dangers. The revised enforcement rule is expected to diversify the environments that can be equipped with GSIL’s smart safety management system.

Lee Jung-woo, CEO of GSIL, said, “The Pyeongtaek-Godeok construction site is a very important location in terms of Samsung Electronics’ enlargement of its new semiconductor facilities, which are expected to increase in number over the next ten years. GSIL is anticipating that the construction site will expand through Green building 1 and 2, which are the targets of this most recent contract.” GSIL is preparing the safety management system which can be applied to the confined area, such as the Samsung Engineering Tangjeong site and Samsung Electronics’ wastewater treatment facility.

Founded in 2016, GSIL has established and is operating smart construction management systems for work sites affiliated with the Korea Rail Network Authority (Gangwon branch), Korea Midland Power, and Samsung Engineering. It is also preparing to enter the Middle Eastern market and has already signed an agent contract with a subsidiary of the Bayan National Construction Contracting Company, a general construction company that is based in Kuwait. GSIL is also currently involved in negotiations for the application of its safety system and/or collaborative endeavors related to the F1 circuit (Kuwait Motor Town) and a smart city in Kuwait, PEPCO in the USA, Long Son Petrochemical in Vietnam, and a power plant in Indonesia.
