Sony’s new cycle of having a new flagship every six months is still in motion. It started with the Xperia Z and continued with the Z2 and Z3.It looks like the cycle will carry on into 2015 with the upcoming Xperia Z4.
A major leak of the Xperia Z4 came in the wake of the hacking of Sony’s network. In the leak, we see a final render of the Xperia Z4. The render shows quite the unique naming convention. Instead of using the conventional Z2 esque naming, the render uses Xperia Z fourth generation. A naming convention becoming increasingly popular among manufacturers. In addition to this, the leak reveals that the Xperia Z4 will be marketed alongside the upcoming James Bond movie, Spectre, in November as well as another windows in May. Many are speculating that the May period will see the launch of the Z4.
The design language of the Xperia Z4 has taken a notably futuristic twist. The device also looks to be more curves along the edges and have a noticeable bend. In addition to the bend, Sony Mobile looks to be playing around with with a lock screen which changes colors along to match the bezels of the device. It looks like the Xperia Z4 may be also looking to jump on the metal device bandwagon. Leaked renders also show the another version of the device with a more glassy and angular take.
Also coming along for the ride was an updated clock widget which looks darn interesting to say the least. Sony looks to be riding the Lollipop express and bringing some really cool aesthetics to the device.
The Sony Xperia Z4 is apparently slated to be announced at CES in Las Vegas. It is slated to come with a 5.4-inch Quad HD Triluminos display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The Xperia Z4 is also expected to be coming with a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz with an expected 4GB of RAM with 64-bit support thanks to Android Lollipop. As per usual, the Z4 is slated to come with Sony’s signature 20.7-MegaPixel camera sension and 4.8-MegaPixel front facing camera with wide angle view. All of this will be powered by a 3420 mAh battery.
Sony also released a new teaser video to tease what’s coming up in CES in Las Vegas in a few weeks. The video teases the release announcements of the Z4 and other devices.
The leak also revealed a new wearable coming from Sony Mobile. The device looks to be a wristband similar to that of the Samsung Gear Fit. We aren’t too sure if the device itself is a fully functional watch but early speculation points to the device being a competitor for the Gear Fit and also the FitBit. What’s more, the design language looks to be geared to a younger, hipper crowd. This device is apparently also in negotiations for a placement deal with the James Bond Movie.
