A report by MobileGeeks states that the USPTO has granted Samsung patents originally filed in March 2013. The patents illustrate round designs for what looks to be a smartwatch.
Is the South Korean tech giant looking to challenge Motorola’s very own Moto 360 smartwatch? Well, the company has already patented everything else in the smartwatch market from Android to Tizen to fitness trackers. So, it is no surprise that the next step is to explore a round interface for the anticipated latest Samsung smartwatch.
This would be a different approach to the Gear Live and it might be accepted with open arms. Let’s be honest, we need more round designed smartwatches. There’s been way too many square blocks in the market and much diversity would be welcomed.
In the Samsung patents documents, there are also descriptions of different features such as a gesture control system and charging ports directly on the watch. Whether this patent ever sees the light of day is still unconfirmed. But if it does, it looks to be out the Gear Live and G Watch flat!
Samsung patents seems to be looking to a direct competitor to the Moto 360 which is the crowd favourite at the moment. With the latest features in the documents, this device might just make the Samsung Gear Live something of the past.
