Acer Unveils SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera for Immersive 3D Content Creation

Acer’s SpatialLabs ecosystem is growing with the introduction of the SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera. This camera allows photographers to capture and view stereoscopic 3D images, seamlessly integrating with Acer’s existing SpatialLabs devices, streaming platforms, and popular video calling applications. The SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera has also been recognized for its design, receiving the prestigious 2024 Red Dot and iF Design Awards.

The SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera boasts 8-megapixels in resolution per eye, enabling detailed capture of 3D subjects. The compact design and weatherproof exterior make it suitable for capturing everyday moments. A built-in selfie mirror allows users to frame their 3D selfies with ease.

For intuitive shooting, the camera offers auto and touch focus capabilities. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) minimizes camera shake, ensuring smooth and steady footage. More experienced photographers can leverage the manual mode to adjust ISO, white balance, and shutter speed settings for greater control over image output.

The SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera goes beyond capturing 3D photos and videos. It allows for real-time 3D streaming, enabling users to share their creations live on YouTube and other compatible platforms through the new Acer SpatialLabs Player 3.0.

An upcoming update in Q3 will introduce a SpatialLabs video call widget, facilitating high-resolution 3D video conferencing on applications like Teams (1080p), Zoom (720p), and Google Meet (1080p). Users can customize depth features during calls for added realism.

The captured 3D content can be displayed on various Acer devices, including SpatialLabs laptops, displays, VR/AR headsets, and 3D projectors. This ensures that the intended depth and richness of the 3D content are preserved during playback. A downloadable gallery feature allows users to revisit their 3D creations and relive their immersive experiences.

New Developer Tools Empower 3D Creation

Acer has also unveiled a suite of new developer tools to further empower 3D content creation. These tools, including SpatialLabs Unreal 5.3 and Unity 2021.3 LTS and 2022.3 LTS plug-ins, will be available to developers in June.

Additionally, Acer announced the launch of the SpatialLabs Model Viewer Pro application, designed specifically for SpatialLabs Pro devices. This application aims to enhance 3D content workflows and user experiences with features tailored for commercial environments.

The SpatialLabs Model Viewer Pro application supports major 3D file formats and offers enhanced glTF support. A new presentation mode allows developers to inspect, customize, and showcase a collection of models sequentially for review and customization without requiring project development from scratch.

Developers can add features like virtual turntables, custom logos and backgrounds, and personalized HDRI environments. This application presents a valuable solution for showcasing 3D installations in showrooms and professional presentations.

Pricing and Availability

The Acer SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera will be available in North America in Q3, starting at USD$549 (approx. RM2,584.40). The European, Middle East and Asian markets will see the launch in Q3 with a starting price of EUR 549 (approx. RM2,803.19).

[next@acer] The Acer ConceptD 7 now Comes with SpatialLabs for the 3D creators

Earlier this year, Acer brought the SpatialLabs concept into their ConceptD notebooks. They specifically brought the technology first in the form of the latest Acer ConceptD 5 Pro that was released earlier this in early June 2021. While in execution the technology may not be overly impressive, the technology itself is still interesting.

Let us attempt to explain to you what SpatialLabs is though. SpatialLabs is a 3D viewing technology. While most 3D implementation requires you to have special eye gear to view, SpatialLabs boasts a 3D technology without requiring an additional viewing gear. In concept, it sounds amazing, in practice, you are not going to see much unless you are the user.

On the ConceptD 5 Pro, SpatialLabs could be used by the users to visualise 3D characters, realise 3D models, all without using a 3D glasses, or 3D printing the items or their projects. You just need to sit in front of the PC, and you are good to go. Imagine the possibilities of this technology for designers, engineers, and even 3D artists. Imagine SpatialLabs in a larger, more powerful scale. That is the ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs Edition.

To start with, the Acer ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs Edition is a powerhouse. You get Intel’s 11th Generation Core i7 processor (up to) that is also paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU (up to). You get to spec it up to 64GB as well as a 2TB SSD storage to boot. The display is a looker as well with up to 4K UHD in resolution from a 15.6-inch IPS panel. The display even boasts up to 100% in Adobe RGB colour gamut coverage and hit up to Delta E<2 for the best colour accuracy your money can buy.

Of course, there is a webcam on the laptop. It is not just a plain webcam set up though. It is also an eye-tracker sensor that helps the SpatialLabs technology create shapes and objects based on where your eyes are.

The Acer ConceptD SpacialLabs Edition will be available in the EMEA region December 2021 onward. It will reach the North American market in 2022 only though. The ConceptD 7 with SpatialLabs technology will be sold from EU€ 3,599 (MYR 17,339*) onward. No specific news yet on when the device will hit Malaysian shores. More information on the acer SpatialLabs technology can be found on their website.
