Samsung Galaxy S3 KitKat Arrives – UNOFFICIALLY!
After last week’s news broke about the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S3 mini not being updated officially by Samsung to Android KitKat due to RAM restrictions, a few developers over at XDA-Developers decided to port a TouchWiz laden KitKat ROM over from the Note II. However, the Samsung Galaxy S3 KitKat update is finally here – unofficially.
As mentioned previously, the developers on XDA-Developers suspect that the RAM issue on the S3 and the S3 mini are not hardware related but rather related to the insane amount of junk placed in the company’s android version.
The port comes thanks to developers JustArchi and Kryten2K35 who have take the time to actually port over the KitKat ROM from the Note II. That being said, the ROM is still in early alpha stages of development and are known to have issues and bugs which will undoubtedly be resolved in time, as is always on the forums. Take note that in order to use the ROM you will have to root your device and flash it using a custom recovery. If you’re not that comfortable with the idea, we suggest you stick to the official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM available via Over The Air (OTA) update or by plugging your phone into Kies.
