The South Korean tech giant is not planning on slowing down with its curves. The main flaw, although really catching, of the curved edges we see on the Galaxy S6 Edge and any curved edge phone is the lack of functionality. We’re paying a whole lot of cash for a cool physical aspect that sad to admit it, but we don’t use much.
Samsung may however, have a solution in the works for just that problem. According to reports, a new patent has been filed by the company on the 6th of July with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent involves a feature called Apps Edge which is an app that allows for quick and easy access for apps using curved edges. For the long term, the patent would give Samsung the upper hand in the market of curved edged smartphones. It might just breathe a much needed breath of life into the longevity of this line of smartphones and other gadgets.
The Apps Edge is “for use in organizing and allowing quick access to frequently used applications.”
With this patent in hand, it’s quite probable that Samsung will be able to garner more support from developers who have yet to show that much excitement in developing apps for the curved edged smartphone. The Apps Edge along with the APIs Samsung intends to give out to developers might be the exact combo to kick start the comeback for this company.
