In recent events, Samsung has plan on making their mobile strategy more effective. With Samsung’s WatchON closing down on 31st December, another service from Samsung is shutting down too. Samsung’s famous built-in messaging app; Samsung ChatON is not making their hit with consumers and in coming months the messaging app will be closed down. According to a report from The Korea Times, Samsung will be removing their ChatON service from certain markets around the world. But the statement was denied by Samsung, “The rumors concerning ChatON have been false, as ChatON will continue to be offered to consumers worldwide.”
But after denying the reports, Samsung has announced that it is going away; ChatON will be shutting down by end of January 2015. Korea’s Yonhap News said that, “Under changes in the services operation policy, ChatON will be closed.”The move came in line with efforts to meet the changing demands in the market and provide differentiated services to users, focusing on other areas such as health and mobile commerce.”
Samsung blamed the changing market as competitors of the messaging world such as WhatsApp with over 500 million strong users and WeChat with 600 million users outrun ChatON’s 100 million users. ChatON users will be able to re-download their chat records, photos and videos that they had shared before the messaging service shuts down. But good news for users in the United States, ChatON will shut down everywhere in the world except for the US. “ChatON will be discontinued in all markets except the United States, as we strive to meet evolving consumer needs by focusing on our core services. We remain committed to offering services that cater to our consumers’ lifestyles and add value to their everyday lives.”
So to those who uses ChatON, what does this do to you? What do you think about the product shutting down end of January next year? Let us know.
