Sony Launches the α7 Mark III (α7 III) for the Malaysian Market – Hands-On
A month ago Sony in CP+ (Camera and Photo Imaging Show) in Japan unveiled their brand new addition to their highly acclaimed Alpha series of high-end full frame mirrorless cameras, the α7 III. That was in Japan though, there was no mentions on when it was coming here. A month later; today actually, the highly anticipated high-end camera for enthusiasts is here.
Obviously we covered the launch in Japan, here. As expected from Sony the α7 III is built to the highest of standards with the usual weather proofing. It shares a similar chassis to the α7R III which we tested with for 24 hours, here. The only few differences on the α7 III and its α7R III sibling is the logo that is on the top right corner of the front of the camera and the amount of Megapixel that is packed underneath the skin.
The α7 III boasts 24.4-Megapixel within the full-frame sensor within its hull. That sensor is also capable of shooting 4K HDR footage out-of-the-box. That 4K footage though is not just any 4K resolution video – it is actually an oversampled 6K footage that is being output as a 4K in-body.
As mentioned before in our coverage for their Japan launch, the α7 III is capable of shooting continuously at 10fps to up to 177 JPEG images at one go (8fps in Live View mode). That is combined with the 5-axis in-body stabilisation to ensure you get shake-free and clear images. The ultra-fast 4D focus technology with 693-point autofocus system ensure you get all your photos in focus every time. There is even the brilliant eye AF system that serves the α7R III so well. The wide ISO range from 100 to 51200 (expandable to 204800) ensures that the camera is sensitive enough even under low-light conditions.
The Sony α7 III is available in Malaysia this month onward at Sony’s authorised retailers and resellers nationwide. The new full frame mirrorless camera retails at MYR8,999 for body only. There is also an option to get it with the SEL2870 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens with the α7 III bundled at MYR9,999 if you need a new Sony lens to begin with.
