Samsung’s move to bring more offerings to the market for the Era of Live. If you’ve been following the company, you’d be familiar with that tagline; The new focus of their Galaxy A Series. Since last year, the focus of the Galaxy A series has changed to one more centered on the camera experience. This year, the company has taken a sharp focus on the way we interact with the increasing popularity of “Live” content.
Even with their announcement of the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A30 in Malaysia and the Galaxy A70 earlier this month, the company has been actively looking into bringing a more affordable option to their users. But while they said farewell to the Galaxy J Series, the Galaxy A series has now become their bridge between the affordability and cutting edge technology.
We can hear you at the back saying that the Galaxy S is where it’s at when it comes to innovation, but the Galaxy A80 proves otherwise. Continuing their trend of showing off the latest camera technology in their Galaxy A flagship, Samsung has introduced their first ever rotating camera on a smartphone. The new approach to the camera introduces a raising portion of the phone and a rotating camera housed. So hit the selfie toggle and you’ll see the phone magically rotate the camera.
The new Galaxy A80 equipped with a 48-megapixel main camera is built to focus on users who are focused on sharing their life Live. The Galaxy A80 comes with a single rotating camera module which houses a triple camera setup with a 48-megapixel main sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor with 123° viewing angle and a time of flight (TOF) 3D depth sensor. According to the company, the new approach to the camera allows users to get the same experience whether they’re taking a selfie or a normal picture; eliminating the need to sacrifice on quality when taking a selfie. The new 3D depth sensor allows for better Bokeh or portrait pictures while the ultrawide angle lens allows users to capture what they see. The camera also comes with a super steady mode which we’re certain vloggers will enjoy to the fullest.
The display on the Galaxy A80 is the New Infinity Display. What’s so new? Well, there’s no notch for starters; but the screen stretches from edge to edge covering nearly 100% of the face of the smartphone. The Full HD+ resolution of the 6.7-inch, Super AMOLED panel makes colours pop and immerses you in the content you’re consuming. That paired with the Dolby Atmos allows you to get lost in your content. Of course, the Dolby Atmos feature is available only if you have earphones in or with Bluetooth Speakers.
Having a battery which can last you all day is also important. The Galaxy A80’s intelligent battery learns your usage habits and optimises the device or better battery saving to get you through the day. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the Galaxy A80 comes with a larger 3,700mAh battery with 25W Super Fast Charging.
The A80 will be running on the Octacore (8-core) Qualcomm Snapdragon 730. The new 8nm technology in the processor allows the processor to be more power efficient without sacrificing the performance. This is paired with the Adreno 618 for graphics and 8GB of RAM. The A80 is also one of the first devices from Samsung this generation to not support microSD card expansion but it does come with 128GB of internal memory. While it may be a little bit of a let down, the A80 does come with an in-display fingerprint sensor and has NFC for Samsung Pay and other e-payment services.
