Ahead of the much anticipated releases of wearable devices of its competition, Samsung has been crowned king of the hill for Smart watches with a whooping 500, 000 units which it has sold in just the first three months of 2014 which is 50% of the amount that it shipped in 2013, not taking into account the number of units of its latest wearable devices, the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit. The huge amount of sales of the fledgling market allows Samsung to account for 71% of the total, global market for smartwatches.
The lead in the market is attributed to the company’s marketing prowess and also it’s pre-emptive release of its wearable devices across the globe even in emerging markets while competitors such as the Kreyos and FitBit are scarce in these markets. Another factor is also the limited number of manufacturers in the market at the moment, the only other notable manufacturer is Sony.
We’ll have to wait and see if Samsung continues its domination after manufacturers such as Motorola and LG enter the market later this year.
