Samsung to pay US Govt for Lying
Samsung is set to give the American government a whopping $2.3 million according to the Washington Post. The South Korean company allegedly intentionally lied to federal agencies about the manufacturing location for a number of its gadgets.
The Department of Justice stated that there was no admission of liability by the tech tycoon. But, Samsung intentionally lied about where the products were made. This was discovered when Robert Simmons revealed the specifics of the gadgets to the Justice Department.
Under normal regulations, federal agencies must to buy products made in America or with countries that the country has a trade agreement with. When federal agencies purchased gadgets from Samsung, they believed that the products were manufactured in South Korea or Mexico which are covered by trade agreements. However, it was discovered that the Samsung products acquired were actually manufactured in China which does not have a full trade agreement with America. Hence, pay up Samsung!
