Rumors have surfaced about Samsung planning the release of a 13-inch tablet some time next year.
It looks like Samsung is favoring larger screen sizes for its upcoming devices. The mobile giant has always increased screen sizes for both its flagship Galaxy S series and Note series with every annual iteration. Furthermore, they have just released the Galaxy W, perhaps its largest smartphone to date with its 7-inch display. So it is no surprise to see this screen size progression in its tablet series as well. At the moment, Samsung’s largest tablet is the Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, measuring 12.2-inches.
The rumored Samsung tablet is going to dwarf the Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 physically but there is no word on how they measure up in terms of specifications. So far, there is only mention of the possible use of an LCD panel for the display instead of the Super AMOLED, which is the display of choice for most of Samsung’s top of the range devices and even the Tab Pro 12.2. Of course this is just a rumor but it will be a questionable decision if Samsung decides to go with it. This new tablet is also expected to retain the current generation of tablet features including Multi Window multitasking and of course the signature S Pen.
Looking at the tablet market in general, we can also see a progression to larger screen sizes and rumors abound on 13-inch tablets from other competitors. Apple is currently rumored to be working on a 12.9-inch tablet and has put much faith in it to the point that it looks like they may stop its production of the 7-inch iPad Mini series. Microsoft is also competing in this new bracket of large tablets with its Surface Pro 3. It looks like 2015 will bring a new range of tablets if these rumored tablets are indeed true. This new category is expected to cater to professionals and are essentially tablet/laptop hybrid devices.
