Samsung has been a real tease when it comes to their big foldable smartphone. After spending what seems like an eternity in the rumour mill, it’s finally here. At their Unpacked event in San Fransisco, the Galaxy Fold finally made its official appearance. But, it’s going to cost a pretty penny at USD$1,980.
That said, Samsung isn’t hiding the fact that the Galaxy Fold is a a premium, luxury device. In fact, they mentioned it point blank. That aside, the Galaxy Fold is looking to be a really beautiful device with an impressive 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display which unfolds like a book. The Galaxy Fold takes Samsung’s mantra of creating meaningful breakthroughs by addressing the issue of the fundamentally limited size of the smartphone screen by creating a form factor which is defying the smartphone category. The Galaxy Fold is technically the true “Phablet”. It transitions from a powerful smartphone into a premium tablet seamlessly.

The battery of the Galaxy Fold consists of two individual battery packs which are identified as a single power source thanks to special, proprietary technology from Samsung. The total capacity is 4,380mAh.
The Galaxy Fold has a unique hinge which consists of multiple interlocking gears. The inner workings of the hinge are elegantly hidden behind a customizable shell.
The hinge is also the center of the Galaxy Fold’s new App Continuity function which allows apps to seamlessly transition between the 4.6-inch screen on front of the phone to the larger 7.3-inch tablet display which unfolds.
The larger display also brings even more multitasking with 3 app multitasking which allows users to use three applications simultaneously thanks to the extra real estate on the screen. To make consuming your media even better on the Galaxy Fold, the phablet comes with AKG tuned sound.
