We all know that Apple and Samsung are great rivals. We also know that behind the upfront rivalry, there’s a business partner relationship between them. It’s no big news. The same goes for LG as well. Samsung has well provided the silicon chips for their competing products, and now they’ve got more to provide for.
Now, Apple and LG has landed contracts that are worth a few billion US dollars with Samsung. The contract is for Samsung to supply both Apple and LG with RAM. Earlier on, rumors spread that Apple would like Samsung to build their next processor of A8 for their new iPhones. No words on this one yet, but Samsung will definitely provide DRAM memory for the new iPhones.
It was said the reason behind Apple working with Samsung was because they are able to build a vast amount of DRAM at one go without worrying the component shortages. Also, although Samsung and Apple is heads on in competition, Samsung remains the only one that can provide what Apple needs. The Korea Times reported that the same division that is providing DRAM for their latest Galaxy S6 will provide the same for LG’s G4 device. It is said that the LG G Flex 2 will also be using the same component.
The type of RAM wasn’t published or mentioned. However, with their recent announcement of their new DD4R RAM that is under the 20nm process, we assume that this is what’s selling for LG and Apple.
