Samsung has just announced that its latest enterprise security solution, the Knox 2.0 will be available first for its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, with other Galaxy devices expected to follow suit at later dates.
The Samsung Knox app serves as a security suite that enables you to separate your personal data and your work data while still allowing both to coexist on the same device. Released exclusively for Samsung devices on Android, the Knox essentially creates a clone of your phone within itself, allowing you to switch between personal and workplace data without having to reboot the phone. It also provides some security features to protect your data such as password encryption for the access of your Knox protected data and also protection against malware, viruses and hacking. The first version of Knox came free with the Galaxy Note 3 last year.
The Knox 2.0 was announced earlier in February detailing a few upgrades over its predecessor with the core platform and app container rebranded to Knox Workspace. The majority of the improvements revolved around enhancement of security through changes such as the addition of TrustZone Protected Certificate Management and Real-Time Protection. The app has also enhanced compatibility with Android apps from the Google Play Store as well as third party softwares. Another key feature is the inclusion of split-billing, which allows separate charging for personal or work apps. More components were added alongside the core platform and the app container which are the Knox EMM, Knox Marketplace and Knox Customization.
Samsung looks to become a key player in the enterprise device market as well apart from its current domination of the consumer market. More details about the Knox 2.0 can be read here on the official Samsung blog.
