Courtesy of the Verge, it has been confirmed that Microsoft will be letting go of the name “Nokia” and replacing it with “Microsoft Lumia”. Social media accounts linked to Nokia France will be the first to change and other services associated with Nokia will soon follow.
The name Windows Phone will also see the end of days with its new name Windows 10 starting next year. All devices from tablets to desktops to handset will use Windows 10 in a variety of form factors.
This doesn’t mean Nokia is gone with the wind. The Finnish tech company will continue to exist without the mobile division. Nokia is still working on different projects including an app version of HERE Maps for Android and iOS. Nokia has also released its very own Android launcher recently and has announced that it will be focusing on network infrastructure as well.
The one piece of news we do want is when will the rebranding take full effect? All the latest devices announced recently including those at IFA 2014 last month will be shipped on the same Nokia Lumia branding as before.
