The Samsung J-Series has become the company’s streamlined offering for the budget and entry level market when it comes to smartphones. With the initial introduction of the J1, J2, J3, J5 and J7, the company streamlined what was a very confusing portfolio of devices. Having recently expanded the J series with the J5 and J7 Pro, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro now enters the market.
The J Pro series has always been a series with slightly higher specc’ed entry level devices which cater to those that want better performance at an entry level price point. This philosophy carries on with the Galaxy J2 Pro.
The Galaxy J2 Pro runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425; which is a quad core (4-core) processor with a processing speed of 1.4GHz. It also has an Adreno 308 graphics processing unit. This is supported by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. However, if you need more space, the J2 Pro supports the use of a microSD card for up to 256GB of additional memory.
The Galaxy J2 Pro has a 5.0-inch Super AMOLED screen. The display has a 540×960 pixel resolution. This means that it isn’t a HD 720p. That said, the screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of about 220 pixels per inch (ppi).
When it comes to the cameras, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro comes with an 8-megapixel main camera. This camera has an f/2.2 aperture and is capable of autofocus. It also has an LED flash. This camera is also capable of geo-tagging, touch focusm face detection, high dynamic range (HDR) photography and also panorama photography. It can also shoot Full HD, 1080p video at 30 frames per second (fps). On the front facing, selfie camera, however, the J2 Pro comes with a 5-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and also has an LED flash.
Meanwhile, when it comes to connectivity, the Galaxy J2 Pro supports 4G LTE connectivity in addition to GSM and HSPA. In addition, it supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2. Also supported is GPS connectivity on the A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS networks. It has support for FM Radio as well. Also onboard are proximity and accelerometer sensors.
All of these features are supported by a 2600mAh battery. Samsung claims that the battery will give you 18 hours talk time on a 3G network with up to 60 hours of music playback time.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro will be available beginning 6th April 2018 for RM499 (USD$128.93). It will be available in Blue Silver, Pink, Black and Gold.
