  • RAW Recording: Record uncompressed video footage, offering maximum flexibility for colour grading and post-production adjustments.
  • Advanced Exposure Controls: Gain granular control over exposure with features like focus peaking, zebra stripes, and false colour monitoring.
  • Multiple Frame Rates: Choose from a variety of frame rates to achieve the desired visual effect, from smooth slow-motion to high-speed action sequences.

These additions further elevate the app’s capabilities, providing users with greater creative control and streamlined workflows.

Microsoft’s Copilot Comes to Telegram

Microsoft’s Copilot, the AI assistant gaining popularity on Windows devices, is spreading its wings. It’s now available on Telegram, a popular messaging app, offering features that go beyond simply chatting with a bot. While this expansion brings convenience, it also raises questions about user privacy in an increasingly interconnected digital world.

Screenshot 2024 06 02 at 14 41 13 Copilot for Telegram Microsoft Copilot

Telegram users can now leverage Copilot’s capabilities directly within the app. This AI companion, powered by GPT technology and Bing search, offers a variety of features:

  • Information Retrieval: Need answers on the fly? Ask Copilot anything from travel tips to sports updates, and it will retrieve information using Bing search.
  • Conversational Partner: Feeling social? Engage in casual conversation with Copilot. It can handle open-ended questions and provide engaging responses.
  • Recommendation Engine: Stuck in a decision rut? Let Copilot be your guide. It can recommend movies, restaurants, and activities based on your interests.

Accessing Copilot on Telegram is simple. Just search for “@CopilotOfficialBot” within the app and start interacting. Currently in beta, the service is free for all Telegram users on desktop, mobile devices, and the web version.

While Copilot’s convenience is undeniable, its growing presence across platforms raises privacy concerns. Microsoft assures users that their interactions with Copilot occur directly within Telegram, keeping data secure. However, Copilot, like any search engine, relies on publicly available information on the web. This raises the question of how much data users are comfortable sharing in exchange for convenience.

The integration of Copilot into Telegram represents a step forward in AI-powered communication tools. However, it also highlights the ongoing conversation surrounding user privacy in the age of AI assistants. As AI technology continues to evolve and permeate various platforms, it will be interesting to see how companies like Microsoft address privacy concerns while offering users the benefits of these intelligent companions.

Bye Bye Comixology…

It’s a sad day for Comixology App users. Starting from 4th December, the comic centric app will officially be out of business. However, it seems like the app will live on as part of Amazon’s Kindle App. Any live or exclusive comic, manga, graphic comics or novels can only be accessed through the Kindle App moving forward.

While it may be upsetting to users, it’s something that was bound to happen. Amazon acquired Comixology nearly ten years ago, in 2014, but barely made any changes to it. That changed recently in early 2022 when they shut down the browser version of the app, forcing users to use the Kindle App or Amazon’s browser-based readers. This made Comixology very inaccessible to long time users who read their subscriptions primarily on the browser.

Ahead of the December 4th deadline, users are advised to download any books they are presently reading from Comixology into the Kindle app. According to Amazon, users can seamlessly switch from one ongoing comic series to another by having their reading progress in Comixology automatically sync with their Kindle.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Comixology announced the merging of both apps. They also mentioned that with the merging, certain familiar features will contiue to be available on the Kindle App. Users will also be able to continue to have a separated library for their graphic novels, comics and mangas within the Kindle App.

Users moving over to the Kindle App will be able to find their comic and manga collection with ease with the “Comics & Manga” filter in the library. Issues, volumes, and omnibuses will be grouped according to series. Additionally, users have the option to hide and unhide individual books. Books that have been hidden in the Comixology app will remain hidden in the Kindle as well.

As of now, the Comixology Unlimited subscriptions are not affected by the merging. Even the comic book buying process via Amazon’s Comixology shop remain unchanged.

WhatsApp Doubles Down on Security With Secret Code, Chat Lock and Email Verification

WhatsApp has introduced email verification and Chat Lock, which provides users with an additional layer of authentication and security. The app is also doubling down on security with a new Secret Code feature.

With Email Verification, users can link their WhatsApp accounts to an email address. This is an alternative to the usual SMS verification that could be more useful for users in areas where reception and connectivity is compromised.

In addition to Email verification, WhatsApp is also introducing two features to enhance privacy on the app: Chat Lock and Secret Code. Chat locks work by being able to set aside chats in a specialised folder in WhatsApp that is only accessible through fingerprint or face ID ensuring only the user can securely stow them away from prying eyes.

With Secret Code, users can place passcodes on locked chats to add that secure layer to the conversation. Users can also hide the Locked chat folders from the home page, which can only be accessed with the passcode users had placed when typing in the search bar.

As with all new features, users must first update WhatsApp to the latest version. After updating, users can go to the Your Profile tab, pick the Account option, and tap on Email Address to connect their account to an email address. The email address is required for authentication and is kept private. Currently, Chat Lock and Email Verification features are live and available publicly in the App. Meanwhile, the Secret Code is in the process of rolling out and will soon be available globally.

These updates come in the wake of WhatsApp and Google both sharing an update that would end the large backups that Android users are able to have. In the update, both Google and WhatsApp iterate that back ups will now count towards user’s 15GB quota of storage across Google services. This would mean that if your back up is larger than 15GB you would need to look into subscribing for larger storage capacities from Google. The plans start at $1.99 per month for 100 GB or $9.99 per month for 2 TB.

New Features Coming to WhatsApp Soon Including an iPad App & Self-Destructing Voice Notes

WhatsApp is continually evolving with many new features being added to the popular messaging app. Last year, the team behind WhatsApp introduced features that let users migrate their data between Android and iOS. Just recently, users were able to use the same account on more than one device. Now, WhatsApp is adding a feature that a lot of people have asked for the ability to use more than one account on the same device and a new iPad version of the app.

Screenshot 2023 10 24 143111

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently teased that soon, users will be able to use more than one WhatsApp account on the same Android phone. This function has been in the works and has been in testing since August 2023. This is good news for people who have more than one number and use WhatsApp. The feature will soon be available on Android devices but it’s uncertain if it will be making its way to iOS.

In addition to that update, WhatsApp is adding a few more usability tweaks. The first is a new menu that allows users to switch between voice and video messages. The added step is meant to prevent users from switching between modes by mistake. In WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.22.5, you can get this new tool. Currently, this function is only available for Beta users but will be rolled out soon publicly.

whatsapp self destructing audio messages

WhatsApp is also introducing a feature that will allow users to send voice messages that self-destruct. Just like the “View Once” tool for pictures and videos, this function lets audio messages delete themselves after the recipient opens them. With this feature, users will not be able to record or download the audio notes that disappear after a certain amount of time. Like the previous update, the function is only available on the Beta version of testing at the moment.

It looks like WhatsApp is finally coming to the iPad. The iPad app was initially teased by Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp at Meta, last year. It looks like it’s coming really soon. The app is optimized for iPad devices and looks nearly identical to the desktop version. As of now it’s only in the beta stage of testing and many features are not fully functional. There is also no sign or indication of when it will be released to general users.

WA AVATAR CALLING FEATURE PRESENTATION ANDROID

Besides that, WhatsApp may also be bringing its take on memojis soon. In the WhatsApp beta for Android (V2.23.19.14), users are able to create and use their personalized avatars in video calls making it more fun and interactive for users. Finally, in the latest update for WhatsApp beta for Android,  V2.23.19.16, group calls have been expanded to allow up to 31 participants at a time.

While these features are compelling, it’s worth noting that all of them remain in Beta with no clear timeline for when they will make it to the app itself. Do stay tuned as we keep a lookout for the features to hit the official release.

Apple Vision Pro Will Seamlessly Integrate iPhone & iPad Apps

Apple‘s upcoming mixed-reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro. The upcoming headset is set to blur the lines between the virtual and real worlds, and Apple is taking steps to ensure that users have a multitude of apps at their fingertips from day one.

Apple WWCD23 Vision Pro VisionOS 230605

The Vision Pro is set to launch with its own OS dubbed visionOS and it’s set to face an uphill climb when it comes to apps. It looks like Apple is looking to tackle this challenge head-on. The company has announced that iPhone and iPad apps will seamlessly integrate into the visionOS App Store. This means that users will have access to their favourite apps and games, creating a more connected, productive, and entertaining experience.

Developers, in particular, will appreciate Apple’s approach. The company is streamlining the process by ensuring that most iPad and iPhone apps can run on visionOS without any modifications. This decision eliminates the need for developers to rework their existing apps for the new platform.

According to Apple, “By default, your iPad and/or iPhone apps will be published automatically on the App Store on Apple Vision Pro. Most frameworks available in iPadOS and iOS are also included in visionOS, which means nearly all iPad and iPhone apps can run on visionOS, unmodified.”

While the automatic integration of existing apps is a significant advantage, Apple is also empowering developers to take things further. The visionOS Software Development Toolkit (SDK) provides developers with the tools they need to optimize their apps for the Vision Pro headset. This includes adding elements such as 3D content designed for eye and hand input, creating a more natural and immersive user experience.

The company plans to release a developer beta version of visionOS in the fall. This beta will include the App Store, ensuring that developers can test their apps on the platform well in advance of its official launch.

Users can expect to explore their favourite iPad and iPhone apps side by side with new visionOS apps on the expansive canvas of the Apple Vision Pro. The headset is slated for release early next year, making it a highly anticipated addition to Apple’s product lineup.

Apple’s decision to seamlessly integrate iPhone and iPad apps into the Apple Vision Pro ecosystem is a strategic move that potentially simplifies the user experience and streamlines development. It’s a step towards ensuring that the new platform has a rich library of apps from the get-go which ultimately benefits users and developers alike. As we await the Vision Pro’s official launch, it’s clear that Apple is committed to ensuring that it leaves a mark while trying to redefine the mixed reality experience.

You Can Soon Delete Your User Data from an App Thanks to Google

Data privacy and security is a big topic. It is also something Apple and Google, the world’s largest tech firms, have been working on for a long time. Over time, Google and Apple have both separately introduce new measures and policies for their developers to improve on security and giving more privacy access to their users. In their latest policy update, Google might make things easier for you if you wish to opt out or finally delete an app you no longer want to use.

As of yesterday, Google has introduced a few key initiatives for their Google Play store for 2023 and beyond. In their latest blog update, they are looking to achieve a few things with their initiative an policy update. Ads is still a big thing for Google, but they are looking to soften ads served to users. You are not getting any less ads, but Google seems to limit the amount of data that you share with apps and therefore shared across ad algorithms.

Google is also introducing a new Play Integrity API that is supposed to better protect their developers and the IP that comes with the apps. Alongside the enhanced API, Google is also introducing Google Play SDK Index so that developers have better overview over their SDK uses. In all this, they also look to balance the experience for developers and users by ensuring that there are better policies in place to ensure that data collection is done as responsibly as possible. At the same time, they want to make Google Play even safer for children and families, all through the updated policy.

Source: Google

The biggest emphasis, at least according to another blog update, is allowing more data control for its users. It is not just about accessing and viewing more data than ever. While that is also a part of an improved transparency over users’ data, the policy update requires developers to allow their users to have even more control and deliberation with their own data on their selected platforms. It is also more than just allowing you to choose which data or hardware that the app gets access to.

Modern apps requires us to hold a virtual account with the provider’s platform to use. Even if you are using a Google account to sign into different apps, the platform technically creates another account for you just for their platform. If you wish to create a separate account, you can too via the apps. What most apps does not allow you to do though is to reverse that process. That is about to change.

In Google’s latest policy for developers, developers are going to be required to enable in-app account deletion or at least initiate the account deletion process via their apps. Google also requires the developer to allow the app deletion process and initiation to be done completely online too so that users do not have to reinstall an app just to delete their account. Since the account deletion process can be done completely via your app, you also do not have to access two different devices to delete your user data off their platforms.

image1
Source: Google

With the policy as well, Google states that any account deletion must also be accompanied with a complete deletion of a user’s data from their database. In that case, users also get an option to either keep or delete their data from a developer’s database when their delete their accounts. There are going to be cases where developers might require data retention for security, fraud prevention, or regulatory compliance. In that case, the developer must clearly state that they will have hold your data for whatever reason they cite.

Google is looking to enforce their policy starting December 2023. They are allowing for extensions for developers up until May 2024. That also means that you can expect all your apps to include your account deletion feature from 2024 onward. Of course, this policy will not just affect Android users with access to Google Play. This most likely will also translate to users of other platforms since the policy does affect most developers that are on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

FUJIFILM Launches INSTAX UP! Smartphone App, Because an INSTAX Camera Alone is Not Enough

The INSTAX cameras are a lot of fun. In any social gathering, the INSTAX camera and printer can capture great memories and you can physically keep the photos for these occasions and start a collection. There is only one issue, with most INSTAX cameras, there is no way for you to digitally store the photos. This is where INSTAX UP! app comes in.

It is not another camera app. You do not need another camera app on your smartphone, since most modern smartphones offer better than ever camera experiences today. But it still does rely on using your smartphone’s camera.

Instead of capturing the regular things like portrait or objects in street photography, it captures your INSTAX print outs. It can even recognize the type of print you are using including mini, SQUARE, and WIDE films. To ensure that the digital copy is free of all sorts of blemish, the app automatically reduces glare on the photos in challenging conditions. You can even adjust the contrast, brightness, and even colour vividness and temperature after capturing the photos. All that is then stored in your smartphone digitally so that you can reprint the image using an INSTAX printer if you want.

There are more you can do with your INSTAX photos now with the INSTAX UP! app. There is a new ‘photo in photo’ mode. You can take the print and put it against a backdrop of a scenery or other photos to be shared across social media directly from the app itself. You can even compile your favourite photos within the app. While compiling your collection, you can shake the app to mimic the INSTAX films being tossed around in a box. You can even share this collection with your friends directly from the app.

The app even allows you to choose how you want to view your INSTAX photos. You can keep it neat and organized in the ‘list view’ mode. Or, if you do not mind a little bit of chaos, there is the ‘box view’ mode that makes it look like you tossed your INSTAX films all into a box. You can also find a few ‘tips and tricks’ from the app itself in taking photos and portraits that will look good on and INSTAX films or even how to spice up your home and room with INSTAX products.

The app is now available for free on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store. The app, as mentioned, is compatible with any INSTAX film and photos that has been printed. Again, it is not a camera app. You can find out more about the INSTAX UP! and other products from their website.
