A new patent from Samsung has surfaced. It seems that it might just be geared towards what the tech giant has in mind for it’s next smartwatch. Can it also be a direct competitor to the Apple Watch and its navigational crown?
It might just be. The patent document illustrates a round watch which is operated by a ring around its face. The filing was made last year. The description also displays another innovation on the methods of navigating oneself around using the watch. Users could also edit entries in their daily agenda via the slice display (as per the image above).
As with every patent, we might not see the idea ever come to be in a product. However, reports did say that Samsung is working on a round shaped smartwatch as an answer to the Moto 360. Going for a round design would be a first for the tech tycoon who has up until now, only opted for rectangular designs.
So far, we’ve only seen smartwatches being navigated either through touch or little knick knacks such as knobs. It’ll be interesting to see how the South Korean company translates this particular project from paper to a real watch.
