Cameras have come a long way since its inception. This one device that captures imaginations and sweet memories all over the world also has gone through many changes and seen many variants of itself being innovated from all over the place. Sony is no stranger to this phenomenon of the evolution of cameras. They’ve introduced the world to the full-frame mirrorless prowess of the Alpha 7 series. They’ve brought mirrorless into the professional arena with the Alpha 9. Today they’ve gone and introduced a brand new format in portable photography and videography – the ultra-compact RX0.
The Sony RX0, what is it? To start with it is not an action camera, though it does look very similar to some other action cameras out there. It is, according to Sony Malaysia an ultra-compact camera. Supposedly also it is built to be able to hold itself in any sort of situations. It is suppposed to go to where no other cameras can go. The Sony RX0 is waterproofed, shockproofed, and crushproofed. It is a go anywhere camera.
Specs? The Sony RX0 packs a cool 15.3-megapixel Exmos RS CMOS sensor. Capturing on thr Exmos RS sensor is a ZEISS Tessar T* 24mm (equivalent to 35mm focal length, because cropped sensor) f/4 wide-angle lens. Stills can be shot at 16fps with this sensor at speeds up to 1/32000 second. It shoots video at up to 4K at S-Log2 for the best looking video possible. You can even shoot at 40x (up to 1000fps) slow motion with this ultra-compact camera. All this in a body that only weighs in at 110g in a 59mm x 40.5mm x 29.8mm body. To put it into perspective, it is no larger than a wedding ring box (any confusion occuring in any marriage proposals is not the responsibility of techENT and its staff members).
The Sony RX0 is designed to work in a multi-camera environment. Paired with the Sony FA-WRC1M radio commander users can simultaneously trigger and control up to 15 RX0 cameras. Do not have the budget for the radio commander? The Sony PlayMemories Mobile app can control up to five RX0 cameras at once.
The RX0 ultra-compact camera’s waterproofing allows it to go into depths up to 10 metres without protection. With the optional housing, it will go into depths of 100m. Its shockproofing protects it from damages whrb dropped from up to 2 metres of height. It will also stand up to 2000N of weight and force on it thanks to its crushproofing built.
Alongside the RX0 ultra-compact camera Sony also launched their Sony FDR-AX700 handycam camera that shoots up to 4K at up to 30fps. They also launched the RX10 mark IV DSLR camera with a fixed 24-600mm f/2.4-4 ZEISS Vario-Sonnar lens for super high quality 20-megapixel photos even at a distance.
The Sony RX0 ultra-compact camera is available for pre-order in Malaysia from today onward all the way to the end of the month (17th -31st October, 2017). It retails for MYR3,199 when it is available through any of Sony’s authorised resellers and Sony Concept Stores November, 2017 onward. Of course, as with any other Sony cameras there will be proprietary accessories available at the same time too. Photos after the break.
