CelcomDigi has hit a significant milestone in its network integration and modernization journey. Just a year into the three-year project, the company has already surpassed the 50% completion mark, with upgrades completed in Penang and ongoing across the nation. This rapid progress positions CelcomDigi as a frontrunner in building Malaysia’s second 5G network.
Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi, expressed the company’s commitment to building a robust 5G ecosystem. He highlighted that by the end of 2024, over two-thirds of CelcomDigi’s network will be modernized, making it the largest and most advanced digital network in the country. This achievement paves the way for a swift and efficient deployment of a standalone 5G network.
The foundation for this rapid progress lies in CelcomDigi’s extensive 4G network, covering 97% of populated areas. The company has modernized all network components, including RAN, core, and transport, to be 5G-ready. This strategic approach enables simultaneous 4G upgrades and 5G activation, optimizing resources and accelerating deployment.
CelcomDigi’s partnership with over 100 tower and state-backed companies has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. This strong ecosystem, coupled with the company’s efficient execution, has positioned CelcomDigi as a prime candidate for building Malaysia’s second 5G network.
Beyond network infrastructure, CelcomDigi is focused on driving 5G adoption. The company has launched a suite of 5G postpaid, prepaid, and home fibre plans, offering Malaysians access to high-speed internet. Additionally, the CelcomDigi AI Experience Centre (AiX) is at the forefront of 5G and AI innovation, with over 40 global tech partners collaborating on the development of new solutions.
To ensure an exceptional customer experience, CelcomDigi has established specialized teams known as Skuad 5G to conduct rigorous network testing and optimization. This dedication to quality has resulted in noticeable improvements in signal strength and network throughput, particularly in areas like Penang.
As CelcomDigi continues to advance its network modernization efforts, the company aims to deliver an unparalleled network experience to its customers while positioning Malaysia as a leader in 5G technology and innovation.
The Malaysian government recently announced the Pakej Rahmah Prabayar Siswa initiative, aiming to address affordability concerns regarding mobile data plans for students. This program specifically targets students enrolled in public universities (IPTA) and public skills training institutes (ILKA).
Pakej Rahmah Prabayar Siswa focuses on providing cost-effective prepaid mobile data plans. The program sets a maximum price of RM30 for these plans, making them significantly cheaper compared to standard options. This ensures students can stay connected without straining their budgets.
The program guarantees a minimum data allotment of 30GB, catering to online learning needs. Students can download study materials, participate in online lectures and tutorials, and stay connected with classmates and family throughout the semester. Some participating telecommunication companies (telcos) might even offer additional data within the same 180-day validity period.
Program Launch and Availability
The Pakej Rahmah Prabayar Siswa initiative is scheduled to commence on August 16th, 2024. Students will have the option to choose from plans offered by various telcos including CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile, and Yes 5G.
While specific details regarding the registration process haven’t been released yet, it’s expected that subscriptions will be available through the respective telco websites or their physical stores. Students will likely need to provide valid student identification to verify their enrollment at an IPTA or ILKA institution.
CelcomDigi is not slowing down. After announcing its new prepaid and postpaid plans, the telco is now revamping CelcomDigi Hub in Subang Jaya’s Hi-tech Park. The new revamp will help showcase how it is empowering different technologies with its integrated solution including 5G.
CelcomDigi Hub has long been one of the company’s best showcases for its technologies. Even before the merger, the Hub served as a showcase for Digi Telecommunications. Now, CelcomDigi is not only bringing its new identity to the building but also bringing it into the future to showcase 5G and AI technologies with its AI Experience Center (AiX). In the heart of the Hub, CelcomDigi is using an interactive system to showcase its 5G and AI applications in The Infinity. This immersive, interactive experience brings you on a tour guided by the CEO of CelcomDigi himself, Datuk Idham Nawawi. The Infinity seems like an apt name for the tour as the possibilities with AI and 5G are limitless (until we get 6G).
The tour at The Infinity is only the beginning. CelcomDigi continues to showcase the many use cases of 5G in The Gallery. Here, you’ll be able to see things like remote medical diagnoses, immersive augmented reality medical education and even robotics. The Gallery gives visitors a truly tangible experience with some of the many applications that they are showcasing. Many of these use cases are already deployed in the real world.
CelcomDigi’s AiX isn’t just a stagnant display. The company will be refreshing the experience regularly to showcase the latest it has to offer. The AiX will also serve as a collaboration space where CelcomDigi, its partners and interested parties are able to collaborate and innovate to leverage AI technologies and 5G. The space is equipped with a cutting-edge live lab environment that will allow interested parties to test and collaborate. In addition, guests at the AiX will also be hosted by AI-RA, the first AI digital human. AI-RA will be giving visitors a rundown of all the innovations that will be featured in AiX. Together with AI-RA, the new AiX will also be populated by a fleet of AI robotics that cater to the different needs of the AiX and its visitors.
CEO, Datuk Idham Nawawi noted, “Emerging technologies such as AI are revolutionising the world, and Malaysia must keep pace with this progress to build a flourishing digital nation. Over 1.5 years ago, we made a strong commitment to play a pivotal role to realise this ambition, leveraging our greater combined capabilities as a merged company to invest and drive digitalisation, innovation and sustainable growth for the nation. The AI Experience Centre is a realisation of the national benefit of the merger, where CelcomDigi’s scale and capabilities are able to attract and partner with global and regional digital tech giants to accelerate the development of cutting-edge digital solutions – positioning us as a strong ally to the nation’s digital aspirations.”
The CelcomDigi AiX was built on over 40 partnerships with industry leaders such as Huawei, AWS and DNB. A concept that will underpin the innovation and interactions that will take place within its walls. It will be open to visitors on a scheduled basis.
CelcomDigi is shaking things up with a unique approach to retail store design. In a first for Malaysia, CelcomDigi is inviting customers to co-create the interior design of their upcoming CelcomDigi stores, promising a more engaging and customer-centric experience.
Starting today and running until June 3rd, 2024, customers can participate in the “Design the New CelcomDigi Store” campaign. This online initiative, accessible through the CelcomDigi website, allows customers to submit their ideas on how to enhance the look and feel of the stores, ultimately shaping the overall in-store experience. Participants can also share their design ideas on social media using the hashtag #CelcomDigiStoreDesign. Who knows, you might see your vision come to life in the new stores!
This customer-centric design initiative is part of CelcomDigi’s year-long retail transformation program. The program aims to deliver the best possible experience for customers navigating the ever-evolving digital landscape. This transformation includes consolidating the existing network of Celcom Bluecubes and Digi Stores into a unified CelcomDigi brand. These new stores will act as a one-stop shop for all things connectivity, offering the latest products and services to meet a wide range of customer needs.
“Our recent integration of retail touchpoints has allowed us to seamlessly serve both Celcom and Digi customers,” said CelcomDigi’s Chief Sales & Retail Officer, Cheng Weng Hong. “This retail transformation takes things a step further, solidifying our retail footprint with a unified brand identity. A single store will allow us to better cater to the ever-growing connectivity needs of our customers.”
Cheng further elaborated on the gamified approach to design, stating, “By involving customers through this interactive campaign, we’re making them a part of CelcomDigi’s transformation journey. The online game will provide valuable insights and inspiration for the ideal interior layout, ensuring a comfortable and efficient experience for customers from the moment they step through the door.”
Throughout the retail transformation period, CelcomDigi is committed to ensuring minimal disruption for customers. They guarantee continued support and reliable service experiences. During any store closures for renovation, customers will be directed to the nearest operational store. In some locations, temporary CelcomDigi pop-up stores will be established to ensure service continuity. Additionally, customers can always leverage the convenience of self-serve transactions through the Celcom Life or MyDigi apps.
Stay tuned for further details on the retail transformation program and updates on participating stores in the coming weeks.
Malaysian mobile users who value customization and control over their data plans will soon bid farewell to a familiar brand. Yoodo, the popular digital telco known for its unique approach to mobile services, has announced it will cease operations on August 29th, 2024.
Yoodo’s departure marks a significant change in the Malaysian telecommunications landscape. Launched in 2018, the brand carved a niche for itself by offering users complete control over building their mobile plans. Users could choose their desired data allocation, voice minutes, and SMS bundles, tailoring their plans to their specific needs. This level of customization resonated with a tech-savvy demographic seeking to avoid the often-restrictive nature of traditional mobile contracts.
The reasons behind Yoodo’s discontinuation stem from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) requirements following the merger of Celcom and Digi. As a subsidiary of Celcom, Yoodo was required to be divested within 18 months of the merger’s completion to address concerns about reduced competition in the market.
Existing Yoodo customers can breathe a sigh of relief. Yoodo assures users that their current data, voice, and SMS services will continue uninterrupted on the CelcomDigi network until further notice. Furthermore, customers will have the option to port their numbers to another mobile operator of their choice. Yoodo will provide further details and support during the transition period leading up to August 29th.
The discontinuation of Yoodo raises questions about the future of customizable mobile plans in Malaysia. While CelcomDigi has not announced specific plans regarding Yoodo’s user base or the potential for similar customizable options within their existing offerings, it’s a situation worth monitoring.
CelcomDigi is really upping the ante when it comes to owning devices with an RM0 upfront payment. The Telco is looking to make electronic vehicle (EV) ownership even easier with a CelcomDigi postpaid subscription. In partnership with Yinson GreenTech, the Telco will be making ownership of an e-bike as easy as owning a smartphone with its Easy360 instalment plans. The partnership will see RydeEV’s electric bikes become an option for subscribers with their postpaid plans for as low as RM299.
The new initiative lowers the cost of ownership of EVs tremendously. It comes as a result of a partnership between CelcomDigi’s Innovation Center and Yinson GreenTech. Under this plan, customers will be able to own either rydeEV’s Ryder or Hyper e-bike models with CelcomDigi’s Postpaid for RM299 and RM430 a month respectively. This will be in addition to the Postpaid subscription which starts at RM70. After a contract period of 36 months, customers will have the option of owning the bike for a further RM1 payment.
In addition to the subscription plan, customers who qualify for the Electric Motorcycle Use Promotion Scheme (MARiiCas) from the government will receive a further RM2,400 rebate on their e-bike purchases. This will be remitted as a monthly RM200 rebate over a period of 12 months. This means that you’ll be able to own an e-bike for as low as RM169 a month for the first year. Early birds will also get a limited edition helmet.
Both the Ryder and Hyper e-bikes from RydeEV have a riding range of 70-75km on a full charge at 45km/h speeds. However, they differ in their top speeds; the Ryder caps out at 65km/h while the Hyper caps at 90km/h. The Ryder is only available in red while the Hyper is available in three colours: red, blue and orange. If you run out of power, you won’t need to plug in as you can simply swap the battery out at a charging station. According to Yinson GreenTech, there are over 60 stations available in the Klang Valley area with more to come in the coming months.
Celcom and Digi are now ready to be a unified telco with streamlined plans and a unified brand. Hot off the announcement of the company’s new brand image and colours, CelcomDigi is now unveiling a whole new approach to its converged connectivity services.
Of course, being a mobile network operator, the new plans announced are focused on mobile connectivity. CelcomDigi’s revamped approach to mobile network connectivity is no longer just limited by data usage quotas, instead, the new plans are also differentiated by the connection speed being made available. Starting at speeds of 100Mbps, the plans offer 4G and 5G connectivity at a more affordable rate than before.
All New CelcomDigi PostPaid Plans
CelcomDigi’s new offerings come in five different tiers for mobile-only connectivity. The lowest tier, Postpaid 5G 80 which is priced at RM80, offers 90GB of data quota at the “Essential” 5G tier which offers a capped 100Mbps speed. The step-up, Postpaid 5G 100 is priced at RM100 and offers 150GB of data at an “Advance” connection speed capped at 300Mbps. Both of these plans allow users to hotspot from their phones within their respective data cap.
Above these two tiers, 4G and 5G connectivity is not capped by a data usage quota. Instead, the Postpaid 120, 140 and 160 are mainly limited by their data connection speeds and hotspot quota. The Postpaid 120 shares the same Advance 5G speeds as the Postpaid 5G 100 plan with a limit of 20GB for hotspot/tethering. The Postpaid 5G 140 and Postpaid 5G 160 offer higher speed connectivity at a “Premium” speed of 500Mbps. These plans have a limit of 100GB and 300GB for tethering and hotspot.
Together with these Postpaid plans, CelcomDigi is also introducing a converged plan which gives users mobile connectivity on 4G and 5G as well as Fibre internet. This plan, Postpaid 5G 260, comes bundled together with Fibre Internet at 300Mbps. It’s also the only unlimited plan being offered by CelcomDigi with its revamped plans. Both 5G speeds and data usage are unlimited on this package.
Supplementary Plans starting at RM30
In addition to these features, each of the new Postpaid offerings also supports up to 6 supplementary plans from RM30 a month. CelcomDigi is introducing tiers to its supplementary lines as well. The new supplementary plans are catered for family or gadgets. These two groups come with two tiers each.
The Family line is priced at RM40. This plan shares the same features as the Postpaid 5G 80 with 90GB of data and Essential connectivity speeds. On the other hand, the Family Plus is priced at RM50. The Plus plan shares the same features as the Postpaid 5G 120 with unlimited speed and Advance connectivity speeds. The Family Plus plan is only available with a principal line with a minimum of the Postpaid 5G 120.
The Gadget SIM plan comes with 30GB of data with Essential speeds at RM30 while the Gadget SIM Plus comes with 300GB of data at Advance speeds for RM50. Both the Plus plans are also able to take advantage of CelcomDigi’s Easy360 for device ownership.
Easier Device Ownership with Easy360 and Pakej MegaJimat
CelcomDigi also introduced two new ways for subscribers to own the latest devices and gadgets. The Easy360 plan is available to all Postpaid 5G subscribers including those on the Family Plus and Gadget SIM Plus. This plan allows subscribers to own flagship devices with no upfront payment. The device will be financed for up to 36 months for a monthly instalment with 0% interest.
Pakej MegaJimat allows users to own midrange and entry-level devices for free with the Postpaid 80 plan.
Additional Perks to Sign Up
For a limited time, CelcomDigi is offering an RM10 rebate on the price of its new offerings. In addition to this, pre-existing Celcom and Digi subscribers could also be eligible for a lifetime rebate of RM50 on their monthly bill with the new plans. You will need to check your “Box of Surprise” or “Just4Me” on your Digi and Celcom apps respectively.
CelcomDigi is offering an RM10 rebate for the first six months to those porting into the network. For a limited time, the company is also offering free fibre internet at 300Mbps for the first 6 months. Signing up for CelcomDigi’s Postpaid 5G 260 will get you an even larger rebate of RM30 for 24 months.
The new packages from CelcomDigi go live on December 1, 2023. You can go to Digi stores, Celcom Bluecubes, or CelcomDigi’s official website for more information.
CelcomDigi has made a significant move in the home fibre broadband market with its revised pricing and promotional offers, taking a cue from TM’s recent pricing adjustments. Here’s everything you need to know about their updated plans.
Effective October 13, 2023, CelcomDigi’s home fibre broadband plans are now more affordable, catering to both new and existing customers. Here’s a quick breakdown of the revised prices from the ISP:
Discounts for Existing Postpaid Users
For existing postpaid users, your postpaid rebates will also be updated to match the new rebate values. While the discounts may be slightly lower than before, your final bill remains lower than the new retail prices, ensuring continued affordability.
If you’re already using CelcomDigi’s fibre service, here’s the good news: your monthly bill will automatically adjust to the new standard fibre pricing starting in November 2023. This means that current subscribers will enjoy the new, lower monthly prices without needing to renew or extend their contracts.

CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and Time dotCom (Time) have announced a strategic partnership aimed at broadening home fibre broadband choices across Malaysia. In this collaboration, CelcomDigi will utilize Time’s fibre broadband infrastructure to extend home fibre services to more Malaysians, with a particular focus on residents of condominiums and apartments.
This partnership promises numerous advantages for CelcomDigi subscribers, including high-speed broadband connections of up to 1Gbps. Time’s symmetric downlink and uplink speeds ensure high upload rates. Furthermore, the collaboration streamlines fibre installation, making it a faster and more cost-efficient process. These efforts align with Malaysia’s digital ambitions.
Albern Murty, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of CelcomDigi, expressed excitement about the partnership’s potential. He sees it as a crucial step to expand connectivity, providing Malaysians with consistent and seamless internet experiences at home and beyond. He also hinted at more initiatives arising from this collaboration that will further benefit Malaysians.
Datuk Zainal Amanshah, Executive Director of Time, highlighted their commitment to delivering high-speed internet to as many Malaysians as possible. They’ve made their gig-speed network accessible to internet service providers for some time and are pleased to support CelcomDigi in delivering fast and reliable internet connectivity.
This collaboration represents another step in Malaysia’s efforts to enhance internet accessibility and affordability. In the past, Digi, before its merger with Celcom, had entered into similar agreements with Time to expand its fibre footprint. Additionally, Digi expanded its reach by signing agreements with TM’s HSBB network and TNB’s Allo.
While CelcomDigi and its competitors, TM and Maxis, have begun revising their fibre pricing, this partnership signifies a significant move towards bridging the digital divide and improving internet accessibility for all Malaysians.
