The smartphone market is being filled with competition as of late with OEMs, big or small striving for some share in the success of the industry. Samsung has been a forerunner in the race by making an impact with its flagships such Galaxy Note 3 and even the Galaxy Tab line was quite impressive. Nevertheless, the South Korean tech giant has been falling from grace by losing market share to rivals popping out from everywhere especially China.
Samsung is trying to keep its foothold with a bendable smartphone being launched next year and it might be re-evaluating its strategy by releasing less smartphones. One thing is for sure, it’s not too happy with the Apple of Asia, Xiaomi. Xiaomi is gunning for the number one spot in China and it might actually succeed in doing so sooner than later by releasing quality product for affordable prices.
Senior Vice President and Head of IR for Samsung Electronics, Robert Yi stated that : “Xiaomi is a mysterious entity. I don’t know where they create profit.” However, he did admit that “They have created a good user experience that caters for the needs of Chinese consumers,” Nevertheless according to Yi, Xiaomi’s plans might not work outside its home country, China.
Samsung might be on the defensive since Xiaomi is planning on penetrating India in the near future. Either way, at the rate things are going, there is going to be more the Xiaomi to worry about for the tech tycoon. It’s going to havr to quickly come up with a way to hold on to whatever part of the consumer market it has left before other rivals pop up.
